Vacuum formed parts for X-wing chest box

Rough trimmed parts for chest box

X-wing chest box parts. The box is vacuum formed from .125" black high impact styrene. The are 2 strips of .25" sentra (foamed PVC) that are used as structural support and to help adhere the back plate. The back plate is .125 styrene.

Assembly of Chest Box

The sentra strips are glued to the internal side walls of the box, using regular model cement.

The back plate is next glued  in place. Run some cement along the exposed edge of the sentra strips, and drop the back plate
place. Run additional cement along the top and bottom edges of the back plate.

Place a weight on the back plate to h old it flat while glue dries. I use a CD jewlcase and a convenient paper weight. Let sit for several hours to achieve maximum strength. After cement has cured, score the excess plastic with a sharp knife and snap off. Use a file and/or sandpaper to desired effect.

Cut a hole for the hose before painting. I used a quater , drawing a circle around the outside. Test fit and adjust so that the hose is a tight fit. I use a flat tool grey for my box and middle switch. All of the detail parts shown are from the chest box detail kit.
