KARSH KALE
"21st century trance workouts, inspired by drum and bass grooves.
Welcome to drummers heaven." - Billboard
"Kale…artfully brings together these two sides on Realize - fusing
harmoniums and tablas with dub loops, samples, and big rock beats to
achieve a sound that transcends Indian classical traditions and Western
dance floors." - Tom Pryor, CDNOW!
"Intricate
and otherworldly." - BPM
"A pioneer who mines beats, melodies and his over active mind, Kale
strikes the motherlode with music that is entirely his own." - JALOUSE
Karsh Kale is a busy man. Since the release of 2001's classic Realize,
his musical mission has taken him on a non-stop global voyage, playing
alongside and working with some of the world's top artists, including
Sting, Zakir Hussain, Bill Laswell, Ustad Sultan Khan, Pharoah Sanders,
Baaba Maal, Herbie Hancock, and Craig David. That's a pretty impressive
list by one of today's most prolific performers.
Classically educated in tabla, schooled in drums and a fiend for electronics,
Kale has infused these worlds so well separation seems impossible. Realize
borrowed elements of classical South Asian music, western rock, and
global electronica, mixing them in one seamless blend, segueing the
world of our ancestors to the lives of our children, all the while offering
us the opportunity to dance along.
Kale's
tabla electronics serve as the heartbeat of today. His work as drummer
in Tabla Beat Science (alongside Zakir Hussain, Sultan Khan, and Laswell)
earned their recent double-live disc, Live in San Francisco at Stern
Grove, a spot on Billboard's World Music Charts.
