Chapter 5

    Pacey and Dawson made it to the police office in record time, due to Pacey's speeding. Pacey barely had turned off the car when both Pacey and Dawson had flung open their doors and were racing up the
steps, into the building. Pacey spotted Doug right away and ran up to him.

Pacey- Thank god you're here Doug!

Doug- What happened?

Pacey- Joey's missing!

Doug-  Joey's missing? What are you talking about?

Dawson- Can we talk somewhere private?

Doug- Yeah sure. Come into my office.

    Doug lead them to his office and shut the door.

Doug- Now what is all this about Joey missing?

Dawson- Well me and her went out today to talk about some things that had happened.

    Doug instinctively looked at Pacey seeing as how he knew exactly what "things" Dawson was talking about.

Dawson- We went to the Ruins and I left her alone for a couple of minutes while I went to get something from my car and when I came back, she was gone.

Doug- Well hold on a minute. How do you know she didn't just leave?

Dawson- I've looked everywhere for her. Plus I found this.

    Dawson took the bracelet out of his jacket pocket and gave it to Doug.

Doug- This belongs to Joey, I'm assuming?

Dawson- Yeah. I guess she'd been wearing it today. I found it when I came back from my car.

Doug- What time about did you notice Joey was missing?

Dawson- I'm not sure exactly. It must've been some time around 6:30.

Doug- 6:30 tonight, correct?

Dawson- Yeah.

Doug- Well it's 8:10 now so she's only been missing for about an hour and a half. As I'm sure both of you know I can't file her as missing for another 23 hours. However, I will take a drive around town and see if she turns up. Dawson, I'd like to take a full statement from you first. Does Bessie know about any of this?

Dawson- No. I tried to get in touch with her but it was impossible.

Doug- Ok, Pacey why don't you take a drive to the Potters and inform Bessie about all of this. I would do it but sense this isn't a real police case yet, there's no need for me to be there. I can't get the word out,
or inform surrounding towns and cities until she's been gone for 24 hours though. Dawson I'll take your statement now and then I'll go look around town. Pacey, you go tell Bessie now and tell her if she has
any questions to call me. If anyone hears anything while I'm looking, you know how to reach me.

Pacey- Yeah.

Doug- Did you both come in one car?

Pacey- Yeah. Dawson's car is back at our house.

Doug- Ok, well after I take your statement Dawson, I'll swing by my house so you can pick up your car.

Dawson- Ok, thanks Doug.

Doug- Sure. Ok, come with me so I can take your statement. Pacey, I'll call you when I'm done looking. If you hear anything in the meantime, be sure to give me a call, ok?

Pacey- Sure. And Doug?

Doug- Yeah?

Pacey- Thanks a lot!

Doug- You're welcome Pacey.

    And with that, Dawson, Pacey, and Doug left the office.

    Pacey arrived at the Potter B&B and was very nervous. He knew Bessie would be really upset. He walked up the steps and knocked once on the door.

Bessie- Welcome to the Potter... oh hey Pace.

Pacey- Hey Bess. Umm.. Joey isn't here by any chance, is she?

Bessie- No, she still hasn't come home.

Pacey- Bess, can I come in?

Bessie- Sure kid. Something you wanna talk about?

Pacey- Yeah. Why don't we go sit down?

Bessie- Ok. What's up?

Pacey- Well as you know Joey and Dawson went out today. They went out to eat and back to his house to watch a movie and then they went to the Ruins to talk about something. Well at about 7:30 Dawson
came over my house frantically knocking on my door and when I let him in he told me that Joey was missing. He said that they had gone to the Ruins and he went back to his car to get something, and when he went back to where he had left her, she was gone. He looked around for her, but he didn't find her.

Bessie- Oh my God.

Pacey- We told Doug and he's taking a formal statement from Dawson right now and then he's gonna look around Capeside for her. He'll call when he's done. He can't do anything else until she's been gone for 24 hours. He said to call if you have any questions, or if we find anything out.

Bessie- Does anyone have any idea as to what happened?

Pacey- No one knows anything. But I know she's ok. I can feel it. We'll find her, soon. Jo's a fighter. Plus we don't even know if something bad happened. Maybe she just needed to get away for a day.

Bessie- Pace, you know that's not true. Joey would never do that. I'm ok, you don't have to try to make me feel better. God, this can't be happening. I refuse to loose my sister.

Pacey- You won't loose her Bess. I promise. Do you wanna call Doug?

Bessie- Does he know anything you don't?

Pacey- No, I don't think so.

Bessie- Well, I guess not. I'll just stay put and wait for him to call. In the meantime would you mind maybe calling around a little bit?

Pacey- Sure. I'll call any place I think Joey could've gone.

Bessie- Thanks Pace.

Pacey- No problem.

Bessie- So, what do we do in the meantime?

Pacey- Nothing except wait.

Bessie- Right, we wait.
