Cubmaster's Notes
2005 - 2006

August 7, 2006

Just a few quick notes on Committee Meeting tonight. Only three of us showed up so it went pretty quick.

First, I want to thank everyone who helped out this weekend with the homecoming. We had a nice turnout for the parade both days and gave out about 100 lbs of candy each day!

More important, I want to thank those scouts, parents and siblings who came out at 6:00 am both Saturday and Sunday to clean up the park from the night before. Your efforts were really appreciated by everyone involved in the homecoming which made me especially proud to be associated with you. You are excellent representatives of Pack 43 and what Scouting is meant to be. You are among the unsung heroes for this weekend and, as a result of your efforts, we will be getting some brats & sodas for our Popcorn Rally in September. All of us in Pack 43 owe you a debt of gratitude.

We are fast approaching the end of summer and Join Scouting night is right around the corner. Please take some time to review the notes from this evening and see if there might be something you can help out with. We are still in serious need of some adult volunteers this coming year as there are several leaders who have either transferred (in the military) or will be crossing over into Boy Scouts. We have 47 scouts from 40+ families. If we had 1 parent as a registered volunteer participating in Committee we'd need to ask for a bigger room for Committee Meeting! I'd like nothing more than to have to ask for a bigger room because we have so much help. Please give this some serious consideration as it is very important for the continued health of our Cub Scout Pack.

July 30, 2006

Despite the heat the past three days and some challenging circumstances and weather, we had a blast at Resident Camp with the Webelos scouts. I spoke to the leaders who attended the first two sessions and they had a blast as well. I hope all of those scouts who attended had a great time. I'd like to thank those leaders who took the time to give all of these scouts the opportunity to attend these three sessions.

I hope everyone had a good time at the swim party last Wednesday. We had a pretty good attendance and everyone seemed to have fun. I'm glad that we were able to get the event in considering the damage from the storms the week before.

I'd like to thank the parents and leaders who took time to attend the planning session we had prior to the pool party. I will be updating the plan with the recommendations that were made and will get everyone an updated version some time this week.

We have this meeting each year before the swim party in order to allow more parents to participate in the planning. Out of the 25 families who came to swim, we only had 12 parents come early for the planning meeting. Of these, 11 were existing leaders (2 of which weren't even staying to swim) and 1 was a new leader. I realize that the change in schedule probably affected some families that were not able to attend either event, but with the volume of families that showed up for swimming, I have to say I was a little disappointed in the number that attended the planning meeting.

I know things are busy for everyone right now, especially with the start of school right around the corner, but in order for the Pack to have a successful and fun year, it takes the help of all of the parents. A little effort from a lot of people has a greater chance of success than a lot of effort from a few people. I would like to ask everyone to review the updated plan when it is sent out and take the time to seriously consider what role/effort you might be able to contribute to the success of our Pack in the coming years. We have a great Pack program and I know, with everyone's help, we can continue to make it even greater!

Keep yourselves safe and I hope to see everyone at the parade next weekend.

July 3, 2006

The notes from Committee Meeting last night are up on the website. Please grab a copy and check out some things. It's been a very fun summer so far and we have a few new things on the agenda that will come up before school starts.

St. Johns would like us to help paint the garage as soon as they decide on colors. I will be contacting everyone as soon as the plan is in place.

Also, cleanup at the homecoming will be VERY early this year. We have been asked to begin at 6:00am. I know it's early, but this is one of our contributions to the parks department in gratitude for the use of park facilities so please try and help out if you can.

Hope to see everyone at the picnic today! Should be lots of fun (keep praying that the rain holds off!)

June 4, 2006

Hope everyone had a good time at the Pack Cookout today. We couldn't have asked for better weather in June. We had a pretty good turnout, but we missed a few people.

We also had our Committee Meeting this afternoon. Please take a few minutes to grab them and check out what's going on. We have designated leaders for each of the camp sessions. They are all listed in the minutes. They will be contacting you regarding meeting to go to camp, directions, etc. We have a lot of adults in each session so please help these leaders as much as you can.

June 2, 2006

Hi everyone. Change in plans for Committee Meeting. Tony will be out of town Monday and Jeff, Lynn, Laurie and I have a ball game in Belleville that night which won't be over until 8 so Tony and I talked today and since we are getting together Sunday for the Pack Cookout, we'll just do the Committee Meeting then. We'll plan on about 3:00pm. Sorry for the change. See you there!

May 29, 2006

I just wanted extend my thanks to all of the scouts, parents and families who helped work at the Duck Pond Friday night. It was one of the children's favorites that evening! As most of you know, we do not actually do this as a fund raiser, but more as a contribution to the event as an added activity for the kids. I think it was a big hit. Thanks again for your support.

I also want to give a special thanks to all of you who came out Saturday morning to help clean up the picnic area. We had about 13 scouts along with parents, friends, brothers and sisters. It truly made the work go quickly. It's easy to forget that after all the fun and playtime on Friday night, there's a giant mess to clean up Saturday morning. Your work this past Saturday was a huge helping hand to our community and I am very proud to be a part of such a wonderful group of people. Thank you for all of your hard work!

May 21, 2006

Congratulations on another fun filled school year!

I would like to extend my thanks to everyone for a very smooth, timely and fun-filled evening. All of the children were very well behaved and I was extremely proud of all of our scouts for their excellent attention and patience throughout the evening.

I hope everyone enjoyed the Indian dancers and I would like to thank Tony for arranging that entertainment. It was kind of a last minute deal because the OA dancers fell through while I was out of the country but, as always, Tony came through in the pinch. Thanks Tony!

Everyone should be a little less hectic (right?) as our den programs take their summer hiatus, but please be sure to attend at least one Pack/Camp function each month so that your son can earn his Summertime Pin next September. We have a lot of activities planned and we would like to see everyone as often as possible, but I know the summer is time for baseball, vacations, swimming, etc. but please try to hit at least one thing each month.

If you weren't aware, the summer schedule is posted here in a link from the main page. Likewise, I have updated the calendar for the summer months. If anyone is still interested in camping, please let me know as soon as possible. You may still be able to get into either the overnight or day camps, but they are filling up quickly. Those of you who have new Webelos Scouts may like to look at Resident Camp. It is a great way for your son to get a jump on his Webelos Activity Badges.

If anyone has any questions about the summer activities please do not hesitate to contact any of the leaders. I am looking forward to seeing each and every one of you this summer. I hope you have a lot of fun, get to play a lot and most important, keep safe! Remember all of the good rules you learn in scouting and try to use them in your every day activities. May God bless you and keep you safe during these summer months.

May 3, 2006

I would like to thank the parents who were able to make it to the late meeting this past Monday.

I have put the notes up in the minutes section but wanted to remind you of a few things. First, we have a big turnout for camping especially the Fun with Son. This promises to be some of the best camp sessions yet. Those of you have not turned in camp forms/fees can still do so, but need to get them to me ASAP. The camp sessions are filling up quickly. Also, the discounts are no longer valid.

Please remember to mark your calendars for Advancement on May 15th. We will begin at 6:00 so I would like to have everyone one there no later than 5:45. This is our sons' night to move up to the next rank of Cub Scouting and it should be very special for them.

I also want to extend my thanks to the scouts and parents who helped with the planters on Main Street this past Saturday. Although we had a small turnout, we got them done very quickly. Also, we are taking care of the two planters on the south corner of Main & Railway Streets. If you're walking by and they look like they need watering, please try to take care of them. We just need to check them throughout the summer to make sure they stay watered (don't need to worry about that this week!).

Also, the minutes have a list of the summer activities we have planned. I will have a schedule for everyone at Advancement, but if you need the dates for scheduling, they are all in the notes. We have tried to provide enough activities each month between Pack activities and council camp activities for everyone to earn their Summertime pin this year. It would truly be exciting if we had 90+% of our boys earn this pin. They just need to attend one activity in each of the months this summer (1 in June, 1 in July and 1 in August) to earn the pin. It sure would make an exciting September Pack Meeting!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact either myself or any of the other leaders. We'd be more than happy to answer them for you.

See you at Advancement!

April 10, 2006

Just a quick update on the Friends of Scouting (FOS) Community Campaign that took place at the beginning of March. The grand total raised for the Council was $1835.00! Great job and a great big thanks to the volunteers from our community who worked hard to make this campaign a success. A special thanks to John Norrenberns who rounded up the volunteers to work the project. I have posted a list of the businesses who contributed this year on the main page of our website. Please take the time to review the list and try to make a special effort to support those businesses who have helped to support our scouting effort!

April 6, 2006

We had a very busy meeting Monday so I would recommend everyone getting the minutes and making sure you review everything.

I also like to thank the guests we had at the meeting Monday. They were visiting to meet our Committee and are going to be transferring their sons into our Pack. Their sons are all Wolf scouts and I'd like to welcome them and their parents into our Pack.

Remember, our Pack Meeting this month is in Scheve Park at the Depot. It will start at 6:30 so that we can have the Raptor Awareness Program from the World Bird Sanctuary. They will begin at 7:00.

We've got our Pack Skating Party coming up again in April. It is a Saturday evening this year as the rink was booked pretty early. The Pack is renting the rink so there will be no admission, and the Pack will pay the Basic skate rental fee for all that skate, but if you want the inline or speed skates, you will need to pay the additional $1.50. Also, we are inviting the Boy Scout and Girl Scout Troops so if you know someone in either, please pass the information along.

Don't forget to get those camp forms and fees in by April 22! It's very important so that you can take advantage of the discounts and we can plan the sessions. All of the camps are a blast so don't worry about whether you'll enjoy them - you will!. It really is some good quality time with your son away from the hustle and bustle of our fast paced lives. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call.

Advancement is right around the corner. Hard to believe the school year is this close to the end. Please set aside the 3rd Monday of May (May 15) so that you and your son can attend. It will be at the bridge in the park. I have requested that Khoury League not schedule games for that evening so that the boys are not forced to "choose" between the two, but as the schedules are not out as yet, I'm not sure how successful I have been. I'm sure that all of the coaches will be understanding if you explain to them them how important this night is for your son.

We have begun planning our summer activities as well. It would be nice if we could get a few extra parents at the May Committee meeting so that we can have some extra help and ideas. It's much easier to have a good summer program with a lot of people doing a little instead of a few people doing a lot.

March 8, 2006

First, I would like to extend my best wishes and congratulations to the boys who chose to continue their scouting experience in Boy Scouts. Our entire Webelos II Den moved crossed over this past Sunday. I am very proud of the boys, their parents for keeping this strong commitment going. There were a few moments that were almost teary-eyed as all of these boys have been with our Pack for so long but I know great things await them in Boy Scouts. I also want to thank their leader, Melinda Etling, for keeping such an exciting, educational Den program that all of her boys chose to continue. I salute you Melinda for you have helped to instill the great values of Scouting in these boys. You should be proud of what you have done as these values will help to mold and shape them as they turn into young men.

I also like to congratulate our racers for their fine representation at the St. Clair District Pinewood Derby. All three presented themselves in excellent racing condition. The races were tight and our scouts ended up in the top 50. That was pretty good considering the difference between the fastest racer and the 50th racer was only 3/10ths of a second.

We had a very busy Committee Meeting Monday. It would be nice to see a few new faces as we move toward our summer planning so if anyone would like to come next month and help us get things organized, we will meet again on the first Monday of April. We really could use some extra help.

Spring is just around the corner and that means our first Adopt-A-Block of the new year. It will be Saturday March 18 at 2:00. We will meet at the corner of 2nd and Main on the south side of the street by the car dealer. We will be cleaning 4 blocks this time from Railway to 4th Street so the more we have the quicker it will get done.

Please remember that our Pack Meetings now start at 6:30pm. Our next one is March 20 at St. Johns in the Fellowship Hall where we normally have them. I know with derby and the banquet we kind of got out of that habit, but spring is here and it's back to having some more fun. We will be covering camping information for the spring and summer so it is very important that everyone be there. I will try to have some handouts that evening and we will have the information up on our website as well. I have started putting up the information but am still missing a couple of forms so if a link doesn't work, give me until the end of the week. I should have them by then. I also am looking for 3 adults to serve as coordinators for the three main camp groups. If you are interested, please call me or send me an email.

I am also going to cover the special religious emblems that scouts can earn from their faith. These are not only a good experience for the scout, but also their families. As an added bonus, every rank of Scouting can include this in one of their requirements. As I don't know everyone's faith in the Pack, I will be discussing the emblems offered by the Roman Catholic church and those offered by the major protestant churches which include Baptist, United Church of Christ and Methodist but if anyone needs me to check on another one to be included, please let me know. If you are not sure of the emblem for your faith, you can check the site at http://www.usscouts.org/advance/cubscout/religious.html.

See you at Pack Meeting!

 February 13, 2006

I just wanted to thank everyone for a great evening last night. Although we had a couple of minor issues with running short on drinks and a few mess ups with the ceremony (sorry), I think the evening was a good time for all. I certainly hope the boys had a great time and I want to thank them for their excellent participation and behavior. Several guests commented on how nice the evening was and how surprised they were at the number of enthusiastic families they saw last night. That is a tribute to all of you in the Pack and last night made me very proud to have the honor of serving as your Cubmaster. Thank you all very much.

We also had a very successful Friends of Scouting pledge drive last night. Council had set a goal of $1300 and we received pledges of about $1800 (still waiting for the final totals). You have shown your great support for Scouting and on behalf of Okaw Valley Council I want to thank you for your generosity. God Bless you all and I look forward to seeing you at Family Game Night!

February 8, 2006

First, I want to thank Melinda Etling for putting together such a beautiful service on Scout Sunday at St. John UCC. This was truly the best Scout Sunday since Nick joined scouts 4 years ago. The scouts and leaders were an integral part of the service which was the greatest way we could show our thanks for their sponsorship. I would also like to thank the families who attended the service. I realize many of you who attended were not members of St. Johns and both I, and the church, appreciate the fact that you took the time to attend and show your thanks.

As all of you know, Blue & Gold Banquet is this Sunday. It's been rather hectic preparing and there are a few last minute details. I apologize for not posting the Cake Bake rules earlier as I thought I did it in January, but was informed tonight that I had not. Here is a link for those of you who may still be looking for them. Cake Bake Rules

The banquet will be held in the cafeteria at Holy Childhood School. We will be working on setup beginning at 1:00 so if anyone has some free time, the help would be appreciated. There will be some games and activities provided by the dens beginning at approximately 4:00. This allows the kids to get some of the energy out of their system before we sit down for the evening. We will begin gathering for dinner at 5:00 and plan to begin promptly at 5:10. Please have your cakes there by 4:45 so the guest judges can have time to see them.

We are doing things a little different than we have in years past as we are actually having it catered this year. This is a reflection on your efforts in our fundraiser which gave us some extra money so we wanted to give the parents a break. I hope you enjoy it. No need to bring any food this time (except your son's cake!).

We will also be having the musical group Eph-Pha-Tah entertaining us while we are dining and I would really like some feedback on what everyone thinks after the banquet. I got the idea from the Main Street Mascoutah Dinner last December and it really seemed to be a big hit then.

Our guest speaker will be Jim Gilbert. He is the Scout Executive for Okaw Valley Council and a great person to listen to. If you are not familiar with the title, the Scout Executive is the Top Dog that runs the entire council. He will be talking about scouting in the future and I hope that you will enjoy hearing his thoughts on where scouting is going. I know I will.

Most important of all, we will be recognizing your sons for their hard work moving along the Scouting Trail. With you, their parents, they have achieved a great milestone in their Scouting experience. I believe that we, as a Pack, will provide them with an evening of recognition and celebration in the same caliber as their achievement.

I look forward to seeing you all on Sunday and if anyone has any questions, please feel free to call or email me.

January 21, 2006

Just a quick little note to thank everyone for a fun-filled and successful Pinewood Derby this morning. With everyone's help and cooperation, it was the quickest derby I have had the pleasure of being a part of. Congratulations also to the top three winners. We wish you the best of luck when you represent our Pack in the St. Clair District races in March. We had a couple of suggestions o make things even better and we'll look to making even more improvements next year. Thanks again and I hope everyone had as much fun as I did!

January 6, 2006

I have put the Committee Minutes up from Giovanni this evening. There is a change on the date of the St. Clair District Dinner. It is Friday February 17 instead of Saturday February 18. It is at the same time and place. Reservations with a check made out to Okaw Valley Council is due by February committee meeting so that we can get the reservations turned in by the deadline on the 12th.

We still have a few scouts who have not paid their 1st semester dues. I will be sending a list to each leader so they can follow up with the families. If you have not paid them, please take care of this as soon as you can as second semester dues are due this month. If you have a financial situation that prevents you from you from paying, please speak to either Tony or myself. We, as a Pack, are willing to work with you but we cannot do that if we don't know the problem. We will keep this in strict confidence.

I did receive some updated information at Roundtable last night concerning the popcorn prizes. They believe the order form mess from the council to the prize company has been straightened out and we should receive them some time next week (the check's in the mail???). We will try to have them for distribution by Pinewood Derby.

We are working diligently on the Blue & Gold Banquet but could still use a few extra helpers. We will be having another meeting this Monday evening at 7pm on the 3rd floor at St. Johns. We need all scout families give us a count of the number of adults and number of children that will be attending so that we can give accurate numbers to the catering company. This is the first year we have had it catered and it will cost us some extra money but everyone has earned it with the great popcorn sales we have had this year. In order to do this right we need accurate numbers so I would like to ask everyone to get their reservations in to Gail no later than Pinewood Derby (January 21). Gail's number is 239-0983.

Also, Giovanni has gotten a copy of the article that appeared in the Metro East Edition of the Post-Dispatch from the Santa Parade. I have a link to it on the Home page as well as here. Thanks Giovanni!

That's about it for now. See you at the Derby!!!

January 2, 2006

I hope everyone has had a safe and happy New Year. Just a few quick notes tonight. We will be having a Blue & Gold Committee meeting this Wednesday at the American Legion Hall at 6:30. We will be looking at the facility as an option for our Blue & Gold Banquet and then have a short meeting as well.

Also, the Pinewood Derby workshop is this coming Saturday January 7. Jim & Stacie Cornman have offered to let us use their basement so we will be doing the workshop at their house. Their address is 201 East Green Street which is 3 blocks East of St. Johns on Green Street (north side of St. Johns) at the corner of Lebanon and Green. We'll be there from 9 to 11 Saturday morning. Any parents that can come and help as well would be appreciated.

Don't forget the derby is Saturday January 21. Check in time is 8:30. It will be at the Mascoutah Sportsmen's Club on Lake Road at 161.We will have setup and the parent races Friday night January 20. I'll let you know what time as soon as they tell me what time we can get in.

December 6, 2005

We covered a lot of information in a very short time at Committee Meeting last night. There are a few things things I want to point out, but I would recommend grabbing the notes from the meeting to get all of the information. I know everyone will be getting busy as we approach Christmas but right after that we'll be getting busy in scouts. We have Pinewood Derby coming up in January and Blue & Gold Banquet in February.

I would like to ask everyone to bring a snack of some sort to the December Pack Meeting. We'll try to have some social time while our special guest is visiting with the kids. We'll provide soda and coffee so nobody needs to worry about that. Also, please remember the Pack Meetings begin at 6:30 from now on.

I will be contacting some of you over this week to begin preparations for our Blue & Gold Banquet. We'll be having our first meeting next Monday at 7:00. We will need help from people in each den. It takes a lot of work to put on a successful banquet but it is also a lot of fun. Please be open to helping when you can. Right now we need to lay out our plan and get request for catering bids so we need to get moving on it. Also,

That's about it for my notes. As I said, there is a ton of information from the meeting so f you can download it, you can review it at your leisure. As always, if anyone has any questions, please call me or email me or any of the others leaders.

December 3, 2005

Just a quick little note to thank everyone who came out to the Santa Parade today. I know it was cold and there was talk of rain but it really turned out to be a pretty good day for December. Thanks Tony for helping me get the wagon to and from Culli's house. I want to give a special thanks to the leaders who helped pull the wagon. I know we had about 25 boys on there which meant better than 1200 lbs they were pulling. I also want to thank the parents who walked behind the wagon to keep an eye on the boys that wouldn't fit. Also, thank you boys and siblings for being so good riding on the wagon and walking during the parade. Finally, a special thank you to Dave & Shirley Culli who lent us the wagon to use in the parade. We couldn't have had so much fun without their generosity.

November 14, 2005

It's been a week since Committee Meeting and I am finally getting some notes up.

I know everyone is going to get busy as the holidays approach and our Pack is going to get busy as well. I'd like to thank everyone who helped distribute bags and door hangars this past Saturday for the Scouting for Food. We are planning on meeting at St. John's again this Saturday at 9:00am to pick up the food. It would be great if we could have as many kids picking up as we had distribute bags. Besides, pickup's more fun :).

Don't forget to bring your popcorn money this Saturday. Mindy needs to get it totaled and we need to get it turned in this coming week. Thanks again for all you hard work in this year's sales.

We also have an Adopt-A-Block cleanup on Sunday November 20 at 2:00. We'll meet at the corner of 2nd and Main Street. It usually doesn't take very long to pick up if we have a good number of helpers.

Monday November 21 is our Pack Meeting. Starting this month our Pack Meetings will start at 6:30 instead of 7:00. Please remember to change your schedules. Also, this month we will be meeting at the Fire Station on Railway instead of St. Johns. We need the extra space for Turkey Bowling. If you've never experienced this, it is quite fun for both the kids and adults. Also, I hope to have the sweatshirts & T-shirts there as well.

The Santa Parade is Saturday December 3rd. The parade begins at 1:00 but we need to meet at the Moose Lodge at 12:30. I have asked the den leaders to find me a parent from each den to help get ready for the parade. I hope to contact you in the coming week.

We are also starting to prepare for the Blue & Gold Banquet in February. I would like to get a Committee together right after Thanksgiving. We would like to look at some different options for food, decorations, etc. so we need to give ourselves plenty of time.

That's about it for now. Hope to see everyone this weekend and at Pack Meeting on Monday!!!

October 17, 2005

First, I would like to thank everyone for attending this evening's Pack Meeting. We had a very good turnout and it thrills me to see such enthusiasm.

Also, I would like to extend a special thanks to Jim Bunn for making a fire for the meeting. I know how busy he is and appreciate him  taking time out of his busy schedule to do this for us.

The last, and biggest thank you from the meeting, goes to the scouts and siblings who were so attentive during Mrs. Kinsella's storytelling. We have some of the best behaved children in our Pack and they always make me proud when we have special guests or when we are out at camps and activities. You, the parents, should be very proud because it is a testament to the manners that you have taught them.

As you know, this was a very special guest for me and I hope everyone enjoyed her stories as much as I did. I have added a link to her website on our Links page, if anyone is in need of contact information. Her husband is an archeologist and they have a program called "Stories 'N Stones", which is an entertaining program of stories and education. They perform this at Cahokia Mounds occasionally so if you get a chance to catch it, I'm sure you'd enjoy it.

Finally, I want to congratulate everyone on a super successful popcorn sale! I am amazed at the hard work and effort everyone has put into exceeding our goal for this year! Thanks for all of the hard work!

October 4, 2005

Before I say anything about last night's meeting, I want to congratulate and thank all of the boys, parents and leaders for such a wonderful Blitz Day. We sold over $6,400 from 28 scouts! That's awesome! Keep up the good work. I have no doubt we will make our goal with this kind of enthusiasm.

Just some reminders from last night's meeting. Popcorn orders are due on October 14. Please try to get them in on time. The kernels need to summarize everything to get it turned in to district by the 19th and that's not much time to do all of the paperwork.

Also, we will be having a professional storyteller ay our October Pack meeting so please don't forget to mark your calendars. If anyone has a fake campfire, please let me know if we could borrow it. If not, I will come up with one, but she'd like one for the atmosphere.

Also, we will probably be having our November Pack meeting at a different location due to Turkey Bowling. I'll let you know as soon as we come up with a location. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

We didn't get any volunteers to help with the float for the Christmas parade, and I know its just because no one thought to sign the Adult Volunteer Sheet. If anyone was planning on helping out, please let me know. We really could use some help with this.

We'll be taking orders for T-Shirts and sweatshirts at the October Pack meeting and then we will be placing the order. Please make sure that you get the payment to Jeff Davis by that evening so that we do not have to delay in ordering them.

September 26, 2005

First I would like to thank all of the parents and leaders who came to the Parent Meeting prior to the Pack Meeting last Monday. I appreciate the effort and I hope all of you have a better understanding of the things we have planned for the coming year. The September Pack meeting is always a little time consuming with the extra time for parents, but the rest of the year should be a blast! Thanks again.

Also the Den 5 Webelos collected additional items and their final grand total was 7,000 lbs of goods for the Katrina victims! Congratulations on a job well done.

As many of you know, the Belleville Family Practice fundraiser this past Saturday had a very light turnout. Most of the attendees were either employees of the group or members of our Pack. They were very appreciative of our help and I was very happy with the turnout from our members. They extended their thanks to us and I am passing that on to all of you. I am very pleased to say that when I ask for help from our Pack, you are ready, willing and ale to help and I am very proud of that. After covering the cost of the dunk tank (if you weren't there you missed the opportunity to dunk me), they netted about $568.00. At the suggestion of our treasurer, Jeff Davis, we obtained approval from our Committee to donate an additional $500 from our Pack bringing their total for the fundraiser to over $1,000. Belleville Family Practice, especially Greg & Laurie Climaco, put many hours into organizing this event and they did an excellent job. I would like to thank them for giving us the opportunity to be a part of the event and holding it here in our community. I would also like to extend a great thank you to the many vendors who contributed to the event.

Please remember we have Blitz Day Rally at Scheve Park this Friday at 6:00! Blitz Day and our popcorn sale begin this Saturday and I look forward to another successful year! I won't give any details away here so everyone will come to the rally! See you there!

September 23, 2005

I just wanted to extend my thanks and congratulations to the Den 5 Webelos Scouts, leaders and parents. They collected 5,280 pounds of items including clothing, toys and food that went to the Port Authority Salvation Army for Katrina Victims! Thanks to everyone who donated, helped them collect and helped them get everything to Granite City. Your efforts show the true meaning of being a scout!

Sorry, but I have a couple of corrections to the Committee Notes. The Blitz Day Rally on September 30 is at 6:00pm in Scheve Park NOT 7:00pm.

Also, the fundraiser mentioned in the notes (and below) IS Saturday September 24 NOT Friday.

Sorry that I haven't added any notes or updated the website that last month but its been very hectic at my house and getting ready for the new scout year, I would like to thank everyone who participated in both the Swim Night and the Homecoming Parade and, my favorite, the Pack Family Campout. These were both very successful events and the camp out was a blast. The Raingutter Regatta went pretty well for our first one. A special thanks to all of the leaders who helped to make the weekend so successful and fun.

We had a great turnout at Join Scouting Night! I would like to thank all of the leaders, parents and scouts who helped out that evening. I know we had a large crowd, but with your help I think we took care of everyone. So far we have 17 new scouts registered, 2 new adults and 2 additional scouts needing to turn in their information and fees. I would like to take this time to welcome all of the new families who are now a part of our Pack family. I look forward to a very fun and rewarding scouting year.

I am looking forward to our first Pack Meeting which is Monday, September 19 at 7:00. Also, I would like all parents to try to attend the Pack Parents meeting at 6:00 immediately before the Pack Meeting. I will be reviewing the program calendar and our budget for the year. This is a very important meeting so that you, as parents, have a better understanding of what makes the pack function.

I would also like to remind the new Tiger Cubs and Adult Partners that Tiger Cub Zoo Day is Saturday September 17, 2004.

Also, the Eagle Patrol (Den 5) is currently collecting clothes, stuffed animals and other items for the hurricane victims. Please contact Rod or Kim if you have things to donate or can help them transport everything after it has been collected.

Also, there will be a fundraiser in Scheve Park on Saturday September 24. It is being put on by a group of doctors and we have been asked to help out. We will be handling games for kids and maybe helping out selling hot dogs and soda and maybe some other things. Also, they are looking for musical talent that might like to perform during the day. Contact Greg Climaco if you know of anyone interested. We will be contacting adults for help in our part so please donate your time if it is available.
