If the road to God is Love, then God must be Love. That is
exactly what the Holy Books of all religions teach. But, what use
can we make of this knowledge in our daily lives? Is it practical?
Will it solve problems today? How can we learn the meaning and
power of love--what it is and what it is not and how love can
govern and direct our lives? This is the way of love for love
suffers long and is kind.
To be easily hurt is not the spirit of love. Love accepts and
forgives.
To envy is not the spirit of love. Love loves not itself and
is not proud.
To belittle others is not the spirit of love. Love builds and
heals and is not selfish.
To think evil, be critical and condemn do not fulfill the
spirit of love. Love rejects iniquity, injustice, unrighteousness
and rejoices in the truth.
To be filled with self-pity and fear is not the spirit of
love, for love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all
things, endures all things.
Faith, Hope, Love--these three abide with us--but the greatest
of these is Love. Relighting the lights is the rebirth or a
reawakening; a re-recognition of love, the divine nature within us
all.
Francis of Assisi, Albert Schweitzer of Lambarene, Toyohiko
Kagawa of Kobe, Mohatma Gandhi of India and Jesus of Nazareth--why
did these great souls of different times and areas acquire their
places in history? One thing runs through all their lives--they
gave of their love to all humanity. They loved the poor, the
diseased, the disabled, the displaced, the dregs of society, the
unlovely, the unlovable. Each in his own way used that same
divinity which is also in all of us a channel for God's Love and
Grace. Each of us is possessed of the potentiality of becoming a
doer of Love's work.
Faith is not passive; it is active. It brings forth into
reality the good that is envisioned. Faith builds on faith.
Affirmative thinking produces positive results. How else would a
tiny mustard seed grow into a bush, 10 to 12 feet high? So-called
evil is but a lack of good. What power is there in the dark when
a light is turned on?
Don't give negative thoughts power, for as you think, so you
will receive. Affirmative thoughts can and do rout out the
negative. Uttered in faith, a prayer of thanks for your blessings
will dispel all negative thoughts and eliminate any harmful
consequences.
