JAMES EMORY FOX - Baseball "Hall of Famer"
He played first and third base and also was a catcher.
He was noted as a batter - particularly as a home run hitter.
In three World Series he compiled a mark of . 344 and in seven
All-Star games batted . 316 . He collected 534 home runs in
2317 games and had a life-time batting average of . 325
His nickname was "Beast." He played for Philadelphia (AL)
from 1925-35; Boston (AL) 1936-42 and Chicago (NL) 1942-44.
He received his degrees in George W. Bartram Lodge No . 298,
in Media, PA. in 1930-31

GEORGE M COHAN - Actor, Composer, Playwright

( 1878-1942 )  Both a Roman Catholic and a Freemason .  Raised
in 1905, Pacific Lodge No . 233, New York City and Life Member
of Scottish Rite (NJ) and Mecca Shrine Temple, New York City.
Made his first professional appearance at age of 9 in vaude-
ville. Wrote many songs and plays including "Seven Keys to
Baldpate." He starred in "I'd Rather Be Right."

HIRAM ABIFF BOAZ - Methodist Minister

Born 1866 - a member of Granger Lodge No . 677, Texas, he
served as Grand Chaplain in 1953. Held several pastorates
in Texas and in 1922 elected Bishop of M.E. Church and as-
signed to superintend chuch work in China, Japan, Siberia
and Manchuria. From 1911-13 he was President of S_M.U.

J. EDGAR HOOVER - Director of Federal Bureau of Investigation

Born 1895 in Washington,D.C. Graduated from George Washing-
ton University in 1917. Became a member of Federal Lodge No.
1, Washington in 1920 . Was a Royal Arch Mason, Knight Templar
and 33 Scottish Rite Mason. He was an active member of the
Grand Council, Order of De Molay. In 1950 received the Grand
Lodge of New York' s Achievement Award and in 1954 awarded the
Gold Medal of the General Grand Chapter, Royal Arch Masons.

DANIEL CARTER BEARD - Organized the Boy Scouts in U.S.A.

(1850-1941) Started as a book and magazine illustrator and
teacher of drawing. He was Chief Scout, department of wood-
craft, at Culver Military Acadamy (Ind. ) 1911-1915 .   Mt. Beard,
the peak adjoining Mt. McKinley, is named for him. Wrote
many books on scouting and wilderness lore. Raised in Mariner's
Lodge No. 67, New York City and later a member of Cornucopia
Lodge No . 563, Flushing, N . Y .

CHARLES XIII, KING OF SWEDEN - Rewrote and Revised Rituals

(1747-1818)  Reigned from 1809 to 1818 . In 1777, becoming
dissatisfied with the rite, he ordered all rituals returned
and from 1778 to 1780 personally rewrote and revised them.
They can be seen today in his own handwriting. After his ascen-
sion to the throne he instituted the 11th Degree of the Swedish
Rite. Since his reign each King of Sweden has been either
Grand Master of "Protector of the Craft in Sweden.
