                               Sharing a
                             greater love

Brother Boettjer, you are to be commended, as Managing Editor
of The Scottish Rite Journal, for writing and publishing such a
tremendous story ("No Greater Love" June 1990) on the untimely
death of Brother Robert Read who, after offering himself as a hostage to
protect others, was killed during a robbery attempt.
It is well that the Steak & Ale Corporation has set up a fund on behalf
of the widow and children of this fine young man.
Your article set my mind to thinking, and I am reasonably sure there
are thousands of my Scottish Rite Brothers in the Southern Jurisdiction
who are similar to me.
I am nearly 77 years old, a retired business executive, in good health,
with a fine family. My wife and I have shared 52 happy years of
marriage, and we have no financial worries.
How great it would be if 999 more Scottish Rite Masons would send
a minimum check of $50 to the Bob Read Memorial Fund, Steak & Ale
Restaurant Corporation, 1204 Park Central Drive, Dallas, Texas 75251.
Certainly, to support such a deserving family comes under being a
good Mason.
                                                          Fraternally,
                                                  Daniel S. Grief, 32
                              Memphis, Tennessee, Scottish Rite Bodies
