“Confusion”
A Bosco and Cat tale
By: Mary Moule
“Beg Pardon?” Cat
stood behind the holding cell in the 5-5 House, arms dangled on the bars that
lay vertically along it. She shifted a bit as she watched Yokas and Bosco move
across the room from her.
“Your Cousin can’t make it until the morning. So, you’re going to have to sit
tight tonight.” Faith told her as she filled out the rest of the
paperwork.
Cat rolled her eyes
and then shook her head, muttering under her breath. ‘Brean’s probably to busy
with her boyfriend. That’s why.’ She said mockingly and moved to sit down. Her
eyes narrowed into slits as Bosco walked over, rattling the cell bars a
bit.
“Not like she has
anywhere to go anyway, Yokas.” He gave a sly smirk as Cat growled at him.
“Don’t you have someone else to harass tonight, Officer Boscorelli?” Bosco
looked at his watch and shook his head. “Nope, shift’s almost over.” He
grinned.
“Bosco.” Faith
looked at him, raising a brow. “All right, all right.” He stepped away from the
cell and went to go change into his civvies. Faith stood up, paperwork in hand.
“Come on. I’ll bring you downstairs into another cell.” She unlocked the door
and Cat walked out, following her down the stairs to the front desk as she gave
Swersky the paperwork and went to put Cat in another cell for the night.
Cat kicked the
ground, rubbing her wrists that had marks on them. Obvious that Bosco had
cuffed her tight. She ran water over the wounds and laid down on the bunkbed.
Not falling asleep in this place, it wasn’t safe.
The next afternoon,
around four Breangwen came walking into the precinct. Swersky looked up from
the front desk. “Can I help you Miss?” Brean walked up to the desk and leaned
against it. “Yes, you can. I’m here to bail out my cousin. Cat Smyth.” He
nodded. “Bailbonds men is upstairs, I’ll have an office retrieve her for you.”
“Thanks.” Breangwen headed upstairs, fishing the check out of her pocket. She
had more than enough money to bail her cousin out. The man took her check and
cashed it right there. Cat was free to go Breangwen pushed her out to the car.
“Your mom is going to have a fit when she hears you broke your parole
agreement.” “They’ll put me under house arrest. First violation procedure, I
read the agreement before I signed it.” Cat climbed into the car and buckled
up. Breangwen drove Cat to her mother’s coffee shop in MidTown. “Have fun at
work.” Breangwen said condensendly as Cat got out of the car. “It isn’t work,
I’m paid under the table.” She headed inside.
“Catrina Anabella
Smyth, you’re late.” A woman, in her 40s with brunette locks walked out of the
back office. “Ma, I don’t work for you. Like you said, ‘I won’t hire you until
you tell me why you where arrested in the first place.’” Cat looked at her
mother and followed her into the shop. “Work the counter with Cregen for today.
I’ll pay you after the day is over.” “Like always.” Cat rolled her eyes and
pulled an apron on, moving behind the counter.
Cat looked up during
the afternoon at part of the building that was being worked on. “Cregen, what’s
going on?” She pointed and He looked over. “Your moms’ is having a sound-stage
put in. She’s going to have live entertainment in that part of the building
when this part is closed.” “Huh.” She moved with her bin to take the dirty
plates and mugs off the tables and brought them into the back to get
washed.
Cat dried her hands
off and headed back towards her mother’s office and knocked on the door. “Ma.”
Her mother jumped slightly and caught her breath. “Cat, get back to work. It’s
almost
“Yo! Can I get some
help out here!” Bosco banged on the counter of the CoffeeShop. “Bosco, they
heard you the first time.” Faith told him as she looked around. Cat’s mother
headed out to the counter. “Officers, how may I help you?” “Two coffee’s to
go.” Cat’s mom nodded and did as asked Cat wandered out of the office. Faith
looked up at her. “Ma, I’m heading home. Okay?” “Bosco, look.” “Huh?” Bosco
looked over at Cat who was headed for the door. “Okay, I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Her mother said. “8.75, please.” Faith gave the woman the money as Bosco went
outside, he was keeping an eye on Cat. “That your daughter, ma’am?” “Yes, she
is. Why?” “Nothing. Thanks. Have a good day.” Cat’s mother nodded as she put
the money in the register. Cat hailed a cab from the corner of the street and
climbed in. “Where to little lady?” “125th and West.” The cab sped off and Cat
dug through her purse for the money, paying the fare when she got out and
wandered into her mother’s house to take a shower and get changed.
She wandered into
her bedroom, she had two. One here and one at Breangwen’s place. Both were
basically the same so that way she didn’t fell not at home. Turning on her
computer, she spun around in the chair and waited as it booted up. Sifting
through her CDs, she pulled out a few and placed them gently inside her 36 CD
changer.
Storming through the party like my name was El ninio
When I'm hangin' out drinking in the back of an El
Camino
As a kid, I was a skid and no one knew me by name.
I trashed my own house party cause no body came.
I know I'm not the one you thought you knew back in
high school
Never going, never showing up when we had to.
attention that we crave don't tell us to behave,
I'm sick of always hearing act your age.
I don't want to waste my time
become another casualty of society.
I'll never fall in line
Become another victim of your conformity
And back down.
