Chapter 8

    Pacey and Doug walked  into the kitchen, where Bessie had answered the phone. They both looked at her expectantly.

Bessie- (on the phone) Sure, Dawson, hold on a sec. Pace, it's Dawson, for you.

    The faces of all three showed great disappointment.

Pacey- Hey, D.

Dawson- Pacey, man, why haven't you called? Did Doug find anything?

Pacey- Sorry, I was actually just about to call. No, he didn't find anything. And my dads men are back, that looked in nearby towns. They haven't found anything either. Doug says that since it rained, stuff like trietracks could've been smudged, so it'll be
harder to do an investigation. Did you hear about that escaped convict that they thought could've been passing by Capeside?

Dawson- Yeah, you mentioned that maybe this was somewhat related.

Pacey- Oh, that's right. Well I talked to Doug abut that and he's kinnda thinking the same thing. There's no other explanation.

Dawson- Oh, God. Joey could be in serious trouble.

Pacey- Well, that's what I though too but Doug doesn't think this guy would hurt her. What Doug thinks is that maybe, after you left to go get that picture, Joey saw that guy and he took her. Doug doesn't think he would hurt her though because he's
already in so much trouble with the law.

Dawson- Well, what would he want with her then? Wouldn't she just get in the way?

Pacey- Well, that's what I thought too, but he could be using her for things like making her go out and get things in stores.

Dawson- What do you mean?

Pacey- Well this guy needs things like food and drink. Well the second someone sees him, they're gonna call the police, and he'll get carted off to jail. Maybe he has Joey do stuff like that.

Dawson- Well, wouldn't Joey just run away, or tell someone?

Pacey- Yeah, but he knows she lives in Capeside. Maybe he threatens to kill the people back her.

Dawson- Maybe, but I don't know.

Pacey- Well, obviously none of us are positive of anything having to do with Joey right now, but it does seem like the only logical explanation for Joey all of a sudden disappearing.

Dawson- Well, yeah that's true.

Pacey- I think we should tell Jen, Jack, and Andie. They all love Joey too, so they have a right to know.

Dawson- I was thinking the same thing.

Pacey- Seeing as how this isn't an official case yet, Doug doesn't think this should leak out, so we should tell them to keep it quiet.

Dawson- Yeah, he's probably right. Well Jen lives right next door so I think I'll head over there right now and tell her. It's kind of late, but under the circumstances, I think it'll be ok.

Pacey- Yeah. Well I'll drive over to Andie and Jacks and tell them. Why don't I stop by in about an hour?

Dawson- Ok, Pace. Good luck.

Pacey- Yeah, you too.

    Pacey hung up and turned to Bessie and Doug who were sitting at the table and talking.

Pacey- I just filled Dawson in on everything. He's on his way over to tell Jen and I'm gonna drive over to Jack and Andies to tell them. Then I'm going over to Dawsons.

Doug- Ok. I'm going to stay here with Bessie until Bodie comes. Then I'm going back to the station. I'm gonna start to get some plans together even though I can't really do anything for a few hours.

Bessie- Thank you so much Doug, for everything you've done.

Doug- It's not any trouble Bess. I wanna find her too.

Pacey- I'm gonna leave now, Doug. Call here if you find anything out, and I'll keep checking back.

Doug- Ok.

Pacey- Bye.

Bessie- Bye, Pacey.

    Pacey left but was really nervous. What was he gonna tell them?! He would just have to tell them the truth. If only he knew the truth.....
