Synopsis
In Mayberry on a manhunt, the state police perceive Andy and Barney to be incompetent and reject their offer to help. However, when Andy captures the convict by providing him with a means of escape--a leaky rowboat--Andy proves his common sense superior to the big-city methods of the state police.
Notes
This is the only episode in which Barney's mother appears. Her only line is "But Barney, I'm your mother!"
Barney's one-bullet trademark is introduced in this episode.
For their work on this episode, writers Jack Elinson and Charles Stewart won the Writer's Guild of America award, for best writing in a comedy or variety series.
