Evaluation: Grades
Course grades will be determine by the following:
After each chapter, there will be a chapter quiz. Each chapter quiz will consist of 15 questions and each question will have a weight of 3 points. (13 chapters X 15 questions/chapter X 3 points/question = 585 points)
Towards the middle of the semester, a midterm exam will be administered. It will consist of 30 questions (two 15 question quizzes) and each question will have a weight of 3 points for a total of 90 points.
The cummulative final exam will consist of 45 questions (three 15 question quizzes) and each question will have a weight of 3 points for a total of 135 points. (br>
Assignments will be given on a regular basis. These assignments will involve various activities such as class discussion and/or Internet reading. Students in Math 1342 will complete 5 assignments and students in Math 142 will complete an additional 5 assignments (for a total of 10 assignments). Each of these assignments will have a value of 20 points (total of 100 points for Math 1342 and 200 points for Math 1442).
Additionally, each student will begin the course with 30 points in the ADJUSTMENT category. When students are not able to take a quiz before the due date, points will be deducted from this category. Up to 10 points per day can be deducted. The CourseCompass quizzes are structured in a way that doesn't allow points to be deducted from individual quizzes without destroying the answers given on the individual questions. Students may want to refer back to previous quizzes when taking the midterm or final exam - so, this ADJUSTMENT category will be used to make these adjustments as necessary. There are other situations that may arise where the instructor needs to add or subtract points - this category is set up for that purpose.
In summary, the total number of possible points is:
585 - Chapter tests
90 - Midterm
135 - Final
100 or 200 - Assignments
30 - Adjustment
The maximum number of points for students in 1342 is 940 and the maximum number of points for students in 1442 is 1040.
To earn an "A", the student must earn 89.5% of the maximum number of points or 841 for Math 1342 students and 930 for Math 1442 students. Similarly, 79.5% need to be earned for a "B", 69.5% for a "C and 59.5% for a "D".
