FOR MY DAUGHTER - MY LADY IN RED

Michelle, I will never forget the day you were born.  You had the largest brown eyes I had ever seen.  Your hair was almost two inches long and black as the night sky.  Your cheek had that dimple that is still there to this day and I touched it with the tip of my finger and marveled at your beauty.  God had blessed me with a beautiful daughter.
For the first year of your life, I dressed you in pinks and whites.  That was the tradition back then.  Little girls  wore pink.  When you were six months old I sat you on my knee while man landed on the moon.  Though you didn't know what was going on, I wanted you to be part of that great historical event.
Your first Christmas, your Dad and I bought you a musical ball and a red Santa suit.  We dressed you in it and you looked gorgeous.  That was the day you became my "Lady In Red."
As you grew, you loved the color red.  Do you remember that red coat and black hat with the red band on it that I bought you the year you turned sixteen?  I know you do.  You were so beautiful in that outfit and still my "Lady In Red."

Today, you are still beautiful in red.  I don't think you know how beautiful you are.  Not only outward beauty but the beauty of your heart.

You are a woman now and have been for many years.  You have two handsome sons that you should be proud of.  You are a good mother.  I know I don't often tell you but I am very proud of you.

I want you to know that I love you and throughout eternity you will always be my "Lady In Red."

FOR MY LADY IN RED

Dear Michelle,

The first time I held you,
You stole my heart -
Your eyes of brown,

Your tresses dark.

Your rosebud mouth,
Your dimpled cheek,

Your skin so soft,

Your warmth so sweet.

Before I knew it,

You were three,

But still you sat
Upon my knee.

Your hugs of joy,

Your kisses sweet,
Spontaneous giggles

Were a treat.

I turned around

You were a teen.

You were my princess,
Then my queen.

You met a boy
When you were young

You fell in love,

Then you were gone.

And now you have

Two handsome boys
That light my life

And bring me joy.

Though I don't often

Tell you so.
You're still my joy

Of long ago.

God gave me you

And took your Dad

You often missed him

And were sad.

But God left you

To  help me through

My lovely daughter
I'm proud of you.

I hear this music
And you I see,
My "Lady In Red"

You'll always be.
