SNOWBALL
September 1, 1987 to November 1, 2000
FOREVER WITH US IN SPIRIT
Below is a poem that I wrote when we first got Snowball
in November, 1987. I had just started writing poetry at
that time and it is one of my earlier pieces. I hope you
enjoy it.
SNOWBALL
We went into the pet shop
To watch the puppies there.
We like the little white one;
He looked so very scared.
We decided we would take him,
We had lots of room to share.
He needed a new master,
One who really cared.
We've had him for a while now,
Our lives we've filled with joy.
That puppy is so spoiled,
He has a dozen toys.
Each morning he does wake us
By jumping on the bed.
And if we're not real careful,
He jumps right on our heads.
If we go out and leave him
He sits right by the door.
He then lies right in front of it
And sleeps upon the floor.
When we come back home again.
He wags his tail with glee,
And I can almost see him smile,
He jumps right up on me.
And when we throw the ball to him,
He stands on his hind feet.
His low and pleading growl,
Is his way of saying please.
He'll play with us for hours
And then he'll disappear.
We'll find him sleeping soundly,
A twitching in his ear.
We couldn't be without him.
He is our closest friend.
We'll always keep him with us,
Right to the very end.

When the Vet diagnosed Snowball with having Renal Kidney
Disease, I dreaded the day I would have to take him and
have him put down. But, when that day arrived, I knew I
had to do it for him. He had been a loyal and loving
companion for 13 years. In order to keep him from
suffering, I had to do the hardest thing I think I've
ever done in my life. Still, I have no regrets. Snowball
and I shared much love, joy and laughter during his life
and he will live on forever in my heart.
I'M STILL HERE
Friend, please don't mourn for me,
I'm still here though you don't see.
I'm by your side each night and day
And in your heart I long to stay.
My body is gone but I'm still near,
I'm everything you see, feel or hear.
My spirit is free but I'll never depart,
As long as you hold me alive in your heart.
I'll never wander out of your sight.
I'm the brightest star on a summer night.
I'll never be beyond your reach.
I'm the warm, moist sand when you're at the beach.
I'm the colorful leaves when fall comes around.
And the pure white snow that blankets the ground.
I'm the beautiful flowers of which you're so fond.
The clear, cold water in a quiet pond.
I'm the first bright blossom you'd see in spring.
The first warm raindrop that April will bring.
In the first ray of light when the sun starts to shine,
And you'll see the face in the moon is mine.
When you start thinking there's no one to love you,
You can talk to me in the Heavens above you.
I'll whisper my answer through the leaves of the trees
And you'll feel my presence in the soft, summer breeze.
I'm the hot salty tears that flow when you weep,
And the beautiful dreams that come while you sleep.
I'm the smile you see on a baby's face.
Just look for me friend, I 'm every place.
