Syd

Sydney is 11 years old and very serious about her riding. She learned to ride starting at the age of 5 on lots of different ponies. When she came to me, she had lots of 'stick on' experience, so I set about to put the polish on her.

Syd says of her experiences here: "When I first met Mary, I didn't trust any horses (from riding naughty ponies). My position was horrible and my hands were worse!. But now, because of Mary's help I have excellent balance and can trust my horse." She goes on to explain..."I also understand why we and our horses do the things we do! It's so much easier when you realize those things. I've made lots of progress, and hope to continue riding Fique, learning...and winning!"

She has been riding with me for about two years now. She leases Fique, our Senior Citizen, and showed him lightly last summer. She started at Walk/Trot, and at every show she traded in her easiest test for one of greater difficulty. She and Fique ended up winning almost every class they entered! She also took home the Equitation Champion or Reserve ribbon for the Junior Divisions for almost every outing.

Syd has set her sights on First Level for this year. She's currently learning more about things like Leg-Yield, halts from the trot, lengthing her strides and the communication that must go along with riding a horse at a higher level of difficulty.

She's a very willing student with a great desire to learn and lots of talent to go along with it!
