Fallen Petals

Hidden beneath the fallen petals
Under the leaves and all the mire
There lies beneath a dark veil
A smouldering, embering fire.

The dampness begins to gather
Between the folds so tight
Each petal bathed in lather
Waiting for the gentle bite.

Will the flames o'ertake the blooms?
Or will they just die and rot away?
Go back from where they came too soon,
Or live to see another lovely day?

Only a few have the answer true
Even the petals don't really know
They press together,  the few
Waiting for the story to unfold.

Hidden beneath the fallen petals
Under the leaves and all the mire
There lies beneath a dark veil
A smouldering, embering fire.
