Even though the Scorpions have been around since the early 70's, I chose to include them in the 80's section because of their distinct 80's sound. Much like Dio, the Scorpions experimented with synthensizers and voice manipulation that defined the 80's era of music. While technically the Scorpions are heavy metal, most of their songs have the feeling of a love song, which meant not just metal fans enjoyed their music. Once again, like Dio, the whining guitars and magical synthensizers provide a compelling aspect to the music. Owning one of their songs is not only a must for metal heads, but for anyone interested in 80's culture. The Scorpions make a nice accent to some of the harder bands in the heavy metal realm, like Metal Church, which makes the metal genre that much more endearing. |
