Sonata is a 9 year old 14.2 Morgan mare. She is owned by me,Ann Ma, and bred by Sugarlane Farms. I bought Sonata in July of 1999 intending to go the Morgan circuit route before focusing on Dressage. I trained and worked with a Morgan trainer for approximately 2 and half years, and showed successfully on the Morgan circuit. Then things got a little busy for me, and Sonata needed to be moved closer to home. It was then that I switched to Dressage. I was going to do it eventually, why not now? So, in January of 2002 I moved my horse, and found Mary.
Mary has been completely amazing. Some problems that I had with my horse since I bought her were going way too fast, not being able to use my legs on her beyond "GO!", spooking at the slightest thing, not being able to bend her, and her overall concentration. In about a month and a half Mary helped me to develop a steady pace, stretch Sonata through her back, and get her more soft and supple. Most importantly, she helped me to understand why my horse was spooking at everything, AND how to deal with it. She's also helped me with my seat and overall position. I used to ride hunter/jumpers. So, I had to get used to lengthening my legs, and as Mary says, "Your horse is not a chair!". So I don't sit on my horse like she's a chair anymore. ;-) Mary doesn't just tell you what to do, or train your horse FOR you. She explains why a horse behaves a certain way, or how a horse physically can or can't do things. You get a COMPLETE lesson from her.
