NEXT MEETING

The September 16, 1993 meeting will feature the new WordPerfect SIX.0
for DOS as well as a brief overview and comparison of the popular word
processors for windows. Come and bring a friend. The meeting will be in the
Oasis Room and will start at 7:30 PM.

NEW PROGRAMS

The shareware authors have been active. Please note these excellent
programs are now on the Hiram's Oasis. GCATWP30.ZIP, a graphic cataloging
program that prints 28 graphics on a page with the name under each. It is an
upgrade that reads the new WP6.0 Graphics, which incidentally are NOT
readable in ver.5.1 nor with Graphic Workshop program. VIEW84.ZIP reads
WP6.0 files as well as earlier versions and some other brands of formatted
word processing files. Hiram's Oasis also has the files from PC Magazine from
1990. SHORTS01.ZIP, SHORTS, and 1LINERS are excellent resource sources for
those who write trestleboards or newsletters. a sample of the 1LINERS is
included at the end of this newsletter

VISITS ON TRIP

This spring, your SYSOP had the pleasure of visiting and joining the
Southern California Lodge of Research in Anaheim. There I met many brethren
that use the CIS forum. I also visited a lodge in Sacramento where I saw two
brothers Raised. Since my travels took place during late spring, early
sumnmer, I was unable to visit many lodges because they were dark. If you, or
your Lodge are not members of SCRL and would like to join, send $15 to: Mr.
Ralph Herbold, Box 6587, Buena Park, CA, 90622. Lodges that are members,
upon request, will receive a copy of Allen Roberts' The Craft and Its
Symbols for each of it's new Entered Apprentice Masons.

NEEDED: Assistant SYSOP

We are looking for assistants to help with running Hiram's Oasis with
the long term goal of one of these assuming full responsibility for the
board. The qualifications for the job are the availability of free time, an
interest in computers and the board, interest in the fraternity and a desire
to learn. We are also requesting our members to contribute articles for this
newsletter. After six years of putting together a newsletter with articles
which I hope have been of help , I have gone stale. I also plan to spend more
time travelling and I do not feel it is fair to the members to pull the plug
when I am away. It would be nice if a Northern Virginian Shriner were
interested in becoming an assistant. All suggestions are welcomed.

COMPUSERVE INFORMATION SYSTEM

The messages on the CIS GO MASONRY forum are becoming more
interesting. Brothers from the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Australia and
other foreign countries are contributing tidbits concerning the activities of
their lodges. They, as well as our North American Masons are learning and
sharing ideas on methods of improving their Lodges. If possible, you should
become a CIS user. The basic fee is $8.95/mo. For a free 30 day trial or more
information, call 1-800- 848-8990 (voice). As a result of the Fraternalism on
the forum, a number of brothers from other countries will be Attending the
California Grand Lodge Session in September and plan to demonstrate the CIS
forum at the session.

COMPUTER CLUBS

For those in the Washington DC area, Membership in the Capital area
PC Users Group with headquarters in Rockville, MD is highly recommemded. The
annual dues is $35 which includes a subscription to their excellent
publication The Monitor. There are classes in the majority of computer
specialitys. Most of the classes are held at their office in Rockville.
There is also a new Northern Virginia meeting in Reston. Another good club is
the TCUG that meets in Carlin Springs, Arlington featuring demonstrations and
tutorials of software. They too, have a good monthly magazine. Both have
bulletin boards limited to their members. We will have sample Magazines at
the meeting. SHORTS "We would often be ashamed of our finest actions if the
