Parts for X-wing chest box hose and suit connector

Parts in the kit

1/2" street elbow, 1/2" threaded insert, 18" grey hose, and 2 metal washers

Hose
I use a washing machine drain hose, Which is what I beleive was used on the film used version as well. I've seen at least 3 different versions used on the film used costumes, but they all look good. These can be found at ACE hardware, as well as Lowes and Home Depot. I've also seen it at Walmart at times. Package price varies from $7 to $15, but you get enough for 2 to 3 costumes, depending on the manufacturer. This is usually connected to the orange flight suit with a black elbow fitting and a black disk. Although other time the end of the hose is just stuffed into a pocket or under the white bib.

Suit connector
The black connectors can be found in the plumbing or garden area. They are used in sprinkler systems. The threaded insert is cut from a "cut off riser".  The other part is a 1/2" street elbow, that means it has female threads on one end, as well as the male threaded end. I have no idea what "street" this refers to! The metal washers are reduction washers used in elctrical work. For attaching a smaller conduit to a larger hole in a box.
I glue the male threaded section of the riser to one of the washers. First with some CA glue, and then some GOOP as well. Be sure not to foul the treads with glue! I then paint the other washer satin black to match the elbow. When treaded togather the two washer well clam the material of the flight suit between them. My flight suit is of sufficiently light weight that I didn't need to cut a hole for the treaded section to feed through, but yours may vary. The elbow is then threaded into the hose. On some brands of hose the fit is a bit loose, so you may need to wrap the male threads of the elbow in black tape, or permanently glue the elbow in place with GOOP.

Cut a hole for the hose before painting. I used a quater, drawing a circle around the outside. Test fit and adjust so that the hose is a tight fit. I use a flat tool grey for my box and middle switch. All of the detail parts shown are from the chest box detail kit.
