Our beloved Papa peacefully went to God on Saturday, September 25, 2004 with his family at his side. He was 73. A true cowboy, he was born and raised in Meeker, Colorado, where he could be found at any of the local rodeos calf roping, team roping, and riding saddle broncs. A tradition that he greatly passed on to his two daughters, Jodi and Susan Cotten, and his only grandchild Stephanie Shada-Miller. After high school he was proud to have served in the United States Navy for four years and was honorably discharged. Upon his return from the Navy, he went back to Meeker where he met the one and only love of his life, Joanne Pilkington at a 4th of July rodeo in 1954. Up until the time of his passing he still lovingly referred to her as, "my bride," as she still refers to him as, "my cowboy." They were married on October 24, 1954 and would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this October. All who knew him knew how much he loved CU football, but still he attended Colorado State University where he became a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1960. He practiced in Grand Junction and Boulder working on large and small animals before opening Aspen Arbor Animal Hospital in Westminster, Colorado. Bailey and Joanne retired to Mesa, Arizona, where he took up golf, but being the hard worker he was he continued to work as a vet even after retirement. He loved to barbeque, he cooked every holiday meal, and always handed out the presents on Christmas morning. But mostly enjoyed taking annual vacations to Hawaii with his family. Above all he loved and took care of his family; a day never went by that he didn't show his family how much he loved them. Never was there a family that was so loved by one man. We were so proud and so blessed to have had him as a husband, a dad, and a papa. Memorials may be made to Christ Aid, Ahadi Kids (pairs needy children in Uganda with sponsors), P.O. Box 101193, Denver, Colorado, 80250. |
