Abdullah the Butcher 2001
Abdullah the Butcher will celebrate the 31st Anniversary of his first Japan tour (August 21-September 17, 1970). He, as usual, carved up opponents' foreheads with foreign objects (fork, ballpoint pen, etc.) after getting his own forehead carved up, and then he beat his opponent with a Flying Elbow Drop.
Abdullah worked for JWA from August 21, 1970 to May 15, 1972 (3 tours), Giant Baba's All Japan Pro Wrestling from December 2, 1972 to April 30, 1980 (27 tours), and Antonio Inoki's New Japan Pro Wrestling from May 8, 1981 to February 6, 1985 (11 tours). He returned to All Japan Pro Wrestling from November 21, 1981 to March 2, 1996 (36 tours), then wrestled for Tokyo Pro Wrestling from April 20, 1996 to December 7, 1996 (seven tours), Gen-ichiro Tenryu's WAR from May 5, 1997 to January 14, 1998 (seven tours), Great Kojika's Big Japan Pro Wrestling from January 2 1999 to October 30, 2000 (16 tours), and returned to Mrs. Motoko Baba's All Japan Pro Wrestling from January 28, 2001.
Larry Paul Shreve was born in downtown Windsor, Ontario, Canada (Other information that his real name is "Shreeve" and his birthday is "January 1" or "November 1" is incorrect.) He started his career as a professional wrestler as "Zelis Amara" and then took the name of "Abdullah the Butcher," billed as the "Mad Man from the Sudan," in 1958.

JWA (Nippon [Japan] Pro Wrestling) was founded by Rikidozan on July 30, 1953. JWA was the first full time professional wrestling company in Japan. Rikidozan, 39 years old, was stabbed by "yakuza" (Japanese Mafia) in a nightclub in Tokyo on December 8, 1963, and he died one week later. JWA had still enjoyed huge success with Shohei "Giant" Baba, Kanji "Antonio" Inoki, Kintaro Ohki (Kim ILL), Seiji Sakaguchi, etc., in the 1960s - 1970s and one of the strong members of the NWA (National Wrestling Alliance) in those days.
Abdullah came to Japan for the first time for JWA with Karl Heiginger (Bob Stanlee), Mr. Atomic (Clyde Stevens), Prince Pullin, Jackie Fargo, Mystery Oregon, and Gerry Monti from August 21 to September 17,1970. He had a lot of bloody feuds with the late Giant Baba, Jumbo Tsuruta, The Destroyer (Dick Beyer), Harley Race, Kintaro Ohki (Kim ILL), Dory & Terry Funk, Mil Mascaras, The Sheik, Antonio Inoki, Stan Hansen, and Bruiser Brody in Japan.

Rikidozan scouted Baba after Baba gave up as a pro baseball pitcher because of an injury. Baba debuted as a pro wrestler on September 30, 1960. Rikidozan sent him to Fred Atkins and The Great Togo, who had strong connections with powerful promoters like Fred Kohler (Chicago), Frank Tunney (Toronto), and Al Haft (Ohio), from July 1961 to 1964. It was very good for Baba to touch the heyday of The Original Nature Boy, Buddy Rogers, and get a wide view of American style pro-wrestling by facing Lou Thesz, Bruno Sammartino, Freddie Blassie, Bobo Brazil, Antonino Rocca, and many more.
