suicide

I don’t believe that those that commit
suicide really wanted to end their lives
at all. They were only calling out for
help, and they felt that no one would
listen, could listen, and in the
taking of their own life, is the
ultimate cry for help. Everyone who
didn’t have time to listen or were
going about it the wrong was are
affected. Even people who didn’t
even like the person. The problem with people today, and I don’t
mean just youth, because not just youth commit suicide, is that
people are so lonely, and if we realised that everyone is alone,
then we could start to welcome others and all their baggage.
Suicide is a long-term solution for a short-term problem. I honestly believe this. There are heaps of people that hate their lives and
wish it would end, but are still around just because they don’t
want to end it themselves. It could be cowardice, fear, fear or
hurting loved ones. But eventually, things get better.

Some people see suicide as weakness.  I feel that this view is
just ignorance.  It takes a lot to take your own life, especially if a
person doesn’t believe in god, or afterlife.  Because then, are
they really escaping at all?  What lies after could be scarier.  If
that could be imaginable to someone contemplating suicide.  No,
I see suicide as strength, but a negative strength.  The really
weak ones, are those who want desperately to be dead or to
commit suicide, but are too afraid to do it.  That’s the weakest of
the lot.  But maybe it does take some strength to be able to see
that you can't do it.  A little resistance to show that maybe you
do value your life after all.  Even if it’s only a tiny bit.

We had a problem in New Zealand of suicide taking so many
lives, and recently there has been a nation-wide campaign
directed mainly at the youth of NZ to help prevent this called the
Yellow Ribbon Programme. People have been really involved with
getting it together, and although I don’t think it will really help
those who are seriously considering suicide, it will help those who
are on the borderline. Those who are feeling hurt or depressed.
So, it’s preventing the new lot of depressed young people. It’s so
good to see some effort to lower the suicide rate. And I really
hope that this works. The only thing about this is that it’s a bit
cheesy, and the whole design package is awful really [our
design teacher at school suggested someone take it over for
their project for the year].  But hopefully it will help someone.
even if all it does is save one person, then it’s worth it.
