| Easy to Lose Hope |
| A few years ago in Dublin lived a crime reporter called Veronica Guerin. She was fearless. She was married with a young son. Her reporting took on and exposed that crime was paying in and on the streets of Dublin and that the Gardai were powerless to act against these growing crimelords. It took the cowardly assassination of this woman while stopped at a set of traffic lights to make this, my country quake, and stand up and say enough! By her death, the laws in this country changed and today we have a Garda force that takes on and wins against these cowardly but dangerous people. This song was and is dedicated to Veronica. Easy to Lose Hope My home town's dear to me, It's always in my sight But my city's shadows walk around in broadlight They will even shoot a woman down for what she writes So now you pay for civil liberty with life. So hard it's easy to lose hope for everyone So hard it is easier to never take it on But we can't give up And we can't lose hope And we cannot hide away We can overcome And we must not be afraid You must not ever stop the search for peace within 'Cause if you find it, there is no better prize to win In losing peace of mind you're losing everything Don't draw away from it whatever shape you are in With all our songs and stories we have brushed aside The very nature of the beast we tried to hide With all the ugliness this city has to fight How could we leave it to a mother and a wife? |
