Pictures of Combination Locks with Keyholes
Carl has provided four pictures of a disassembled Master Combination Lock with the keyhole. The keys are for lock systems such as a group of gym lockers. The same key operates all locks in the system, but not other systems. Locks with keyholes have two serial numbers, one for the combination and one for the key. The locker administrator can use the key to open a locker, when the user is having trouble getting it open using the combination, or to open it for an "after hours" locker inspection.
The second and third cams have been removed. The first cam, with its one deep notch and eleven shallow notches, is visible. Note the arm, which pivots on the shaft next to the key cylinder. The arm pushes the latch back when the key is turned clockwise. The latch assembly does not pivot when the key is used to open the lock.

Note also the "rake" on the shackle. When the lock is opened, the rake pushes a peg on the third cam, pushing the notch on the third cam out of alignment. Note, also, the flat spring which keeps the latch assembly away from the cams when the shackle is not pulled. The spring ensures that the latch assembly does not drag on the cams when the combination is dialed normally.
