“Cat? Cat, honey are you all right? Breangwen’s mother just called me and told me what happened at Joey’s last night.” Her mother spoke from the doorframe of her daughter’s bedroom. Cat lay in her bed, curled under the blankets, making small sniffling sounds. “Honey?” Her mother moved to lift all the used tissues off her floor and cleaned her room a tad. “Would you like some Mood Mender Tea?” “Yes please.” “A scone?” “Yes please.” “I’ll be back in a bit.” Cat nodded and blew her nose again, dropping the tissue into the massive garbage bag beside her bed.

“Bosco, what happened to you?” Yokas asked as her partner walked into the locker room. He had a shiner and a few bruises elsewhere from the fight. Bosco cleared his throat some as he opened his locker to change, “Got into a fight last night.” “With who?” Yokas raised a brow as she shut her locker door. “It’s no one. It’s not important.” “Did you go after Cat last night?” “Who told you?” “Her cousin was here ten minutes ago, telling Swersky about it.” “Shit.” He rubbed his forehead. “You’re lucky he’s decided against pressing charges for last night. You’ll be even luckier if Cat speaks with you in the next few days.” Yokas moved to go to roll call. Bosco followed after he had changed into uniform.

“So, he showed up at Joey’s last night and caused a scene?” Her mother asked as she brushed her hair. Cat sighed and nodded, “Yes he did. This turned into a fight that Breangwen broke up.” “So, where did you spend the night last night?” “Erika’s, I know she was keeping an eye on me all night.” “Well, who wouldn’t want to dearest? He must have upset you enough if you’re like this even now. You just got home an hour ago and you jumped right into bed with you tissue box.” Cat sighed more as she sipped her tea, having finished her scone then sat back. “This is very true mom. I don’t know why I even told his mom where I was going…” “Because even if you didn’t, he would have come here to ask me and I was out at Bingo night with the ladies.” “Oh, right. I had forgotten about that a while back.” Her mother nodded and stood. “Something came in the mail for you yesterday. Let me go get it for you.” “Okay.”

Soon her mother returned with two packages, one shaped like an amplifier and the other shaped like a guitar. “Here you go honey.” “Thanks mom.” Cat slowly opened them and sighed a bit, “Finally. My amp and my Fender Strat.” Running a hand through her hair she sat up a bit. “I’m going to get started on lunch, okay?” Cat nodded as she carefully plugged the amplifier into the wall and then plugged her Fender Strat into the amplifier. Moving towards her desk, she moved her mouse to open a file with some songs she had wanted to try out. They were all by SwitchFoot, some were new and some were old. Printing out the sheet music, Cat moved towards a secluded corner of her bedroom and sat with her back to the wall. Carefully playing the notes a few times over before singing a smidge to her whilst playing.

Life and love and why
Child, adult, then die
All of your hoping
and all of your searching
for what?
Ask me for what am I living
Or what gives me strength
That I'm willing to die for

Take away from me
This monstrosity
'Cause my futile thinking's
Not gonna solve nothing tonight
Ask me for what am I living
Or what gives me strength
That I'm willing to die for

Could it be this
Could this be bliss
Could it be all that
I ever had missed
Could it be true
Can life be new
And can I be used
Can I be used

“Cat! Lunch is Ready!” Her mother called from the kitchen as she was setting the table. “Okay! Be there in a minute, Mom!” Cat slowly stood up and went to eat her lunch. Then returned to her bedroom to practice some more. While Cat was doing that, she moved a bit and opened her window to hear sirens outside and turned up the volume. At the same time, her mother had let Breangwen inside the apartment to watch Cat until she got back from shopping. Breangwen sat outside her cousin’s doorframe and just watched her play.

Come back and haunt me
Follow me home
Give me a motive
Swallow me whole

They way I've lost it
What could I know
When I'm but a mockery?
I'm so alone

Sooner of later you'll find out
There's a hole in the wall

“Hey Cat.” Cat looked up at Breangwen as she put her guitar beside the wall and stood. “When’d you get here?” “Your mom let me in; she went to get some stuff.” “Oh, well…how’s Joey doing?” “He’ll be all right.  Just a few bruises, nothing serious although I told him what Bosco probably looked like today when he went to work…so..” “Did that make him feel any better?” A smoothly inserted snide remark from Cat as she moved to leave her bedroom and go to the kitchen for a snack. “Well, he didn’t say but from his roaring laughter over the receiver I’m going to say yes. Why? What’s the matter?” “Nothing, really nothing. Seriously, it’s not important at the moment.” “You sure?” “Yes, I am. Just leave me alone about it…okay? I don’t feel like talking about it…at all and let me avoid it if I can.”  Suddenly there was a loud knock at the door; Cat looked at Breangwen who moved towards the door. “Who is it?” “Bosco. Is Cat there?” “Lemme check.” Breangwen turned to Cat who moved towards the door and opened a smidge. “What do you want Bosco? Hey Faith.” “Hey Cat. I told him this was a bad idea but he…” “Never listens to reason, I’ve caught onto that.” Cat’s eyes glared at Bosco. “I think it should be quite clear that for the next week and a half you need to stay as far away as possible from me. Especially after last night and if you even suggest talking about it I will hurt you. Bye.” Cat shut the door in his face and locked it. “I told you.” Faith said to him as they walked back to the RMP. “You okay, Cat?” “Yeah, I’m fine. Excuse me.” Cat moved back to her bedroom and began to play once more.

Only the losers win
they've got nothing to prove
They'll leave the world with nothing to lose
You can laugh at the weirdos now
Wait till wrongs are right
They'll be the ones with nothing to hide

'Cause I've been thinking, thinking
I've got a plan to lose it all
I've got a contract pending on eternity
If I haven't already given it away
I've got a plan to lose it all

I've been the burnout kid
I've been the idiot
I'll turn the other cheek to be hit
You can take what you want from me
Empty me till I'm depleted
I'll be around if I'm ever needed
