In 1781, Benjamin Franklin was representing the newly
independent United States of America at a Diplomatic dinner. The
French Foreign Secretary opened the ocassion by toasting the
King.

To his Majesty King Louie the Sun, who's shining presence
radiates the earth of France.

The British Secretary then rose to toast the King of England, To
George the III the Moon, who's brillance lights up the skies of
England.

Then Benjamin Franklin rose and said with a twinkle in his eye. I
can not give you the Sun or the Moon, but I give you General
George Washington of the United States, the Joushua who made the
sun and the moon stand still when he commanded.
