SROW was established in 1966 to provide factual information on women's issues through research by volunteers.
It was finally wound up in 2006. In its 40 years over 70 research projects were completed.

SROW was a founding organisation of the New Horizons for Women Trust and SROW life members retain the role of nominating trustees to the Board. The Trust's awards promote research on women's issues and support second chance education and training for women.
