MAS Veterans 4-2 KL Veterans Football Club
Seventh Heaven

DBKL Mini Stadium KL
26 Feb 2006

Chong's hattrick proved to be the difference as MAS Veterans got the better of star-studded KL Veterans Football Club at DBKL Mini Stadium today. With the likes of Rashid Hassan, Mat Zan Mat Aris, Ramlan Askolani, Subadron Aziz, Tang Siew Seng, Chow Kwai Lam (Coach) and Tan Sri Elyas Omar (Team Manager), KL Veteran players used to represent Kuala Lumpur, and they were the kingpins of Malaysian soccer, if not the region, in the late 80's when they won the prestigious Malaysia Cup for three straight years (1987-89). Most of them also played internationally, and formed the bulk of the Malaysian national football team who won the SEA Games Gold in 1989.

Both teams were desperate to get a win under their belts, and they made their attentions clear from the start when they produced lots of chances at either end, even though the pitch was as awful as Stamford Bridge in winter. Faridzul Kassim drilled KL Veterans ahead with a unstoppable shot from outside of the box but MAS Veterans quickly equalised when Chong outfoxed Rashid Hassan and slot the ball into the empty net. MAS Veterans took the lead when Rizal headed home a Rosli's cross, but KL Veterans managed to tie the score via an unfamiliar source- Tang Siew Seng, who used to be the rock of KL defense in his heydays. MAS Veterans took the lead again when Chong raced on to a Mauzi's through pass and toe-poked the ball to the left hand corner, and he completed his hattrick ten minutes from time when he found the space on the edge of the area and let loose a screamer into the net. MAS Veterans could have even score more goals towards the end, but Kadir and Capt Nik were pretty unlucky with their efforts.

Another win for MAS Veterans - their seventh in a row for 2006!
