| In October 1982 my friend Colette gave me my most treasured item.Over the years, this gift has comforted me, questioned me, and lifted my soul in turn. I seek its wisdom time and time again. If you have not guessed, it is a book, by now, dog-eared, with loose pages and a spine barely holding it together. The title? The Prophet, By Kahlil Gibran. I quote from the inscription that Colette wrote, "For what was, What is, And what will be" Thank you for being you.. I extend this inscription to my friends, you know who you are, and I thank you for your love, loyalty, trust, and the times you speak honestly to me, and let me hear things about myself that maybe I don't want to know.. I quote from my favourite book... "And let your best be for your friend. If he must know the ebb of your tide, let him know its floods also. For what is your friend that you should seek him with hours to kill? Seek him always with hours to live. For it is his to fill your need, but not your emptiness. And in the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures. For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed." |
