Messing With Fate

Ramblin Rose

This story is AU and takes place whenever and wherever I want it to.  I change things to suit me.  I also put Conner into it now even though she wasn’t in it till later.

Naomi knew that she was dreaming but it was so real that it took her breath away.  The colors were so vivid and beautiful that she never wanted to wake up.  A man was walking up to her, a gorgeous man, and he introduced himself to her.  She smiled up at him brightly and he smiled back. Sadly, she couldn’t hear what his lips were saying.  She knew that this person was going to be with her forever.  They were soul mates. It was fate.  It was Karma.  It was Kismet. Who was Naomi to argue with the gods.  Now she just had to meet this wonderful man that would make her life complete.  Hell, she didn’t even know her life wasn’t complete until she saw this man. She would begin looking in Cascade since a few parts of the dream were in Cascade.

When Blair woke up that morning, he decided that maybe he would get the nerve up to ask Jim out on a date.  Maybe if Jim saw him as a date, it would become easier.  Right now, he only saw him as his roommate, his partner at work and the thinking professor.  Blair wanted that to all change.

While fixing breakfast the phone rang and he answered it, saying, “Sandburg.”

“Hi, Sweetie, what're you doing?” Naomi asked sweetly.

“Hi, Mom.  What are you doing in town? Or are you in town?”

“Yes, I’m in town. I was wondering if you have a place for me to sleep or do I need to stay with some friends?”

“You can have my room, Mom.  I’m so glad you’re here.  I’ve missed you.”

“Oh, Sweetie, I’ve missed you, too, and I’ve found someone to be in my life.”

“Who?”

“I don’t know his name yet, Blair.  I’ve only dreamed of him but I have his face burned into my memory.”

“Naomi, you mean you dreamed about a man and you think he’s here?”

“Oh, Sweetie, it was a strong dream that I can’t break away from.  He’s in my thoughts day and night.”

“Well, that’s great, Mom, but what if you can’t find him?  You just going to keep looking?”

“It’s fate, Blair, I have to keep looking.  We belong together.  I won’t be able to sleep right until we meet up and join.”

“Fine, but while you’re here am I going to get to spend any time with you?” Blair asked like the spoiled child he sometimes felt he was.

“Of course, Darling.  I’m going to spend all my time with you.  You were in the dreams, too, so I think it might be someone you know.  Wouldn’t that be something if it was a friend of yours?”

“Oh yeah, Naomi, that would be a real kick.” Blair answered sarcastically. “When are you going to get here?”

“I’ll be there tomorrow, Darling.  Will I get to meet your roommate?”

“Yeah, if he’s not working.  He’s a cop, Naomi.”

“A pig? Blair Jacob Sandburg, what's wrong with you?”

“Mom, he’s not a pig.  He’s a really nice guy who's been nothing but nice to me since my place blew up.”

“Well, there is that.  I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt until I feel there's something wrong with him.”

“Mom, please, don’t embarrass me.  All right?”

“Oh, sweetie, I wouldn’t embarrass you for the world.  I just want to meet this pig and see if he’s like the 60’s pigs used to be.”  With this she started laughing, knowing that her son was ready to scream at her.  “Blair, I’m just joking.  I’ll see you tomorrow, all right?”

“Fine, Mom, but I’m warning you.  Don’t mess with Jim.  He’s a busy guy and doesn’t have time for my Mom joking about pigs.”

“Don’t worry so much, Blair.  You’ll get worry lines before you’re 30.  I’ll see you tomorrow.  Goodbye.”

“Bye, Mom.”

As Blair hung the phone up, Jim came walking down the stairs and he was frowning after hearing Blair’s conversation.  He didn’t mean to eavesdrop but he couldn’t help it, being a Sentinel and all.  He was having feelings for Blair and sure as hell didn’t want his mom spending time here.  I guess I’ll have to wait till the old woman leaves, Jim thought to himself.

“Good morning, Jim.” Blair said, trying to be chipper.

“Sandburg, who was on the phone?” Jim asked slyly.

Smiling, Blair said, “It was my mom.  She’s coming for a few days and she’s going to sleep in my room.  I hope you don’t mind.  She’s really nice.  You’ll like her, Jim.  I swear.”

“Calm down.  It’s fine.  If you want to sleep on the sofa, more power to you.”

“Thanks, man.  I knew you’d understand.”

“So are you ready to go to Simon’s office.  He has an undercover assignment he wants us to take.”

“Cool, Jim.  This is exactly what I wanted to do.  I want them to trust me to do undercover work with you.”

“Well, you got your wish.  It’s a car theft ring. They only deal in really nice cars. We have a suspect in custody now.”

As they ate breakfast and got ready for work, there was little talk.  Jim knew that Blair was anxious about his mom coming and he wasn’t sure why.  He might have to check out this Naomi.

As they walked out the door, Blair said, “I’ll follow you in.  I have to take my own car so I can come home after the meeting with Simon.  I need to get my room ready for Mom.”

“Fine, Sandburg.  As long as you’re at the station like you said you’d be.”

“Don’t worry man, I’ll meet you there, Jim.”

When they got to the station, they went into Simon’s office to talk about the assignment.  Simon said, “Jim, I need you and Rafe to pose as a couple at a party tonight.  Sandburg, you’ll be Conner’s date.”

Blair glared at Simon and Simon was trying to figure out why he was getting a dirty look.  “Sandburg, you have something to add?”

“No, sir.  Whatever you decide on is fine with me. I’ll meet Conner tonight then.”

Blair left the station mighty pissed off but knew that he had to do what Simon said if he wanted to continue being Jim’s ride-along.  He headed to the loft so he could get the room ready for his mom.  He really had to stop being such a pig so it wouldn’t be so hard to get ready for someone’s visit.  He vowed to keep his room cleaner from this day on.  Yeah, right, Sandburg, he thought to himself.

After cleaning his room and making some great food, he got ready for his date/undercover assignment.  Megan Conner was going to pick him up at 7:00 that night.  Blair was still waiting for his mom to get there when Jim came down the stairs ready for his date/undercover assignment with Rafe.  Jim looked gorgeous.  Blair couldn’t take his eyes off him.  Jim, turning to Blair said, “Chief, do you think I’ll pass as someone that Rafe would date?”

“Jim, you’d pass as someone anyone would date.” Blair said in all honesty.

“Thanks, Chief.  I was a little nervous about this whole assignment.”

“No need to be.  You look great and I’m sure it’ll go well. Now let's get out of here.”

“What about your mom, Sandburg?”

“Well, she’s late as usual, so I’ll leave a note saying that we’ll be back later and to get the key from Mrs. Miller next door.  I stopped by and gave her our key, just in case.  I told her all about my mom so she wouldn’t give the key to a stranger.”

“Okay, Partner, let's get out of here.”

When they got downstairs, Megan was waiting for Blair and Rafe was waiting for Jim.  Jim got into Rafe’s car and smiled when Rafe stared open mouthed at Jim.  “You’re going to catch fly's, Rafe.” Both men started laughing.

“Ellison, I had no idea you cleaned up that nice.” Rafe said jokingly.

Blair stepped into Conner’s car and she whistled and said, “you look good enough to eat.  Oh sorry.  Didn’t mean that the way it sounded.”

Blair laughed and said, “Did you see how great Jim looked, Megan?”

Frowning, she said, “Yes, he looked great, Sandy. How about me?  Will I pass?”

“Oh, I’m sorry, Megan.  You look beautiful.  You’re always beautiful, that’s why it slipped my mind.  We might have fun tonight.  Do you like dancing?”

“You really think I’m beautiful?” Megan asked, stunned.

“Hell, yeah, you're gorgeous.  Everyone thinks so, Megan.”

Feeling much better about the evening she smiled and said, “so, Sandy, how long have you had a thing for Jim?”

“Oh Jesus, please tell me that everyone doesn’t know.”

“No, everyone doesn’t know, Sandy, because they aren’t looking.  I watch what you do and say.  And I see it in everything that you do.”

“I want him so bad it’s not even funny but I know that he’s not into men.  I think I would've noticed by now.”

“Well, I think you’d be surprised.  I’ve seen him watch your ass, Sandy.”

“You’re shitting me, right?  You’re having one over on me, I bet.”

“No, I’m very serious.  But if you know what’s good for you, you’ll ask him to dance tonight because I happen to know that Rafe has a thing for Ellison, too.”

“Well, shit, it’s not fair.  Simon put him in as Jim’s date.  Man, I don’t think it was meant to be for us.”

“You’re not giving up already, Sandy.  I won’t stand for it.  I’ll dance all night with Rafe, Simon will never know.  You ask to dance with Jim first and try not to get him too hot and bothered, you hear?”

“Thanks, Megan.  You’re a good friend.”

“No problem, Sandy, you’re the best.  I want to see you happy.”

They talked about the case all the rest of the way, with Blair happier than he’d been in ages.  As they walked into the bar, Blair saw Jim standing with Rafe and saw Rafe move in closer to Jim almost in a hug.  Blair was so jealous that he saw Jim stare at him.  He knew that Jim probably picked up the difference in his heartbeat.  Jesus, Sandburg, get a grip.  You have to stay in control.

Megan looked over at Blair and saw the sad look on his face and said, “I’m going to ask Rafe to dance. You ask Jim. It’s now or never, Sandy.”

Conner walked up to Rafe and took his hand off of Jim and said, “would you like to dance?” Conner didn’t give him a chance to answer as she pulled him into her arms and they were off.  Blair almost laughed but decided that it wouldn’t be too professional.  He walked up to Jim and said, “wanna dance, man?”

Jim looked at Blair with a shy look and said, “sure, Chief.  I’d love to.” Blair grabbed Jim’s hand and pulled him out to the dance floor. Not letting go for a second once they got there, Jim pulled Blair into his arms and said, “comfy, Chief?”

“Oh yeah, this feels nice.” Blair said with a tone that Jim had never heard in his guide's voice before.  Jim looked down and smiled and said, “Chief, do you wanna explain what the hell's going on?”

“Nothing's going on, Jim.  I just felt like changing the rotation a little.  That’s all.  Why?  Is it bothering you to have to dance with me.”

“Chief, you know better than to even ask that but you seemed mad at Rafe a few moments ago and I wondered what that was about.”

Reaching up, Blair pulled Jim down to his lips and they kissed for the first time.  Jim was surprised but liked the feeling a great deal.  They stopped dancing for a few moments and just kissed.  Rafe looked over at them and said, “damn, I knew Ellison would be easy.”  Conner started laughing and said, “shut up, Rafe and dance with me again.”

“Chief, Rafe just called me easy. Will you think less of me now?”

“Jim, the only thing I want to do is get off this assignment and have you fuck me senseless.  What do you think of that?”

Jim grabbed Blair and pulled him off the dance floor and they walked into the restroom.  He pushed Blair up against the wall and shoved their cocks together and Blair was having a hard time breathing and not making a lot of noise.  “Chief, I want you so bad.  I want you in my bed.  Do you think we could wait till then?”

“I suppose if we have to, but I’m almost there. I just thought I’d let you know in case you were wondering how close I was.” Blair said smiling evilly at Jim.

Jim moved his hand over Blair’s cock and started rubbing him up and down in gentle but yet firm strokes and Blair was getting closer and closer.  “Come for me, Blair.  Right now, come for me.”

“Jim, I don’t want to come in my jeans, I’ll be gooey all night long.” Jim was down on his knees in two seconds flat.  He opened up Blair’s jeans, took his cock into his mouth, sucked three times and Blair came into Jim’s mouth. Jim just as quickly got up, put Blair’s spent cock into his jeans and zipped him up.  As soon as he did a man walked into the restroom and started making conversation with Jim.  Jim answered him as best as he could since he was still trying to get himself under control. Blair glanced down and saw that Jim was hard as a rock.  Hot damn, I’m going to suck him off next. Blair thought to himself.  If this man ever leaves.

The man came closer to Jim and rubbed his hand across Jim’s hard cock and said, “What do you think?  Want to take this somewhere more private?”

Jim looked at him and said, “Yeah, why not?”

Blair just stood there with his mouth hanging open, as Jim and the man walked out of the restroom and out of the bar.  Megan, Rafe and Blair all met up and went to find out where Jim was.  They saw him get into a truck with this man and Rafe got the license number.  Then they all piled into Conner’s car and took off after the truck.  “I’m going to kick his ass for doing this.” Blair said to himself more than anyone else.

“Sandburg, he’s doing his job.” Rafe said, irritated at Blair.

“No, we weren't supposed to separate.  Remember how Simon said not to?” Blair asked him.

“Well, he knew that we were right there with him. So, I’m sure he knew he was fine.” Rafe continued.  “It’s not like he belongs to you, Sandburg.”

Blair turned to Rafe and said, “fuck you, Rafe.  He’s not yours, either.”

“All right, mates.  Stop this right now.” Conner said calmly.  “Let's just concentrate on finding him and finish this job.”

They saw them pull into a hotel and Blair said, “well, what're we doing out here?”

“Sandy, we have to wait for a sign.” Conner said.  “We can’t just go waltzing in on them and make it stick.  He has to do something to or towards Jim first.”

Blair started pacing in the parking lot.  “Sandburg, you’re going to draw attention to yourself and blow the whole case.”

As that was said, the door to the hotel room opened up and Jim was fighting the man that had taken him in there.  They were both naked.  Blair asked, “is that enough to go on or do we have to wait some more?”

Both Rafe and Conner glared at him as they all made a run for Jim and the unknown man.  Rafe got him off Jim and cuffed him as Jim was totally out of it.  “Ellison, what did he do to you?  What did he give you?”

“Nothing, I didn’t drink anything.  I took a mint from him but that was it.” Jim said.

Jim couldn’t see clearly but he did see Blair and said, “Chief, take me home, okay?”

Rafe and Conner stared at each other and Conner said, “Sandy, we need to have a doctor draw blood and check him out at the hospital first.  Then you can take him home.”

Blair got Jim dressed and couldn’t miss the beautiful full cock that Jim was sporting.  Blair couldn’t wait till it was for him.  Jim looked sadly at Blair and said, “I’d never do anything with someone else, Blair.  Only you, babe, only you.”

Rafe looked at Conner and said, “must be the drugs making him nuts.  Jim would never say something like that.”

“Yes, I would, Rafe.  I’m drugged but I love Blair.”

“Jim, let's get you up to the hospital and then you can go home. How’s that?” Conner asked.

When they got him to the hospital, the doctor said Jim had to stay the night, no arguments.  So, Blair told Jim he’d stay with him.  Conner and Rafe went back to the station to fill out the dreaded paper work and left Blair to keep Jim happy.

When everyone left the room, Jim said, “Chief, will you lay here with me?  I need to have you close?”

“Jim, I think we better not do that here.”

“Chief, please, I need you so badly.  Please?”

“Jim, I think you’re not thinking clearly and I want you thinking right.”

“I was thinking fine when I sucked your cock in the restroom tonight, why's this any different?”

“It isn’t, I just didn’t know you remembered that.” Blair said with his head hanging down.

“Blair, I remember the entire thing.  I can’t wait to taste you again, but right now, I’d like something done here.”

Blair glanced over and could see his cock sticking up under the covers of the bed.  He walked over and locked the door and climbed into bed with Jim, taking off his clothing as he did. Once he was naked, he slipped on top of Jim and started rubbing their cocks together.  Jim was moaning so loud that he knew that someone would be coming in to check, so he kissed the moans right out of Jim’s mouth.  Jim pushed Blair’s ass until they were even closer together and came with a scream into Blair’s mouth.  Blair followed right behind.  Jim started kissing Blair like there was no end to his appetite and Blair felt him getting hard once again.  “Jim, I think that was enough for now.  You need to rest.”

“Blair, I want you so bad, please fuck me.” Jim begged and Blair was at a loss.  He didn’t know what to say.  He knew he couldn’t fuck his partner, his roommate and friend, because he wouldn’t hurt him for the world and there were no supplies here at the hospital.  So, he got on top of him and did the very same thing again and Jim came again and so did Blair.

Four times later, Blair was exhausted and Jim was tiring... finally.  Thank god, Blair thought, I don’t think I could get it up one more time.

Blair washed Jim off and told him he loved him.  Jim kissed him hard and said, “Blair, just you and me, right?”

“Yes, Jim.  Just you and me.” Blair said as they both fell into a wonderful sleep.

When Jim woke up in the morning, he was alone and was going to panic but saw a note on the pillow for him.

Dear Jim,

I had to go and check on my mom.  I’ll be back this morning with some breakfast and your truck to pick you up.  The doctor said you get to go home today. I’ll see you in a little while.  I love you.

Blair.

Jim smiled as he read the note.  He rang for the nurse and asked if he could take a shower.  She brought him some scrubs to wear until Blair got there with his fresh things.  Getting into the shower, he smiled to himself at how great it was going with Blair.  He was totally in love and couldn’t be happier.  As he finished his shower, he shaved and got dressed and tried to be patient as he waited for Blair to come and pick him up.  Jim looked at his watch and saw that it was already almost noon.  The more time he sat there the more he was getting pissed off.  Blair knew how bad he wanted to go home, why was he taking so long?  Oh god, what if something happened to him, thought Jim.  I would never forgive myself for the nasty thoughts I just had.

All of a sudden he heard his guide’s heartbeat and was instantly calm.  Blair did that for and to him.  Smiling, he sat down on the edge of the bed waiting for his life to come through the door.  But instead of just Blair, there was a woman with him.  A very pretty woman but not Blair’s type at all.  What the fuck? I don’t want anyone to be his type anymore, Jim thought.

Smiling, Blair walked in and said, “Jim, this is Naomi, my mom.” Then Blair turned to his mom to say something and saw the look on her face.

She said, “Blair, he’s the one.  He's it.  He’s my fate.  I’ve come home.”  She walked to Jim and kissed him passionately.  Jim just sat there, not knowing what to do or say.  Blair was standing there with his mouth opening and closing again.  He was, for the first time in life, speechless.

“Jim, I knew it was someone that Blair knew, I just didn’t know who.  But when I saw the loft last night I had a feeling that I’d found my fate.” Naomi said, smiling at Jim.

“Naomi, right?” Jim asked.  “I’m trying not to freak out here, but you're too late.  I’m not interested in dating anyone at this time.  Sorry.”

“You don’t understand, Jim.” Naomi said.  “We have no control over this.  Our fate has been chosen.  Just as you and Blair are friends, so shall we be.”

“Chief, explain things to her.” Jim begged from the bed.

“What is it, Sweetie?  You don’t want me to be with Jim?  You want him to be with someone younger or something?  What's the problem?” Naomi asked quickly.

“Actually, Naomi, I’ve been seeing Jim.” Blair finally managed to get out.

“Seeing?” Naomi asked, “what do you mean, seeing?”

“As in fucking, Naomi, don’t act like you don’t understand.” Blair whined to her.

“Blair, you can’t stand in the way of fate.  This was meant to be.  I dreamed him.  I have to have him.” his mother said as she stood firmly next to the door of the room.

“Well, you know what, Mom?” Blair asked.  “You don’t always get everything you want.  I love him and he loves me.”

“Okay, let's call a time out here and we’ll talk about all this when we get back to the loft.” Jim said calmly.

“No way, man!  She’s not staying with us now.” Blair objected loudly.

“Blair Jacob Sandburg, you'd better take all that back right now.” protested Naomi.

“Mom, you can’t order me around now.  I’m a grown man.” Blair moaned as he grabbed his head suddenly.

“Chief, what’s wrong?” Jim asked.

“Headache, Jim.  Really, really bad.” Blair complained.

“Okay, let's get out of here and we’ll discuss this at the loft.” Jim said as he helped Blair up and out of the room.  Naomi was frowning as she watched the two men and how close they were.

The drive home was quiet as no one said one word.  Naomi drove since Blair’s headache had gotten worse and the doctor had told Jim not to drive for two days.  She watched in the rear view mirror and saw the love that Jim was showing towards her son and realized that she must have gotten the dream wrong somehow. She would set this all right once they got to the loft.

When they walked into the loft, Jim said, “Blair, go on up to bed and I’ll be up in a minute to rub your temples and relax you.”

Blair walked up the stairs with such sadness it was breaking Jim’s heart.  Turning to Naomi he said, “I think that maybe it would be best if you stayed in a hotel.  I’ll get you one.”

“Jim, it’s all right.  I see now that I made a big mistake.  You could never love me the way you love him.  I saw it in both of your eyes.”

“Do you mean that, Naomi? Because I can’t have you upsetting Blair like that.”

“I mean it.  I thought it was fate for me but it must have been for him.  I read it wrong.”

“Would you please go up and talk to him?”

“Yes, I’ll do it now.  I’ll be down later.”  Naomi went up the stairs and talked to Blair for about an hour and rubbed his temples.  Jim walked up the stairs and said, “Naomi, I’ll take over now.  I’d like to rest with Blair.”

“Okay, I’ll be downstairs making dinner for us all.  You two just rest and relax.”  She bent over and kissed Blair’s cheek and then as she got up she kissed Jim on the cheek, also.

“Thanks, Naomi,” Jim said as he crawled into bed with his life mate.  He knew that things would work out and they would have a nice visit with Naomi.  He smiled down at Blair and Blair pulled him down for more than a smile.  He kissed Jim with such passion that Jim forgot that there was anyone in the house and they made love, very actively and loudly.  Not on purpose, they both got caught up in the moment.  Naomi stood downstairs and smiled as she was hearing what was going on.  Yes, this was fate, just not hers.

The end.
