Some religious people
find church a
necessary part of life
and frown upon
those that do not choose
church to be a
regular part of their
lives – be they
religious or not.
it seems to me that
although some church
goers are genuinely
seeking divine inspiration
at church,
many are there simply
for social status
[i.e. so that they will
be accepted
with a church], and
the benefits of
their attendance [their children may attend a school of that
instruction].
Surely this is a pathetic reason for going to church.
I say this because while
some go to church those that do not out
of choice or other are
condemned in the eyes of the community.
Church has little to
do with god – if belief in god is as it seems to
be, shouldn’t one be
able to be in touch with god at different
places? I can
think of many other more productive place to be
and things to do than
a hour or so singing and listening to a
‘pious’ people talk
to god for you. Fine if you find that church is
inspiring and enjoyable,
and I have often found it so – well
inspiring and thought
provoking at least. I’m not talking about
you, but more the self-righteous
religious types that herd their
families regularly to
church because they want to be known as
good people for it in
the community. To me, if all they can do to
show their love and
respect for their god is to have a pretty
image in the community
gives all that they are about a
superficial quality
that I really would rather not be a part of.
