Overview

When General Rebecca Fredasa ordered the commision of the Sovetskii Soyuz 
class cruisers in the year 2742, she intended the new heavy cruiser to be, as 
one admiral described it, the "economy car" of warships. Capable of being 
produced across the Star League in incredible numbers (four hundred were 
built in just under 25 years) the Soyuz class did have several faults as a 
result of the rush to build it. The same admiral that described it as an 
economy car also was heard to say "It is sorely depressing that such a 
beautiful warship would be so slow, under gunned, and fragile".

In the year 2758 however it was decided that a "luxury sports car" version of 
the Sovetskii Soyuz would be built. The end result of two years of careful 
redesign work was the Sovremenyy Attack Cruiser.

Though aside from a few minor alterations the ship appears to be an exact 
duplicate of the sleek and deadly looking Sovetskii Soyuz, but it has one key 
advantage over its progenitor. It infact is sleek and deadly. Bluenose 
Clipperships went all out on the ship, fitting it with an advanced propulsion 
system that made the new cruiser the fastest ship in the fleet and more than 
twice as fast as the Soyuz. The weapons load was copied from the original 
Soyuz but upgraded with more powerful weapons. Armor protection was increased 
to a level better than most battlecruisers through the use of the latest 
lamenor ferro carbide composites. The only thing that was left out, a 
consequence of cargo and cost considerations, was a lithium fusion battery.

Bluenose Clipperships produced six Sovremenyys in the time leading up to the 
Amaris Coup. The last one produced, the Oktyabrskava Revolutsiva, was just 
completed on Chistmas Eve 2766, and was siezed intact by Stephan Amaris's 
forces. Unknown to everyone but Amaris's top officers, the ship remained over 
Terra as Amaris's last defense and possibly his escape craft until just a 
month before the final assault by Kerensky, when it and two battalions of Rim 
Worlds troops disapeared. It is believed the ship and troops fled to the 
periphery to avoid destruction by the vengeful SLDF.

Of the remaining five ships, the Sovremenyy, Nesokrushimyy, and Udaloy were 
lost during the campaign to retake the Terran Hegemony. The Osmotritelnyy 
joined the exodus and was eventually destroyed during the pentagon civil war. 
The Provornyy was crippled during the campaign against Amaris and abandoned, 
only to be salvaged by House Marik later on and destroyed during the first 
succesion war.
