Brother Don Westling, 32, has a full life, and Freemasonry
is an integral part of it, even extending to his hobbies.
Brother Westling (above) poses with one of his finest Masonic
handicrafts, a stained glass creation dedicated to the
symbolism of the Eighteenth Degree, Knight of the Rose Croix,
with its universal Masonic proclamation of the Brotherhood of
Man under the Fatherhood of God.

This message is particularly relevant at this time of year
as we observe Maundy Thursday, Passover, and Easter. In Brother
Westling's words, "It's too bad the entire world can't see and
realize the meaning of these observances. It sure would be a
better world!"

A Master Mason since he was raised a member of Joppa Lodge
No. 300 of Minneapolis, Minnesota, on May 26, 1947, Brother
Westling is also a longtime member of the Minneapolis Scottish
Rite Bodies, having been made a Master of the Royal Secret on
December 23, 1948. He was also active as a member of the
Patrol, Zuhiah Shrine Temple, Minneapolis. In addition, his
wife Dorothy belongs to Eastern Star, his two daughters are
Job's Daughters, and his son joined DeMolay. Looking back over
fifty-three years of marriage and family life, Brother Westling
observes that "saying we have had many wonderful times with the
Masonic Order is almost an understatement."

The founder and former head of Westling Manufacturing
Company of Princeton, Minnesota, (now headed by his son who is
also a Shriner and Thirty-second Degree Mason), Brother
Westling enjoys many hobbies such as hunting, fishing, working
with wood, raising roses, and baking bread. "I've made 932
loaves so far and given it all away," he reported some time
ago. There's no telling how many loaves he has given to friends
and the needy by now!

Thank you, Brother Westling. Your life and lovely stained
glass window exemplify this Passover/Easter season's new law of
love, freedom, and thanksgiving.
