Shortly after 11 AM on March 11th the Peabody Fire Department responded to Endicott Street for a fire in an 8 family occupied balloon type construction building. Firefighters engaged in an interior attack chasing fire throughout the walls and voids in the building. Eventually the fire got ahead of them and air horns sounded as the decision was made to pull all crews out of the building and focus on an exterior attack. eventually a 2nd, 3rd and 4th alarm were sounded bringing a total of 11 engines and 3 ladders to the scene plus numerous special units, command units and the rehab 5 bus. Peabody Ladder 1, Lynn Tower Ladder 4 and Beverly Ladder 1 poured water into the now collapsed roof from their aerial master streams, as additional hand lines and deck guns were put into use. Around 2 P.M. the fire was declared under control and mutual aid companies began making up. The building was total loss and all residents were displaced and given assitance by the Red Cross. One firefighter fell and was taken to Salem Hospital and was treated and released. Peabody companies that worked at the fire were: Peabody Engines 1,3,4,5 and 7, Ladder 1, Car 2 car 1, S1 with Cascade unit. Mutual aid companies: Lynn E10, Danvers E3, Swampscott E21, Salem E2, Marblehead E1, Middleton E3, Beverly L1 and Lynn Tower Ladder 4. The Peabody Light Department disconnected power to the entire neighborhood because of the risk posed to the aerial ladders by the overhead wires.


Peabody utilized their Air Unit to refill bottles at the scene.


The Beverly ladder at the rear of the house knocks shingles and portions of the building off and into the parking lot next door as it hits the roof with it's ladder pipe.
