Getting Ahead 2
By Kimmy K. Rachel and Cat
The next day, Joey and Pacey were sitting on Joey's bed, studying.
"Joey,
why do we have to study?" Pacey whined.
"Because..."
Joey said absentmindedly. She was smiling to herself and didn't really listen
to what he was saying.
"And
why are you grinning like an idiot?" He asked, annoyed.
“What?
Can’t I smile?”
“Well you
need a reason to smile. Did something happen yesterday?”
“No.” Joey
said quickly making Pacey even more suspicious.
“When was
the last time you saw Dawson?”
“What?
Pacey will you shut up. We have a big history test tomorrow and I don’t want to
fail.”
Pacey
frowned. “You don’t usually smile so much. Something must have made you smile.
Or someone.”
“Pacey.”
Joey said exasperated. “I need to study. Can you understand that?”
Pacey
sighed. “Ok, let’s study. But Can I have a ‘reward’ afterwards?”
Joey smiled
mischievously. “Of course, but you need to study first.”
Pacey
smiled forgetting about Joey’s unusual behavior. “Yes ma’am.”
~O~
“Hey.”
“Hey.
You’re late.”
Joey smiled
and sat down on the chair opposite her. “I know. I’m sorry. I was studying with
Pacey.”
“Studying,
huh? Why don’t I believe that?” Jen said mischievously.
“We were
studying. For a while.”
Jen nodded.
“So…what did you want to talk about?”
“Well you
know…what happened yesterday.”
“What’s
there to say Joey? We kissed, that’s it.”
Joey smiled
nervously. “It felt more than just a simple kiss to me, Jen.”
Jen was
surprised. She didn’t expect Joey to admit such a thing. Jen too, had felt that
the kiss was more than just a kiss. “Um, Joey, were you ever attracted to a
woman?”
“What? I’m
not a lesbian Jen.”
“I know,
but you said that the kiss felt more than just a kiss.”
Joey
sighed. “I don’t know what to think, Jen.”
“Joey?”
Joey looked
in Jen’s eyes intensely. “What?” She whispered.
“Are you
attracted to me?”
Joey: Excuse me?
Jen: I said are you attracted to me?
Joey looked away and flipped through her book. Jen sighed and turned away too,
feeling a little bad over the lack of answer
Jen: You could just say no...It's not that big of a deal
Joey answered slowly in a small unsure voice "What if I don't want to say
no"
Jen smiled faintly "Should I take that as a yes?"
joey: Let's leave it as a maybe...
Joey stopped fidgeting as she looked Jen straight in the eyes. She wanted to
tell her how she felt. She wasn't even sure what she was feeling but she wanted
jen to at least understand.
Jen: You don't have to say anything. I already know what your thinking.
Joey: How do you know?
Jen: Because i feel it too..
Joey: Jen I..
Mrs. Tringle: Ms. Potter and Ms. Lindley, would you care to share with us what
you feel is so important that you think you can sit here and interrupt my
class.
Joey: I'm sorry it won't happen again
Jen put her face down as she looked at her English book and back at Joey. She
desperately wanted to hear what joey was about to say. She didn't know how to
feel either but she knew that she liked the kiss. She wanted to tell her that
but she was just going to have to wait. Jen watched the clock as the next 45
minutes went by very slowly. Finally the bell rang. Joey got up quickly but Jen
followed her.
Joey: Let's just forget about it.
Jen: Forget what?
Joey: It was just 2 teenagers who were experimenting… it was fun but it can't
happen again.
Jen put on a tough face and pretended to be unphased by this "Your right.
These feelings are totally normal"
Joey: Right, completely normal. Joey nodded as she looked away
Jen: Okay, well then. Now that we got that out of the way let's finish some
more of the project. There are a couple of books in the school library that
should tell us some more about it...And we have to make a few copies of some
things.
Joey: Okay...um...yeah…whatever
Joey slung her back pack over her other shoulder as jen started walking down
the hall to the library
Jen "Are you coming?" Joey looked from the floor and back to Jen
before she caught up with her.
There was an awkward silence as they sifted through books in the back of the
library. Joey and Jen reached for the same book and finally looked each other
in the face. They both felt an electric charge shoot up their arm and send
little tingles all over.
Joey: I need to...um I'm going to uh...Joey held open a book
Jen: Photocopy it?
Joey's face turned a slight shade of pink. They exchanged an awkward laugh
before Joey went into the small photocopying room. Jen leaned against the back
of her chair with her jacket draped over it. She pretended to be interested in
one book but then put it down on a table in frustration and opened the door to
the room. Joey turned around stiffening up a little.
Jen: I need to..
Joey: I won't be long
Jen: No um I don't want to copy anything...I just wanted to set things straight
Jen felt a little nervous but she didn't know why "When we kissed...I felt
something. I'm not sure what it is or if it's there anymore...But I needed to
tell you that
Joey: ...I felt something too. Maybe it's gone by now
Jen: There's only one way to see
Jen leaned forward and kissed Joey who kissed her back
Joey: What if someone sees us?
Jen: No one goes in here
Joey: But anyone can walk by and....oh screw it
Joey pulled Jen in for a passionate kiss. There hands started roaming around
and soon they were feeling very hot between the legs. Jen grinned in excitement
as she pulled away for a second "I can't believe we're doing this…It's so
wrong"
Joey let out a little breath of air, "But it feels so good"
Maybe it was the danger of getting caught but something intensified between
them. They ignored the sound of the bell and kept on making out...
Pacey walked quickly to the library steps, a thousand things
plaguing him at once. This thing that suddenly seemed so different inside of
Joey was really starting to bother him. Something seemed so off. Was it the
sex? Had he rushed her into it and now these weird vibes meant that she was
pulling away from him? Was it someone else? Another guy? Was it..... Dawson?
He convinced himself that it was, and just as he started to mount the steps,
Dawson came out of the library. Pacey stood in awe of Dawson's arrogance as he
started to pass without even looking at Pacey. Pacey turned around and watched
him start to leave. Dawson never even looked at him.
"HEY!"
Dawson
spun around and stared. Pacey stood their gawking at him, unsure now of what to
say.
"What?"
Dawson finally snapped. Pacey looked around, then approached Dawson angrily,
his head down but his eyes focussed in a nasty glare at Dawson's head.
"I
wanna know what the hell is going on..." He started.
"What?"
"I said I wanna know what the hell is going on!"
"What are you---"
"Don't give me that bull! I know something is up between you and Joey! The
way she's been acting...disappearing for hours and then when I do see her,
she's all flustered...like she's been doing something! I don't have to
be a psychic to now that leads to you. I don't need a magic eightball to tell
me all signs point to yes!"
Dawson laughed.
"You are seriously cracked!"
"Am I? Am I really??? I hope I am, cause right now I wanna beat the sh*t
out of you, so for your sake, I hope I am cracked."
"Look," Dawson said, tiring of Pacey's suspicions. "Even if I
wish it were true...and oh how I do just to know that its messing you up, I'm
not."
"I don't believe you."
"Well, you should. If you don't believe me, why don't you just ask her
yourself?"
"I WILL!"
"GOOD!"
"GREAT!"
The boys stared at eachother disgustedly for a moment.
"She's in the copy room..."
"Okay, thanks..."
Dawson
disappeared. Pacey went up the steps into the cool, dark library in search of
his beloved.
"The
copy room," He mumbled heading to the back of the building.
He was gonna find her, and confront her, and then he would at least know the
truth. No matter how bad it hurt him.
What was it about him and chicks cheating on him??? First Andie, who he had
complete faith in, cheated on him with a psycho mental patient named Bob or
Marc or some other obstrinate name. And now Joey...
"Joey, please don't be cheating on me with Dawson," Pacey sighed as
he walked past the tall library shelves to where the copy room was.
The door
was closed when he got there, and as he reached it, as he took the doorknob and
started to turn it, he heard a loud giggle and jumped back. Straining to
listen, he pressed his ear to the door. Was that...? Was that a kissing
sound coming from inside? Pacey suddenly started to fall as the door swung
inward revealing the copy room, Joey, and ...Jen?
His view
was blocked by the back of Jen's head, but he swore they had been
"close"... Now they were apart staring down at Pacey with stricken
looks of horror plastered across their pretty faces. Both started to blush as
Pacey stared at them wide eyed.
"I'm gonna go!" Jen said grabbing her book bag and rushing out past
Pacey. Joey gulped and leaned back against one of the copiers. Pacey turned his
head this way and that, watching Joey and the disappearing form of Jen
simultaneously.
"What...what...what...." he stammered. Joey quickly composed herself.
"Hi Pacey, what are you doing here?"
"What..."
"Me and Jen were just finishing our report! I think we're going to get an
'A'...we've done a lot of research."
"What were you guys 'doing'?"
"Huh?"
"When I came in, it looked like...like...and I thought I heard..."
"What? Oh, don't be silly!" Joey laughed, tucking her hair behind her
ear. She, too, grabbed up her book bag and papers and started out the door.
Pacey stood their gawking at her with his mouth hanging open trying to get his
mind straight. Had they...had they been...kissing?
"Well?" Joey shrugged from the doorway. "Are you coming?"
Pacey shrugged his
shoulders and nodded yes.
Pacey: Wait you forgot this...Pacey picked up one of the books that Joey forgot
to take. His eyes bugged out when he saw the title...
Pacey’s throat went dry as he shakily read out loud "Lesbianism in the
21st century".
Joey stood there gawking at Pacey who was now flipping the pages. Pacey stopped
in the middle of the book when he saw a rather detailed picture. Pacey turned
it sideways and then upside down "Uhh, interesting selection"
Joey looked at her shoes as she held out one hand for the book
Pacey reached out too and for a moment he just gripped the book until she was
able to pry it from his hands
Pacey: So um...any particular reason you were researching such a ..a colorful
subject?
Joey: Actually it was Jen's idea.
Pacey: Uh huh…Joey's head shot up as she realized what she said
Joey: I mean it was her idea to try someth...do something different. So I...I
mean SHE..I mean WE decided to umm...explore the subject a little
Pacey: Explore.
Joey: Yeah...the library is a great place for exploring
Pacey: Right.
Joey nodded as she nervously played with the ends of her hair
Pacey: You okay Jo...you look a little flushed
Joey replied too quickly "I'm fine! ...uhhh, yeah. Peachy"
Pacey: Peachy?? Well I guess we better get going then
Joey: Yeah. Do you want to DO it later?
Pacey: Excuse me??!!
Joey: The project! ...I meant the project. We could always use an extra hand…I
mean we need to be on TOP of things...I mean it's very hard...the project!
Pacey: The project. Joey nodded and repeated more confidently "The
project."
Pacey: uhh...yeah. Sure. Whatever
Joey: Okay then
Pacey: Oh and these are for you too
Joey: Huh?
Joey's eyes wondered down to the "All about your vagina" pamphlets.
Her face turned an undiscovered shade of red as she held took the pamphlets and
struggled to put them in her bag.
Pacey: Well if there are no more books or pamphlets, I think it's safe to go
now
Joey just shook her head and walked out the door with Pacey taking one last
look in the room *all about your vagina…this is one fucked up school
library...I wonder if there's anymore*
Joey*why the hell did Jen pick up those pamphlets…and that book! At least he
didn't see page 69! ...Then I would have had some explaining to do*
