OUTLINE OF THE RISE AND PROGRESS OF FREEMASONRY IN LOUISIANA
BY JAMES B. SCOT
INTRODUCTION AND INDEX FOR
THE 1995 REPRINT BY
 ALAIN BERNHEIM

This facsimile reproduction of the 1873 edition (1st edition) is the granddaddy
of modern Louisiana Masonic history books. Written, in part, as a rebuttal to
Robert Folger and the various writings of James Foulhouze, Scot traces Louisi-
ana Masonry from the organization of Perfect Union and Etoile Polaire Lodges
until approximately 1870. Bitingly hostile remarks towards James Foulhouze
(many taken from the works of Albert Pike) show the highly emotional cli-
mate of Louisiana Masonry in the mid to late 1800's. While Scot sometimes
allowed his emotions to get the best of him (slanting his objectivity), this long out
of print work gives many valuable bits of information concerning the devel-
opment of all branches of Louisiana Masonry.
The introduction and index for the 1995 edition is written by noted Masonic
historian Alain Bernheim. Brother Bernheim is twice winner of the AQC Norman
B. Spencer Prize and has authored numerous Masonic books and articles
world wide. The Introduction contains never before published information
concerning the Grand Consistory of Louisiana and the SC Southern Jurisdiction
based on recently discovered documents. This work has been computer
enlarged for an easier reading text. It is a must for all students of Louisiana and
Scottish Rite Masonry. 8 1/2 x 11
Paperback ISBN 1-887560-00-9

HISTORY OF FREEMASONRY IN LOUISIANA
BY EDWIN F. GAYLE, P.G.M.
INTRODUCTION AND INDEX
BY MICHAEL R. POLL

Louisiana Past Grand Master Edwin F. Gayle published this history of
Louisiana Masonry in 1932. This extremely rare work, while not as in-depth as
Scot's history, gives a general presentation & objective look at the often
controversial chronicle of Louisiana Masonry. This work is important for a
complete understanding, not only of the history of Louisiana Masonry, but also of
the factors that made up the various paths that Masonry in Louisiana took
during the 1800's & early 1900's. Revised Paperback ISBN 1-887560-08-4

ITEM # 104
1886 BULLETIN OF THE SUPREME COUNCIL OF FRANCE CONCERNING
JOSEPH CERNEAU
INTRODUCTION AND INDEX
BY MICHAEL R. POLL
Few individuals incited more emotion in the American Scottish Rite than
Joseph Cerneau. The creation of Cerneau's Supreme Council resulted in a long
and bitter battle to define and establish Scottish Rite regularity in the U.S. Albert
Pike devoted a considerable amount of time and effort in his battle to crush the
Cerneau movement, still active many years after Cerneau's death.
The Supreme Council of France issued this bulletin (reprinted by Pike) in 1886
to examine the claims that Cerneau possessed the 33* of the Ancient and
Accepted Scottish Rite. A review of Cerneau's personal and Masonic history is
presented along with a careful examination of the records available to the
Supreme Council of France concerning Cerneau's alleged possession of the
33*. This facsimile reproduction is a valuable work for any student of American
Scottish Rite. 8 1/2 x 11 Revised Paperback. ISBN 1-887560-13-0

ITEM #105
SPECULATIVE FREEMASONRY:
A HISTORICAL LECTURE UPON THE ORGIN OF CRAFT AND HIGH
GRADE FREEMASONRY
BY JOHN YARKER
INTRODUCTION BY
MICHAEL R. POLL

John Yarker (1833-1913) was a Mason who's work was either respected or
ridiculed by other Masonic writers depending on their viewpoint. Often
controversial, Yarker sought to connect Masonry (either directly or
philosophically) to the old Mystery schools. With an appreciation for the mystical
side of Masonry, he often delved into the deeper and esoteric quarries of our
Fraternity.
This 1883 lecture presented before the Sovereign Sanctuary of the Ancient and
Primitive Rite of Masonry in and for the United Kingdom of Great Britain and
Ireland traces Masonry from it's early days to the various Bodies of High
Degree Masonry around the world. A most interesting work by a gifted Mason.
8 1/2 x 11 Paperback. ISBN 1-887560-
32-7

MASONIC ADDRESS OF THE
LOUISIANA GRAND LODGE -- 1849
BY JOHN GEDGE, G.M.
bound with this work:
SKETCH OF THE EVENTS RESULTING IN THE 1850 UNION OF
THE GRAND LODGE OF LOUISIANA WITH THE LOUISIANA GRAND LODGE
& THE 1855 UNION OF THE SUPREME COUNCILS OF NEW ORLEANS AND
CHARLESTON
BY MICHAEL R. POLL

In 1847 the history of Louisiana Masonry would change forever. The Grand
Lodge of Louisiana was declared irregular by the Grand Lodge of Mississippi
and a second Grand Lodge, the Louisiana Grand Lodge, would soon be formed
in Louisiana. The Louisiana Grand Lodge would be declared clandestine by the
Grand Lodge of Louisiana and would be recognized by only one other Grand
Lodge -- the Grand Lodge of Mississippi. Despite the irregular organization of
the Louisiana Grand Lodge, it began to grow powerful and by 1850 a union
between the Grand Lodge of Louisiana and the Louisiana Grand Lodge took
place. John Gedge, Grand Master of the clandestine Louisiana Grand Lodge in
1849, would be elected Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Louisiana in 1851.
This 1849 address before the Louisiana Grand Lodge made by Gedge gives
some insight into the workings, philosophy and a few of the problems relating to
the formation of this Grand Lodge. A highly informative work that should be
considered required reading for any student of Louisiana Masonry.
The SKETCH by Michael Poll provides the reader with an understanding of the
events leading up to the two most signifiant events in the history of Louisiana
Masonry. 8 1/2 x 11 Paperback. ISBN 1-887560-19-X
