Chapter 4

    Pacey was completely confused. He didn't know what to think or what to do. Joey, his Joey, missing? Gone? No, Dawson must be mistaken. Nothing could happen to his Joey.

Pacey- She's gone? She disappeared? What the hell are you talking about?!?!

    By this time Pacey was yelling.

Dawson- I don't know... I came back.. and.. and she was... I went back to the exact spot... she wasn't.. I don't know where.. she never.. she was just gone.

Pacey- What the hell are you talking about? What do you mean she was gone? What happened? Where? C'mon clue me in here!!

    Pacey was now mad, upset, and aggravated. Mad because, although he didn't know what, something bad had happened to Joey. Someone had the audacity to mess with his Joey!! He was upset because he couldn't even fathom the idea of ANYTHING bad happening to her; let alone her being take from his life. And lastly he was aggravated because Dawson wasn't making any sense; he wasn't giving him any details. He was making him more scared.

Dawson- Ok well... uummm....

Pacey- Jesus Christ Dawson!!! Spit it out! C'mon, I'm really petrified here!! Just tell me the whole story!!

Dawson- Ok, uumm... well... I called Joey earlier today, sometime.. I don't know, about 9:00 I guess. Any ways, I called her because I wanted to talk to her. I didn't feel good about how things went down last night and I wanted to try to fix it.

    Ordinarily that would've offended Pacey. Usually he would've thought and I'm not worth mending things with?! But right now he couldn't care less about that. He had way more important things to deal with.

Dawson- So I called her and asked her to come out with me today. I planned a whole day for the two of us and she agreed to come. I picked her up around quarter of 12 and we went to my parents restaurant for lunch. Then we went back to my house and watched ET. Then we decided that we needed to talk so we drove out to the ruins and went for a walk. While we were walking we got to talking and we decided that we'd try to regain our friendship and build it back up. Then I told her I had a surprise for her and to wait right there for me and she said ok. Then I went back to the car and I got out a picture. It was a picture Aunt Gwen gave me when we visited her. It's a painting she did of me and Joey when we were younger. She gave it to me to keep but I was going to give it to Joey. Ya know, as a reminder of our friendship and how much we could lose. So I got the picture out of my car and I walked back to where I had left Joey; but she wasn't there. I figured she might've just walked off somewhere so I started looking for her and after a couple of minutes I started screaming her name and running everywhere. I just couldn't find her. I had no idea where she was so I retraced my steps. As I was walking by the spot I'd last seen her at I noticed this.

    Dawson went into his jacket pocket and pulled out a bracelet. It was cold and had 3 charms on it: a cross, a heart, and the last charm was the word 'Joey'. Joey had gotten the cross charm from her mom on her 10th birthday. For her 14th birthday Pacey and gotten her and elegant bold bracelet. One day when she was at Dawson's house he had snuck into her house and took the charm from her jewelry box. He put that and the new charm, the word Joey, on the bracelet and gave it to her as a present for her birthday. He had given her the heart one for her last birthday.

    She had really loved it. He couldn't believe she still wore it all the time.

Dawson- I found this bracelet in the sand. Then drove around a little bit looking for her but I didn't find her. I went to her house and no one was home, not even B&B guests,  so I looked for the extra key they keep in the plant. When I found in I ran into her house but she wasn't there. Then I drove to my house. I didn't know why she would leave, or why she would go to my house but I wasn't thinking clearly. So I drove to my house and no one was home. I unlocked the door and looked to see if she was there but she wasn't. I even called the restaurant to see if she'd gone there for some reason but my mom said she hadn't seen her sense lunch. I would've called Bessie but I didn't know where she was. So then I came here. I don't know if she ran away or if someone took her or what but I know she's gone.

Pacey- Oh my God. How could this happen? She wouldn't have run away. No way. She wouldn't leave her friends or her family. She wouldn't jeopardize her schooling like that. Something must've happened.

    Then understanding dawned on Pacey's face. Now he had an idea of what could have happened.

Pacey- Oh God.

Dawson- What? What are you thinking?

Pacey- Jen came over earlier to see how everything was. While she was hear we heard this news broadcast about some escaped convict who was suspected to be heading for Capeside. Me and Jen just shrugged it off but maybe.....

Dawson- Maybe he did come here.

Pacey- Oh God, this is awful!! C'mon, we have to go to the police. We'll take your car.

Dawson- No, let's take yours. I did a lot of driving around and I have no gas. I don't think it could get us to the station.

Pacey- Ok, lets go.

Dawson- Ok.

    And they left. Pacey was near tears but he knew he had to keep it together. He had to for Joey.
