THE MASTER'S MESSAGE

Brethren,

This month we will be taking some time off, but here is
something to think about.

FELLOWSHIP: WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

If you look at the dozen or so definitions of the word
"fellowship" in a good dictionary, you will find about half of them
border on what we mean when we speak of Masonic Fellowship. We
already know those definitions and they are to thin; too sketchy.

Fellowship is charity in action. Charity means brotherly
love; not the giving of money or material things, but the giving of
yourself--your time Friends helping friends.

FELLOWSHIP DEFINED IN RITUAL

The definition of fellowship is found in our ritual. We are
taught in the first degree that "to relieve the distressed is a
duty incumbent on all mankind, but particularly on Masons."
Distress can take many forms. It may be a physical or emotional
hurting. "To soothe the unhappy, to sympathize with their
misfortunes, to compassionate their miseries and" perhaps most
importantly, "to restore peace to their troubled minds is the great
aim we have in view."

This is fellowship. The Lodge--not the building, not the lodge
room, but the body of members--should be a safe place to find the
advice, the council, or perhaps just the attentive ear that a
brother needs in his time of trouble.

Relief is the exercise of brotherly love in its highest form.
This is the practice of the instructions we were given when we were
raised to the Degree of Master Mason. Recall the Five Points of
Fellowship to instruct you and give you direction in your dealings
with your fellow-man.

Fraternally
Daniel P. McLaran
Worshipful Master

FROM THE SOUTH

A funny thing happened to me on the way to the Cabaret on the
evening of June 23rd!

There were 47 paid and present patrons. People working in the
kitchen, those serving, the musicians and others brought the total
into the neighborhood of 60 people. Past-Master Willis was our
chef, and the food was superb. We boast about our Organist -- the
Ernie Hughes Trio played for our listening and dancing pleasure,
and no better trio can be found in San Diego. Thanks to Bro Dick
Johnson, we also had television exposure on Channel 17.

My records indicate that Poinsettia Chapter O.E.S. bought 31
tickets. Oceanside Lodge members bought 16 tickets, and of those,
Lodge officers bought six. SW Ernie Powell was at work; however,
he did donate $40. An open bar brought in additional donations of
$50. A small number of people could not come, but purchased the
tickets as a donation. These folks should feel good about
themselves.

Frankly, Brethren, we've heard all the excuses -- can't come,
previous engagement, going out of town, can't drive, can't dance.
We know that you go to so-called `good' restaurants. We also know
that you pay from $15 up to $30 for a meal. With cocktails? Who
knows. There was a 3-month notice regarding Cabaret Night, with
monies going to the Building Fund.  This is NOT ABOUT DANCING;
this is about supporting your LODGE. Yes! Supporting your Lodge!

On August 25th, we will be having a Western Party. Come in
Western attire or not; however, do come. Tickets and an envelope
are included in the Trestleboard for you to return payment for your
ticket, or to make a donation if you truly cannot attend. This is
another opportunity for you to enjoy good food, good fellowship,
and to support your Lodge.

Fraternally,
Geza M. Sebestyen
Junior Warden

FROM THE SECRETARY'S TABLE

Many of you have seen the playpen and baby things in the Lodge
Office and know that I am spending the summer months taking care of
my grandson. I am in the Lodge Office most of each weekday
afternoon playing with him, doing Lodge work, feeding him, doing
more Lodge work, changing him, and doing a little more Lodge work.
I will continue to spend weekday afternoons in the Lodge Office
until school starts in September. If you would like to stop by and
conduct lodge business, please do.

As always, you can leave a message on the answering machine,
and I will return your call when I am in the office. Also remember
that you will not need to listen to all of the information about
the Lodge on my out-going message. Just press the STAR (*) button
on your phone after the message has started. It will beep and
start recording your message for me.

For those of you who are into computers and have modem
capability, the Oceanside Trestleboard is posted on Hiram's Valley
Bulletin Board. Hiram's Valley's SYSOP is Brother David Stites.
It is operated under authority of the Southern California Research
Lodge, and is located in El Cajon at (619) 562-0137. This is a
"Wildcat Bulletin Board" and our trestleboard is in AREA 18 -
ELECTRONIC TRESTLEBOARD. The file is called OSIDE_xx.ZIP (xx being
the month, 08 is August), and is an ASCII file which has been
condensed using PKZIP. I usually post it 2-3 days before the
trestleboard goes in the mail, so find out what is going on before
everyone else.

Fraternally,
Roy L. Youngblood, PM
Lodge Secretary

MASONIC INFORMATION PROGRAM

Monday, July 31st, at 6:00 pm, is the time to bring a
relative, friend, neighbor, or co-worker to the Lodge to introduce
him to what Freemasonry is all about. Worshipful Brother Robert
Winterton of the Grand Lodge Speakers' Panel will talk about our
Fraternity at about 7:00 pm, following the dinner.

Remember, the dinner will be complimentary for a male non-
Mason and his lady; you and your lady will be asked to make a
$5.00 donation for the dinners. Please call the Lodge Office at
722-9363 to make your reservations.

50 and 25 YEAR PIN PRESENTATIONS

At our August Stated Meeting, Brother Walter Solley will be
presented his 50 Year Golden Veterans' Award. Several other
Brethren have reached that milestone of 25 years as a Master Mason
and have been invited to receive their 25 Year Pin. The
presentations will take place following the dinner and prior to the
opening of Lodge, so that non-Masonic friends and family can
attend. Please be present and congratulate our Brethren.
