Amendments and additions to By-Laws of the Mason-Dixon Lions Club

The By-Laws listed below are a collection of amendments and before they are applicable the By-Laws Committee will have to review then and the club membership will have to give their approval.

Article l

Name

SECTION A: The name of the organization shall be the Mason-Dixon Lions Club, chartered by, and under the jurisdiction of, the International Association of Lions Clubs.

Article ll

Objects

SECTION A: The objects of this club are:

1. To form a body of men/women thoroughly representative of the business and professional interests of the towns of Delta, Cardiff and vicinity; To unite its members in the closest bonds of good fellowship and to promote a closer business and social union among them.

2. To encourage active participation in all things that has to do with commercial, civic, and industrial betterment.

3. To uphold the principles of good government.

4. To assist in every honorable way in furthering the interests of its members, and toward bringing about a better understanding among men.

5. To teach that organization, co-operation, and reciprocity are better than rivalry, strife, and destructive competition.

6. To co-operate with other organizations engaged in worthwhile endeavors for the public's welfare.

7. To encourage the application of the highest ethical standards in business, and endeavor, by the exchange of methods and ideas to increase efficiency in all lines represented.

Article lll

Membership

SECTION A: Any adult male/female (18 years or older) person of good moral character and good standing in his community and who is engaged in a legitimate and recognized line of business or professional activity, shall be eligible to membership.

SECTION B: Membership shall be acquired by invitation only. Nominations shall be made on blanks provided by the membership committee and shall be signed by a member in good standing who shall act as sponsor. No prospective new member shall be invited to join this club until after his nomination has been approved. Nomination blank, together with check for entrance fee, must be in hands of secretary before member can be officially inducted into the club.

SECTION C: Members of the clergy shall be admitted to membership upon payment of the regular initiation fee and $5.00 per year to offset International dues and assessments.

Article lV

Fees and Dues

SECTION A: There shall be an entrance fee of $40.00 for each member of this club, which fee shall be collected before proposed member is identified as a member of this club and before the secretary shall be permitted to report the new member to Lions International. When a new member is reported to the Secretary General the regular International entrance fee must accompany report.

SECTION B: The membership dues, including luncheon fees shall be $184.00 per year for each active member, all payable quarterly or yearly in advance. Any guests or other expenses, if any, will be billed quarterly after the fact. The (International dues, magazine subscription and International convention fund tax is included in the membership dues.)

Article V

Resignations

SECTION A:

SECTION A: Resignation of any member shall become effective upon written notice to President or Secretary of club, provided all dues to date of resignation have been paid.

Article Vl

Forfeiture of Membership

SECTION A: The Secretary shall submit to the Board of Directors the name of any member who refuses or neglects to pay any indebt ness due the Club within 30 days after formal demand has been made by the Secretary. The Board shall decide definitely within 30 days thereafter whether the member shall be dropped or retained on the roster.

SECTION B: Any member may be expelled for cause from the club by a three-fourths vote of the entire Board of Directors.

SECTION C: The name of any member who shall absent himself from four consecutive regular meetings of the Club, without acceptable cause being given to the Attendance Committee or the Secretary, shall be suspended.

Article Vll

Qualification of Officers

 

SECTION A: Tail Twister may fine a member for any cause. There shall be no ruling from his decision. The fine shall be $ .25 and no member may be fined more than twice at any one meeting.

 

SECTION B: The Tail Twister may be fined by the unanimous vote of all members present and voting. The Tail Twister may not vote. His fine shall not exceed $1.00

 

SECTION C: The Board of Directors shall meet at call of the president or by two or more of the Directors.

 

SECTION D: Special committees may be named with Board approval to deal with any matter not covered by the regular committees.

 

Article lX

Club Elections

SECTION A: Two Directors shall be elected annually for a term of two years.

 

SECTION B: The election shall be by voice vote.

 

Article Xl

Club Meetings

 

SECTION A: Meetings to be held on the second and fourth Mondays of each month, at 6:30 pm. Members shall have timely notice of meeting place.

 

SECTION B: the Board of Directors shall determine the number, time and place of Spouse Nights.

 

SECTION C: The President with Board approval may omit one meeting in August and December, provided the members have timely notice.

 

SECTION D: At regular meetings, children (defined as boys or girls under the age of 18 years of age) are forbidden to take part. The exception to this rule will be on special occasions: Scout Night, Parent Son Night, Parent Daughter Night and the Family Picnic. They will be, under supervision of parents, able to take part in fund raising functions. Nov. 24, 1997
