Elementary Statistics
Getting Started
Welcome to Elementary Statistics. This is a Virtual College of Texas (VCT) course. You can enroll for 3 hours credit (Math 1342) or 4 hours credit (Math 1442). Both courses will be taught simultaneously and will follow the same schedule. However, students in Math 1442 will complete 5 additional assignments. Some programs require the 3 hour course while others require the 4 hour course, so check your specific degree requirements.
Textbook
Thirteen chapters in the Triola text will be covered. The average length of a chapter is 57 pages. Some chapters are shorter (for example, Chapter 1) while others are much longer. To keep up, students will need to cover 10-15 pages per day.
To obtain a textbook:
Students can call and order the textbook from the Western Texas College Bookstore (915-573-8511, ext. 230)
OR
Order the text from one of the on-line book sellers such as http://www.amazon.com or www.barnesandnoble.com
Access code
To take the quizzes, the student must have a CourseCompass access code. If a new textbook was purchased, then the access code MAY have been bundled with the book. If a used textbook was purchased, then an access code will need to be purchased.
If you do not have an access code, here are the instructions for obtaining one:
1. go to http://www.students.pearsoned.com
2. click on REGISTER
3. click PURCHASE ON LINE ACCESS (the link is at the bottom of the page}
4. type in the CourseCompass ID # (I will send it to you in an email)
5. then CREATE USERNAME and PASSWORD
6. enter your CREDIT CARD information
