Chapter 3

    Jen was really nervous about going to see everyone today. She didn't know how Joey and Pacey would re-act to her. She knew they weren't mad but still... She decided to go to Joey's, then Pacey's, then Dawson's and last the McPhee's. First she'd visit Andie and then Jack. She looked at the clock. It was 1:00. Well she couldn't put it off any longer. She'd have to start making the rounds. She grabbed her
jacket and left for the day's adventure.

    It was a cool day. Windy and chilly but not cold. Nice day for a walk. Jen was in deep thought about what she should day to everyone and didn't notice she'd reached Joey's until she almost fell over the
porch. Thank god no one saw that Jen thought to herself. Here goes nothin’. She walked up the porch steps and knocked on the door. Just as she was about to knock again the door opened and she was faced
with a smiling Bessie.

Bessie- Good afternoon, Potter... Oh hi Jen. What can I do for you?

Jen- Hey Bessie. Actually I was wondering if Jo was home?

Bessie- No, hun. Sorry but she went out with Dawson about an hour ago.

Jen- She went out with Dawson?!

Bessie- Yeah. You sound surprised. Did something happen?

    Crap! Jen didn't know how much Joey planned on telling Bessie so she decided she'd just have to lie.

Jen- No, nothing happened. It's just I thought me and her were supposed to get together. I guess I must have confused the days. Sorry bout that. When she gets home can you just tell her to give me a call?

Bessie- Yeah no problem.

Jen- Thanks. See ya later.

Bessie- Bye Jen.

    Ok, Jen was thoroughly confused. Dawson and Joey out together? Yesterday their friendship was in the dumps. What changed? And what did this mean for Pacey? Jen decided to save her questions until
she got to Pacey's and could maybe get some answers. She arrived at the Witter household and knocked on the door. In a matter of seconds the door was swung open and an anxious looking Pacey was peering
out at her.

Pacey- Oh hey Lindley.

Jen- Hey Pace. What's that matter? Expecting Sarah Michelle Gellar?

Pacey- No, I was just hoping Jo might swing by some time today. That's what they call wishful thinking.

Jen- C'mon, don't be so hard on yourself. Can I come in?

Pacey- Oh sorry. Sure.

    Jen didn't know if Pacey knew Joey and Dawson were out together. She didn't want to let another cat outta the bag. She decided to see if he knew before she said anything.

Jen- Where is Joey today?

Pacey- Out with Dawson. (Pacey said in a monotone voice)

Jen- Oh so you do know?

Pacey- Yup. How did you know?

Jen- I went over to see her but Bessie told me she was out with Dawson.

Pacey- Ohh, I see.

Jen- How did you find out?

Pacey- I called her 'cause I figured we should probably talk about everything and when I called Bessie said she'd gone out with Dawson. I'm not surprised.

Jen- Well Pace, just because she wants to get back her friendship with Dawson doesn't mean that she doesn't want you as a part of her life. Besides you never know what they might say to each other. I mean
for all you know she could be telling him that she has feelings for you that she wants to pursue.

Pacey- Hey did you see that?

Jen- What?

Pacey- I thought I saw pigs flying.

    They both laughed at that.

Jen- Lighten up on yourself Pace.

Pacey- Yeah, I'll try.

Jen- Listen I came over here because I wanted to apologize. I really thought Dawson knew when I said something. I never would've intentionally messed anything up. I feel really, really, really bad.

Pacey- Don't worry about it. It would've come out sooner or later. I know you didn't mean for this to happen.

Jen- Thanks, Pace.

    They fell into a comfortable silence when they were jarred away from their thoughts by the TV. On it came a special bulletin.

Broadcaster- This breaking news just in. A man by then name of Jeffrey Hamilton escaped from the county jail in Boston. He was convicted of the rape and murder of a 30 year old woman who lived in
Boston. His sentence was 50 years which was being appealed by Hamilton's lawyers. Hamilton escaped on Thursday and has been seen in some towns surrounding Boston. However, police believe Hamilton's destination is Capeside, Mass. They say not only does his route indicate this but a gas attendant says he saw Hamilton not even 20 miles out of Capeside. Here is a picture of what Hamilton last looked like. (a photograph is put up.) If you have ANY information or clues please contact the Capeside police. The Capeside police would like everyone to be very careful and use precautions. We'll keep you updated. Now back to you Tim.

Jen- Oh, my God.

Pacey- Capeside? What wouldn't he hide out in someplace like New York?

Jen- You got me. I can only think of his reasoning being that police probably wouldn't look in a small town but he got found out. Maybe he just passed through here. Yeah he probably isn't even here anymore. Someone would've seen him by now.

Pacey- Yeah I guess you're right. I hope Dawson and Joey are ok.

Jen- Oh, I'm sure they're fine. It's only 1:45. No idiot would do anything in broad daylight. Plus it would be two against one so..

Pacey- Yeah you're probably right.

Jen- Yeah... so listen I should probably be going. I'll call you later?

Pacey- Yeah, please do. We can talk more.

Jen- Ok Bye.

Pacey- Be careful, ok?

Jen- Don't worry. Buh-bye.

    And with that Jen left. Pacey was really worried. What if this... Hamilton was it?.... did something to Joey, or Jen, or Andie, or anyone else in Capeside? Nah, Pacey thought. Not in Capeside. Pacey was
exhausted so he decided to take a nap. He went into his room and not even 10 minutes later, he fell asleep.
 

    Pacey was awoken by the sound of someone banging on his front door. He opened his eyes and looked at his alarm clock. Wow! It was nearly 7:30!!  Must've been really tired Pacey thought. Then he was reminded of the insistent banging on his door and walked down the hall to answer it.

Pacey- What? (Pacey was more then a little annoyed that someone had interrupted his sleep.)

Dawson- Pace, thank god you're home!

Pacey- Dawson, what are you doing here?

Dawson- Pace I need to talk to you.

Pacey- Ok, c'mon in.

Dawson- Pacey, something awful happened.

Pacey- What? What happened?

    Understanding flashed on Pacey's face.

Pacey- Did something happen to Joey?

Dawson- Pace she's gone. I don't know why or how or where but she disappeared.

    Pacey just stood there dumbfounded.
