Shortly before 4 AM on sunday Jan. 22nd Peabody fire crews responded to a fire alarm activation at the Amazing Superstore, a adult book and video store on Route 1 south (Newbury Street) arriving companies were met with heaving fire conditions, and as well as inadequte water pressure from the hydrant in front of the fire building. Second and third alarms were sounded bringing all remaining Peabody engines to the scene along with engines from Middleton, North Reading, Lynn and Lynnfield. Once an adequte water supply was obtained from other hydrants on Route 1, a section of highway was closed as crews went into defensive operations saving a nearby restaraunt and liqour store. The Amazing superstore was a total loss suffering from full roof collapse, it continued to burn well into the morning as 2 Peabody engines and Peabody Ladder 1 remained on scene cooling down hotspots. A Danvers engine and Lynn ladder covered Peabody Headquarters during the fire.

Smoke and the orange glow from flames can still be seen seen coming from the Amazing Superstore, it was fully involved when crews arrived.

A portion of Route 1 was closed during the height of the blaze.

Firefighters along with a firewall saved World Class Billiards and Mison Japanese Steak House which were attached to the fire building.

Peabody Ladder 1 operated at the rear of the fire building throughout the blaze.

Peabody Engines 1 and 4 operating in the parking lot of the nearby carwash.
