"Confusion: All in the Family"
A Bosco and Cat Tale
By: Mary Moule
"Hey Cat! Guess
what!" Cat heard her cousin call from downstairs; she was staying with her
while her mom was out of town. "What Breangwen?" She moved from her
room, dressed in a All American Rejects © shirt, a mini skirt that was the size
of a napkin, dominatrix boots, and her hair pinned back.
"I was at the hospital, getting a shot for something. Secondary influenza
shot for precautions. Guess what I heard." Breangwen smiled as Cat
shrugged her shoulders. "Your friendly cop, Officer Boscorelli’s mother.
Angela Rose Boscorelli was brought in for being beat up by some guy she was
dating." Cat tilted her head. "And that matters HOW?" Breangwen
sashayed up the stairs and leaned on the beam next to her cousin. "Woman,
when you came back from whatever it was you were doing that night at the
party…well…you SMELLED like him." ‘I what? Excuse me?" Cat’s
eyes narrowed and her arms crossed her chest. "He breezed by me and I knew
I smelled his scent before. You slept with him at the party." Cat growled
and pushed Breangwen away. "Screw you, Brean. Screw you." She grabbed
her coat and headed out. "Cat! Where you going?!" Brean screamed
after her blonde haired cousin. "To work! Even if ma’s out of town I still
have to be there to close up shop and such. I’ll see you at 8." She left
in a huff, sitting behind her mother’s desk.
Erika, Breangwen’s
best friend…well…one of them walked into the CoffeeShop. "Hi. I’m looking
for Cat Smyth. Is she here?" "Yeah, whom may I say is asking?"
"Erika McCannon." Cregen nodded and left to go get Cat. She emerged
from her mother’s office. "Erika, what’s up?" "Can we
talk?" "Here on `motherly` business I suspect?" "Yes."
"Follow me. Cregen if you need any help just ring me in the office.
Okay?" "Okay Cat." Erika followed Cat back into the office and
sat down in the chair next to the desk. Cat leaned back as she worked on the
books some for her mother. "Since you came here on your own…at least
that’s the storm you’re putting up. Unless Breangwen sent you here because I
blew up at her. Am I right?" Cat raised one eyebrow at Erika from the book
as she flipped a page. Erika sighed, "Look. You need to understand she’s
just trying to protect you. She does that a lot these days. She’s looking out
for everyone. Kimmie, Micah JoJo BabyBoy you and Myself. She’s just being her,
everything she does serves a purpose." "Uh huh. Like her telling me
what she knew? Like she really does care? Erika, if she cared she would
have told my mom before telling ME." Cat leaned forward; head
tilted to the left a tad. "Do me a favor and let her know I’ll be home
later than that. I have errands to run. You can go now." "Okay."
Erika got up and left.
Later that night,
after she closed up the shop and deposited the money in the bank. Cat wandered
over to Angel of Mercy Hospital, walking up towards the nurses’ station.
"Can I help you?" Cat brushed the blonde hair out of her eyes and
nodded. "I’m here to see a Angela Rose Boscorelli? Is she still
here?" "Yes, she is. Stay right here. I’ll tell her." The nurse
wandered off, Cat put her hands in her jacket pockets as she waited. Kicking
the floor. "She’ll see you now." Cat turned to where the nurse was
and wandered into the exam room. "Thank you. Can you do me a favor? Buzz
the room incase she get’s any other visitors?" The nurse nodded and shut
the door behind Cat. Cat’s ice blue eyes looked upon the woman who sat up in
the hospital bed.
"The nurse said
I had a visitor, do I know you honey?" Rose asked Cat, moving some hair
out of her face and winced a bit. "Uh, no. No you don’t ma’am…but I know
your son. Officer Boscorelli." "You know Maurice?" Cat paused
for a moment and stayed in the shadows. "Yeah, I do. My cousin was here
earlier and told me about what had happened so I figured you could use another
visitor besides your son." Rose smiled and patted the chair next to her
bed. "Have a seat then kiddo." "Thanks." Cat moved and sat
down, Rose looked at her outfit. "Rather chilly to be wearing that. Isn’t
it?" "Hmm?" Cat looked down at her outfit, then shrugged.
"I don’t have a lot of winter stuff at my cousin’s. Mostly at my mom’s but
she’s out of town for a spell." "Oh? What does your mother do?"
"She owns Sal’s CoffeeShop on 108th." Cat nodded. "Who did this
to you? Unless you feel uncomfortable talking about it with a total
stranger." "No, it’s okay. Um, the guy I’m dating did this to me. Oh
boy Maurice is going to throw a fit when I tell him." "I’ll
bet." Cat smiled some. "Where are my manners. My name’s
Catrina…everyone calls me Cat though." Rose nodded as the room was buzzed
and she picked up. "It’s the nurse. She says my son’s coming to see
me." Cat slowly stood up and moved towards the door. "I need to get
going. I have to be at work in another six hours." She moved and lightly
hugged Rose. "It was nice meeting you Miss Boscorelli. Get better, all
right?" "I will. Oh, should I tell my son you stopped by?"
"Uh, yeah. Sure." Cat moved to leave, grabbing a taxi back to Brean’s
and showered then got right into bed.
Bosco walked into
his mother’s hospital room. "Hey Ma." "Hi Maurice. I had a
visitor earlier." "Oh yeah? Who?" "Some girl, rather cute
one she was. Goes by the name of Cat. Says she knows you." Bosco raised a
brow. "Huh. Fancy that. I just busted her like a week ago for breaking her
parole agreement." "She didn’t look that dangerous to me. She said
she was staying with her cousin while her mother was out of town."
"As playful and as harmless as a de-clawed kitten she is." His mother
smiled. "You look tired. You should go home." "I will. Night
Ma." Bosco left after his visit, but didn’t go home. He went back to the
5-5 station house and pulled up Cat’s rap sheet, also finding out where
Breangwen lived and then drove over there.
KNOCK! KNOCK!
KNOCK! Cat heard the knocking and
moved out of her room to answer the damn door. Dressed in an `I Heart
policemen` shirt and sweats, she moved down the stairs and to the door.
"Who in the hell bothers people at
