Building Your Repritoire:
The Right Stuff
Whew...I had already finished this page and my computer locked up.  Let that be a lesson.  A lesson about...something.  Anyway, when I build a character, I look through the Players Hand Book, Dungeon Masters Guide and a whole host of other fantasy and D&D related material.  I look through it and I think, "What is a cool looking weapon/peice of armor/facial expression/or whatever" and I build my charater after that.  I sometimes model an entire character after a type of weapon or a style of character I saw or thought up.  Sometimes, I start a character and when I roll the stats, come up with a name and class and race and etc etc, I sit for a good hour and think, "What kind of weapon is this guy gonna use?  An axe?  A scythe?  Another Spiked Chain?"  I also think about what kind of personality this character has.  Is he a sneak, or right out front type of guy?  Would he rather have a weapon that keeps the enemies at bay, or one that is made for charging?  As the designer of the PC, you do get the final say.  Of course, you should look at the weapon's stats, or the armor's check penaltys.  Or you could just forgo all that, and go with what you want.  Maybe you want a plate mail wearing, sheild bearing....sling swinger.  A....different aproach, but hey, it is your character in the end.  And no one can tell you what your made up character can and can't do.  And if they try, you can pelt them with sling bullets!!!
