PART 1: LESSON

Description: Macintosh HD:Applications:Microsoft Office 2011:Office:Media:Clipart: Household.localized:LS009382.png

WHEN LEARNING TO tell time, it is important to know these vocabulary words:

1.             second – there are sixty seconds in each minute.

2.           Minute – sixty seconds make up one minute of time.

3.           Hour – sixty minutes make up one hour of time.  24 hours make up one day.

4.           A.m. – the time period each day from midnight (12:00 A.m.) to 11:59 A.M.

5.           P.m. – the time period each day from noon (12:00 p.m.) to 11:59 p.m.

Please look at the clock above:

you should see the numbers 1 through 12, those numbers show each hour of the day for both a.m. and p.m.

you should see 60 smaller lines on the inside of the numbers, each line is for one minute.

To show what time it is, the clock has two hands, one small and one large.

The small hand shows you what hour it is and the large hand shows you what minute it is during that hour.

The clock above shows the time of 6:03 since the small hand is past the 6 and the large hand is between the 3rd small line and 4th small line after the large 12.

Part 2: home activity

Find a clock in your house that looks like the one above.  5 times during one day, check the clock to see what time it is.  Each time you check the clock, draw a picture of the clock to show where each of the hands are and write the time next to it.  You can bring the paper to class to find out how many times you are correct!
