Curve Sketching: Hyperbolae

The graph of xy = c or y = c/x where c is a constant, is said to be a hyperbola or, more accurately, a rectangular hyperbola.



Notice that there is no point on the curve at x = 0: here we have a vertical asymptote. Also, the x-axis, y = 0, is a horizontal asymptote.


The hyperbolae sketched above have c ranging in value from -4 to +4.
