<i>Being
a CIA agent isn't always the best and greatest job for a girl like
me.</i> A small voice says from her standing position in the shadows.
<i>People you care about...your family...and your friends...They can't be
told...unless briefed by other agents for you...</i> The figure shrugs
and walks backwards towards a desk and turns on the lamp. <i> My name is
Marlena Huffinton and I am a CIA agent for the federal government. For
years...growing up I lived in Port Charles...now? I live in a small countryside
that shall remain nameless throughout this tale...and here is why. I grew up my
whole life in Port Charles, even attended the police academy there. I was lucky
and fortunate enough to find myself waking up to receive a call from Washington
to come to the CIA's training facility.
I'll
give you a little history, growing up I became friends with Carly in
school...and I lived next door to the Quartermaine's. Now, if you know anything
about the 'males' in that family...you know the only sane one between Edward,
Alan, and AJ is Jason...even if he is Sonny's Hit Man...still...the more sane
and actually rather calm one of the male side for that family. And his baby
sister, Emily...no matter what her problems have been in the past and even
now...she needs someone she can lean on...and right now...it can't be
anyone...since she's about to break. I returned to Port Charles after my
training was over and was working on my first case...and before I could solve
and arrest the prime suspect...is when I had to leave. Why? Well this is
simple...I was about to arrest someone in Sonny's business for a large list of
crimes...and as an Agent...once your cover is blown...duck and cover. And Jason
was close to uncovering me being an Agent...so I made a call to my 'superiors'
in Washington on a Monday night and by Tuesday I was gone. That's how fast my
life changed and the only person to see me leave and get anything from me, was
Emily.
Emily
stopped by around 4 am before I was picked up and taken out of town. Standing
to this day...that was four winters ago and I've never gone back...no matter
how many times I've been asked by Emily to visit...that's all about to
change.</i>
Marlena
stood in her house, holding a glass and set it down on the coaster. "I
won't go back." She turned to her superiors who stood across from her. It
was a rainy day in New Jersey and they were sending her back to finish the case
now? <i>'Would you rather us wait until Mrs. Cassidine calls you and asks
you to visit? Care to do it that way?'</i> She narrowed her eyes,
"Leave...when she calls...I'll consider it." Her superior's left and
would return to Washington the next morning; she watched the rain fall and
twinged slightly. Emily called...just like she had predicted...it was always
the same...even worse now since Michael was 'presumed dead' ...Emily usually
begged her to return...to try and make it right in her world again. That caused
Marlena to groan and sigh...even more when she used the <i>If not for
me...then for Jason...</i>...and that's when she'd hang up. She usually
would call back...but today...or tonight I wasn't hanging up.
"Marlena?" "Yes Emily?" "Oh thank goodness."
Marlena chuckled and moved upstairs to sit in her study. "What's it this
time, Em? Need someone to play the 'white knight' and save somebody?"
Emily sighed, "Marlena...I know I've been pestering about you to
visit...but...please...we could all use you back now..." Marlena rubbed
her forehead. "How bad is it?" "What do you mean?"
"How bad is it that I would change it?" "We're all grieving in
the worst...especially..." "Don't...say Jason...I kind of figured
that already. Thank you." Emily blinked, "Something the matter?"
"No, just dreading coming back...I'm leaving in the morning..." Emily
was lost...very lost...she didn't know Marlena worked for the CIA and that
coming back could turn the fires to her again. After hanging up, I felt the
need to call her back and say I've changed my mind.
I spent
most of the night awake, grimacing at the fact that I was afraid to see them
all again...and from the numerous times that Emily has mentioned the fact that
"Jason and Sam..." was the highlight of my trip. I sneered and I wish
I knew why. I mean I suspect things...with the way I had left so quickly...had
gone to shambles between Jason and myself...not that it already wasn't falling
apart...it more than likely was going to shatter if I got any closer...or
vice-versa. My ride arrived around 7 am and the driver put my bags in the
trunk. I was dressed in all black...like I was attending a funeral...a funeral
that was being suddenly uprooted...my own. My life connected with Port Charles
had been dead since the day I left. I was staying in a hotel, because I had to
remain unfindable to everyone. The car rental company dropped off a vehicle for
me, and I was going to hide myself in the hotel for a while. I didn't sleep so
I was going to crash right now if I didn't...I did crash...and woke
up...however to the manager knocking at my door. "What?!" I yelled as
I walked towards the door. "You got visitors! They're waiting in the
lobby!" 'Fuck'...I sigh and pull on some clothes and walk towards the
lobby, blinking as I see Emily and Carly standing before me. "Hey
Marlena." "Hey Carly, Emily...how'd you two find out I was
here?" "Emily came to see me...and told me you were coming to
town..." I blinked. "Quiiick question." "What?"
"Jason doesn't know...does he?" "Would it matter if I did?"
My ears dropped at the sound of his voice. "Not really." I didn't turn
around to face him, I just glared at Emily who mouthed 'I'm sorry...Carly
called him...I tried to stop her.' My mind was working as I heard him walk
closer. "When'd you get in town, Marlena?" "Few hours
ago..." I hesitated my full answer. "You look tired."
"That's nothing new."
<i>Great,
argument coming my way. CHANGE Subjects.</i> My brain screams at me, I
mentally twinge. "Ahem, moving along." I drag my gaze back to Carly.
"How're you?" Carly shrugged. "Dealing...as best as I can...I'm
just happy to see you." I chuckle softly; I feel that Jason believes I'm ignoring
him being there. I see Emily watch him leave, my jaw twinges as she follows
him. "What's that about?" Carly asks me. I shrug. "No clue. Tell
Emily thanks for coming...but I wanna go back to bed..." Carly nodded.
"Wanna meet me for lunch at Kelly's tomorrow?" "Sure, what
time?" "12:30?" "Yeah, whatever." I hug her and return
to my room. "Emily, Marlena wanted me to tell you thanks for coming...she
looked really tired and went back to bed." Emily nodded. "I'm meeting
her for lunch tomorrow at Kelly's...wanna join us?" "Sure...uh...what
time?" "12:30." "Okay." I watch them from my window,
sitting in the dark and silent as I watch them leave Jason and he looks back
towards the windows and can't see me watching. I draw the curtains when his
gaze is away. Returning to the hotel bed...I curl up and somehow wish I could
make myself run over to him...but that is in the past...I did that a lot
growing up. I'm nowhere near that person anymore...and I don't think she's
coming back.

Chapter Two.</center>
Marlena
woke up early the next morning and sat in bed until around 10:45 am and got
ready, then drove herself into town and parked in a commuter parking lot and
walked towards Kelly's. Carly and Emily were there, waiting for her. After lunch,
Emily got up to excuse herself and went outside for a bit. Carly let Marlena
hold Morgan and watched her as she smiled. "Emily..." Emily perked as
she heard her name called before heading back inside. "Jason...hey. What's
the matter?" She turned and walked towards her brother. "I hate...to
have to ask you to do this for me..." Emily blinked as he spoke.
"What? What is it?" Marlena handed Morgan back to Carly, smiling
gently. "He's so adorable. I'm so sorry about Michael though...he was so
sweet." Carly smiled and set Morgan back in his high chair. "He
was...he was the sweetest little boy." I smiled and nodded in agreement,
"He was...and memories are very important right now...every single one of
them..." I pause because something in the mood has changed. "What's
taking Emily so long?" I turn to Carly who shrugs and goes to use the
bathroom. Emily returned from being outside for nearly twenty minutes, Marlena
could smell the scent Jason carried around him. "What kept you, Em?"
I stand up and pull my coat on as Carly returns. "Nothing." I raise a
brow at her answer and just nod my head. "Carly, tell Sonny I say
Hello...just...don't let him know you saw me." Carly nodded and hugged me
as I left. I watched Emily as I left to return to the car. Carly turned to
Emily, eyeing the piece of paper in her hand. "What's that?" Emily
looked at the paper and sighed, "Jase wanted me to give it to her...I...I
couldn't Carly..." Carly blinked, "Then drive back to the hotel and
slip it under her door."
Emily
nodded and followed Carly out, returning to the hospital until the end of her
shift. She did what Carly had advised, slipped the note under Marlena's room
door after asking the manager which room it was. I wasn't back yet...I had gone
to the park and was sitting in the dark alone...I had been since after lunch
and only left to get dinner. I was mindlessly humming a song that generally
brought me to tears...but I let the tears come. Too much emotion was attached
to being back here, I sighed as I stood up. I walked in silence back towards
the car and drove back to the hotel and went to my room. The note made me trip
as I removed my coat and picked it up. "Hmm." My brows furrowed
together as I shut the door and turned on the TV and sat on the bed to carefully
open it. My lungs felt the loss of air as I watched the pictures fall out.
"..Jason.." I picked up the pictures and set them down behind me, I
yanked the note out and read it slowly and carefully. I set the note down and
do what it had asked of me...but that was four hours from now...so I set the
alarm on the clock in the room and showered. I changed my clothes and sat on
the bed...waiting made me scared...so I did what I usually do...I was checking
the reports on the CIA information page...using my agent name and badge number.
Turning the laptop off, I placed it back in the closet and laid back against
the pillows...I was too tired to try and do anything else. I thought I had just
closed my eyes when I heard the knocking on the door. Groaning, I got up and
answered the door. "Can I come in?" I rubbed my eyes and stepped back
from the door. "Sure Jason." I was struck with reality...I
<i>never</i> call him Jason...or never did...Jason stops in his
tracks as he hears me call him that, he looks at me puzzled. I just shrug my
shoulders and sat down on the table...I hate chairs and don't use them unless I
need to.
"You've...never
called me that." Jason says to me as he removes his jacket and I'm not
paying any mind, he's done that before...but this feels too strange...like
we're hiding from everyone. "Time passes by...it happens..." I shrug
and that was the only thing I could come up with on short notice. I suddenly
shift since he's now sitting across from me...on the bed...my eyes divert to
the floor...I can't look at him and I can't figure out why...the last time this
happened...was when I used to have a thing for him...<i>used
to</i>..what was it back again!? "You all right there?"
"Hmm? Yeah, just fine." He's watching me carefully...I'm not giving
off the most readable expression...trying to remain numb...and not letting
anything control me. Jason raised an eyebrow at me and my behavior and then
yanked me on the bed. I made the almost usual <i>*THUD*</i>
sound...followed by <i>"OOF!"</i> I slowly sit up and grumble...then
stop because something is off here...the air in the room is stranger than
normal. Why is that? <i>Brace for impact!</i> My mind yells to
me...as if I'm in Star Trek. "Somehow...in my mind..." I sit up fully
after rolling onto my back. "...The table felt farther from the
bed..." Jason blinks as I say that, "How far...did you think it
was?" "About 120 yards...means I saw...the room...like as if I had
zoomed out with a panoramic camera." "That's hard to imagine."
"Not really...I could stage it." "You could?" "Yeah,
hang on." I slide off the bed and move towards the closet and pull out my
camera and grab the small tripod I bring with it. "See...this
will...help." I set the camera on the tripod and zoomed out fully...after
focusing on the bed. "Have a look...helps to imagine that I'm sitting
where the camera is and you're still on the bed." I step back and lean
against the wall and tilt my head as I watch him. "See what I mean?"
"Not...quite." I blink and stand up fully. "How's that..?"
"Kind of hard to picture it without someone in the picture." I blink
again and tilt my head, "Hmmm. That could easily be fixed." I hop on
the bed and my hair flies around my face. "This work?"
"Yeah...except you're not facing the camera." I mentally kick myself
and shift to sip up, running a hand through my hair. "Better?"
"yeah." I squeak suddenly when he takes my picture.
"Tricky...tricky..tricky..!" Jason grins at me; I sneer lightly and
move to stand up. "Question." "What?" "Does this have
a timer?" I see why he's asking that...I hope I'm right. "Yeah, it
does...why?" I watch him carefully and turn away as he walks in front of
me. Yup, devil of it...I'm still wanting him.
"Could
you tell me where...?" I mentally whack myself and get up, sneaking past
him and pointing. "Here." "Thank you." Jason moved her hand
and set the timer, yanking me back on the bed to sit beside him. My eyes lilted
some as I bit my lip, looking down when the camera flashed to take the picture.
<i>Still like him? Poor baby.</i> My brain spoke to me as I got up
to put the camera back in the closet. "Sneaky lil git..." I mutter as
I return to sitting on the table, with my legs crossed. "Ahem...so..in the
note...it said you had something to <i>ask</i> me..." I watch
him, shifting about so I can lean on the window's edge behind me.
"Yeah...I'm not sure if I should say it." I blinked at him and tilted
my head. "Maybe you should take a walk around the hotel to try and clear
your mind?" I watched as he got up to do as I recommended, I blinked...the
last time he ever listened to me...was when I still lived here. I shrug and
moved to turn the TV to face where I was sitting and watched it for quite
sometime until he came back and muted it before I could. "Mind
clear?" "Yeah." "Okay then." I chuckle and sit back.
"So?" "Come for a walk with me?" I blink and then shrug and
follow him out of the room. We end up just sitting on the edge of the
road...which is empty now since it's rather late. We're sitting in silence...I
recall how many times we did this back when we were growing up.
"Jase?" "Yeah?" "Ever miss it?" "Miss
what?" I give him a look and he shrugs. "If you could tell me why you
had left...I guess I'd say no..but my answer is yes." I blink at him. "I
left...because something had endangered my life...so I needed to go or be
killed." Jason looked at her and somehow she could see the worry in his
eyes. "But...I'm somehow no longer worried about that...I've been gone to
long for it to happen." We returned to sitting in silence...before his cellphone
rang and it was Sam. He left after I returned to my hotel room and I can't
shake the feeling that something is controlling me. I'm arresting that suspect
tomorrow...and my superior's are then letting me stay in Port Charles for a
while longer. I sat down on the bed, getting my things together and humming a
song to myself. The song? <i>Westlife's "Can't Lose What You Never
Had"</i>. The night seems to fly by and dawn springs on me as I
shower and dress, the P.C.P.D comes with me as I make the arrest and they take
him to prison.
I return
to my hotel room and pack my bag and set it in inside the closet and leave to
return to New Jersey for a brief meeting. I returned my badge and gun to my
home so that I don't feel so much...danger. When I get back to the hotel...the
manager gives me some message and I make a face as I read who they are from.
Emily has invited me to stay with her and Lucky at Wyndhmere. I rub the
underside of my chin and call her to let her know I'll be there in a while. I
return my bags to the trunk and pay the manager for the few nights I stayed. Emily
met me outside of Wyndhmere when I arrived and walked with me inside. She
introduced me to Lucky and I spent some time with him while Emily was having a
room made up for me. After dinner I went with Emily to the room she had me
staying in and moved to sit in the darkness on the balcony across from it. I
had headphones on...so if anyone came to speak with me...I couldn't hear them.
I head back inside when I hear a car door close and look down to see Emily
greet Jason. "Shit." I duck back inside before anyone can see me and
shut the door to my room. I pace for a bit before going downstairs and sitting
in the living room, laying back on the couch with a book I had brought back
with me. "She should be in her room...I'll let her know..." "Who
should be where, Emily?" I raise a brow as she walks in with the other two
and set my book down on the coffee table as I sit up. "Oh...um...Jase is
here to see you." "I can see that...and I don't bite...so he can
sit." I sit back against the couch. Emily leaves to go check on Lucky and
I raise a brow, tilting my head at Jason. "You can sit...or have you
forgotten how?" "Not really." I watched as he sat down rather
close to me, I perked when he whispered something in my ear...and I was not
about to repeat it. I blink and shake my head, "You...wouldn't wanna take
that risk Jason...she might get suspicious." "Just...for me?" I
blink. "That's a rather open-ended question..." He looks at me and sighs.
"Get back to me on it then..." He stands up to leave and I slide and
stop him. "Hang on." He blinks as I have a hold of his arm, he's
looking at me. <i>This isn't part of your job as an agent! Bail
out!</i> My brain screams at me as I disobey and cut off the
transmission. "What?" He keeps his eyes on me the entire time and
ack...I can't believe I just did that...I kissed him for FIVE seconds and made
a run for it. And locked myself in my room. "I'm dead." Is the last
thing I say before I scurry under the covers and hide.

Chapter Three.</center>
I locked
myself in my room for days after that...watching crime flicks like 'Se7en' and
'Ocean's 11'. Lucky kept me company when I watched them, since we were keeping
each other company while Emily was off at work. "Lucky, can I tell you
something?...and you cannot repeat this to Em..." Lucky blinks and looks
at me, "What the hell did you do?" I wince and hold my side, as an
involuntary reflex of being skinned by a bullet once. "Telling you this
will either get me skinned alive or just everyone hating me..." "What
did you do!" I eep softly and rub the back of my back, "I kissed
Jason..." "You kisse-- Why did you kiss him?" "Did...Emily
ever tell you how we met? I mean me and her." Lucky nods, I nod.
"Okay, so I was friends with Carly when she first met Jason...I have a
ghost that haunted me while I was around him...and when I left town...so did
the ghost." Lucky looks at me as I move to change the movie. "Does
the ghost have a name?" "Oh yeah." I rest my hand over my chest
where my heart is. "And it came back the second I set foot in town."
Lucky blinked, "It's that bad?" "Are you kidding me!? I kept
myself locked in my room most of my life because I lived next to the
Quatermaines." "You did?" "Yup, Emily and Carly had a hell
of a time trying to get me out..." He tilted his head as I sifted through
the DVDs and put 'S.W.A.T' in. "Well...minus twice...one day I went
outside to get the mail...and forgot why I never left the house after school..."
"And the other time?" "Emily had <i>conned</i> her
family to throwing me a birthday party...that was...okay you know how when
people get angry at someone for a really shitty reason?" "Yeah?"
"Try that and ten-fold it...I threw the water thing right against the
wall..." "Holy shit..." "Yeah, talk about showing my
temper...I walked right out the door and no one tried stopping me. My parents
were kind of shocked when Monica called and told them what had happened...and
she didn't blame me..." "What did they say?" "My father
asked me why I did it and I told them the truth...although it wasn't until the
next day that I realized they had TOLD everyone why I had done that...I was
thankful to hear that Jason wasn't there..." "How'd you find that
out?" "Emily came over and told me. There was a third mistake but I
tend to hate to recall this one...and if you wanna hear it...ask Em...I swore
I'd never repeat it." Lucky nodded as the maid came up to tell us dinner
was ready.
I wander
downstairs with him and eat very little. "Not feeling well?"
"No...not really..." I sigh and sit back in my chair. "I'm
heading back upstairs. See ya later Lucky." As I left, Emily came in.
"Hey Em, I need to ask you a question." "What is it Lucky?"
"Marlena was telling me something’s...and she said there was a third
mistake that she had happen..." Emily bit her lip, "Let's go into the
living room." "Okay." Lucky followed Emily into the living room
and sat down. "It was during the summer and I was over her house for most
of the afternoon. Her parents weren't home so we were in her backyard tanning
and Jason had come over to bring me home...and I'm pretty sure by now it's
clear that she has a thing for him...well...he had come over with a shirt on
and she 'pretended' to lock herself in the small shed they had in the
yard...and she came out after we had left...she called me later and told me
what had happened." "Whoa." "Yeah...and Jason said she
seemed really distant when she came back...she still seems that way..."
Lucky nodded. "She said the ghost that haunts her while she's around
him...is back...and when I asked her what the ghost was...she pointed to her
heart." Emily gasped, "I didn't know it was that bad...or that
serious..." Lucky nodded, Emily's attention turned to the butler.
"Yes?" "There's a Mr. Morgan here to see Miss Huffinton."
"Thank you...show him in..." Emily smiled and looked at Lucky.
"I better go get her." Emily stood up, Lucky looked at her.
"Take your time...I think she's a little nervous around him now."
Emily nodded and left to go upstairs towards the room I was staying in. Jason
walked into the living room. "Hey Jase." "Hey Lucky."
"Jason, something the matter?" Lucky raised a brow...Jason looked at
little on the 'lost' side. "I just...feel as if I'm being in two
directions...one by Sam and one now by Marlena..." Lucky blinked,
"Maybe you should just try and be honest with one of them now and the
other when you get home?" Jason shrugged. "I hope that works."
Emily returned to the living room, "She doesn't feel like coming
down...but says you can go on up Jase." "Thanks." Jason left the
living room to head upstairs; I was settled on the bed with a pillow in my lap
as I watched Brom Stoker's 'Dracula'. I usually have the lights off when I
watch this movie, since it's one of those that makes even more sense to watch
in complete darkness. I left my room door open and was just on the part where
Mina and Lucy are running around in the rain when Jason walks in the room.
"Hey."
I say as I quickly look up at him and return my staring gaze to my laptop
screen. "Mind if I shut this?" Jason asks as he steps in the room, I
shake my head 'no' and he shuts the door. "What's on your mind?" I
raise a brow, not that he can see me do it...it's dark unless you count the
light from the screen. "We need to talk.." "Is this a talk where
I listen <i>until</i> you're done?...or I just listen and get back
to you later on it?" I watch as he sits on the bed next to me. "The
kind where you listen until I am done." <i>I hate those.</i> I
mutter in my mind and mute the movie for now. "I'm listening..."
"After...I left yesterday...my mind...everything felt like it
was...splitting in two...between you and Sam..." I watch as he sighed and
I could feel the sense to run and hurt myself...in a way I only think of if so
angry or upset. <i>Throw a vase.</i> "I love Sam...I know I do...and
she loves me...but..." I just blink as he looks directly at me...in a way
that makes me feel so uneasy....that I turn away. Jason lifts his hand to turn
my face to look back at him. "I can't help thinking that there's something
I've been missing...Is there something I am missing?" I blink at him.
"I can't say anything unless you're done...are...you done?" Jason
sighs and runs his hands over his face, "No...I'm not... but I just want
to know if there's something that I need to know and understand here..."
He gives me that look that says <i>'I'm finished'</i>. I sigh
heavily, "I'm assuming here that you want the truth...on...a whole lot of
things." I rub the back of my neck and keep my eyes on the pillow.
"Yes, you possibly are missing something...and there maybe something you
need to understand...but if you want anymore than that...I suggest you talk to
Emily or Lucky about it..." "I'd rather you tell me." I frowned
some and just nodded. "Do...you remember that party Emily conned your
parents into having for me?" "Yeah...I do...I heard you threw the
water jar." "Yes, I did..." "Well...okay...lemme
explain...when my mom first introduced me to your family...I had a ghost."
"A ghost?" "Just...listen." "And it would follow me
everytime I saw you or whatever..." "Did it have a name?"
"Yes...and it left when I left town..." "What's the ghost's
name?" "My heart." Jason blinked, "You mean...you've had
feelings for me...since we first met?" "Imagine that." "Why
didn't you tell me?" "Ahem, Jason I'm not the most...open person
about how I think or feel for...er...about anything."
"So...what
should we do about this?" I raise a brow as he asks me that. "Do
yourself a favor...go over in your mind...the pros and cons of what we know
now...and I'm telling you...do not break Sam's heart..." Jason blinks at
me. "Just...listen. It wouldn't do you <b>any</b> good if you
hurt her..just because of me. It's just...not a good idea...unless we're both
sure we want it to go..anywhere else...but it more than likely won't."
"Why not?" "Jase..." I chuckle. "I live in New
Jersey...what you gonna come see me every weekend or something?" Jason
smirked at me and kissed me on my forehead. "We'll see...I'll weasel your
address out of Emily." I eyed him. "That's a smart move."
"When are you leaving?" "Twelve days." Jason smiled and
pulled me into a deep kiss and then left. "I'll see you tomorrow." I
blinked as he left and squeaked lightly and returned to my movie.

Chapter Four.</center>
Jason
returned to the penthouse, Sam walked over to him. "Hey. Um...Sonny called
while you were gone. He needs to see you." "Did he say what it was
about?" Sam shook her head 'no', Jason nodded. "All right. I'll be
back." Jason left again to head over to Sonny's. "Jason's here, Mr.
Corthinos." "Send him in, Max. Thanks." "Sam said you
called, what's going on?" Jason walked in as Max shut the door behind him.
"I have your next job...uh; it's the file on the desk." Jason moved
over and opened the file. A look of shock on his face as he saw a copy of
Marlena's CIA Badge with her on it. "Her?" "Yeah she's uh...a
threat to our business Jason." Jason nodded and closed the folder.
"I'll handle it." "Good. Good." Jason moved to leave and on
his way back to the penthouse, when he got back...he wrote something down.
"Sam?" "Yeah Jase?" Sam walked out of the kitchen and Jason
handed her the note with Marlena's name on it. "I need you to deliver that
to Wyndhmere for me." Sam blinked and looked at him, "What's this
about?" "Business." Sam nodded and went to deliver the note to Wyndhmere;
Emily thanked her and took the note to Marlena. Back at the penthouse, Jason
sat on the stairs that went upstairs and ran his hands over his face.
<i>No wonder why she left so suddenly...the agent I was about to
expose...was her...and now she's endanger again...</i> Emily slipped the
note under Marlena's door and went to go to bed. Sam returned to the penthouse
and sat down beside Jason. "You okay?" "Yeah...just...the person
Sonny wants me to take out...is a close friend." Sam frowned and pulled
him into a hug. I picked up the note and opened it, my jaw dropped as I read
it. I picked up my cellphone and called my superiors. I was endanger. They sent
someone out to stand in for me and I was put in a safe house. I locked myself
in the room I was kept in. "...Jason..." I hit my hand against the
wall as tears stung my eyes. They'd let him take the life of the woman who was
'supposed' to be me...I knew they would...just to fool Sonny...I was too good
of an agent for them to let me be killed. Emily had gotten a hold of the note
the next morning...after 'me' had never come back from going out. So she now
assumed Jason had taken me out and was angry. She showed Lucky the note and he
didn't know what to tell her, he held her close.
Jason
knew it wasn't the REAL me he had killed...and removed the heart from the
woman's body to bring it back to show Sonny that I was 'gone'. They men who
were 'supposed' to be watching me...had fallen asleep and I left in the middle
of the night. "Sonny." Jason said as he handed the box to his boss.
"I did it." "This proof?" Jason nodded as Sonny opened the
box and saw the still warm heart laying there in a small pool of blood. I was
walking through the park; my superiors would run a fake ad in the paper about
me being killed. I sat on a bench in remote silence as people walked by without
saying a word to me. I stayed in the park all night and curled to a tree that
was far away from any path before day break. Jason had returned to the
penthouse, Sam was there...waiting for him. "So?" Jason looked at her
and just moved to go upstairs. Sam blinked and followed him up the stairs.
"Jase? Are you okay?" Jason shook his head. "I...faked taking
the person out...to keep Sonny from making me do it..." Sam tilted her
head to the side. "Aren't you worried that he'll find out?" Jason
shrugged, "I'm not sure if I should be..." He moved to leave and go
for a walk. Marlena had fallen asleep in the spot she had sat in. Silent as she
heard Emily coming and ducked behind something to watch. Emily would run into
Jason. "Jason...how could you!" "Emily..I didn't really..."
I stood up from where he was. "He killed my stand-in." They both
turned to me. "It was better if he did...my superiors..." I walked
out from behind the bush. "Would not risk me getting whacked." Jason
looks at me...as does Emily and I squeak as she hugs me. "Don't...let
anyone know...okay?" I eye Emily and she nods as she walks off. "Where'd
you go?" "Safe house." "Then why..?" "I
escaped." "Why?" "I'm not an animal, so they can't cage me
up...that and the guards fell asleep." Jason watched me I as just stood
there, out of harm's way for the moment. I was about to say something when he
dragged me off towards a remotely empty area in the park. I blinked,
"Jason?...if you're...thinking what I think you are...won't we get in
<b>TROUBLE</b> for it!?" "Right now.." Jason yanked
me towards a tree and kissed me rather deeply. "I near had to lose
you...that's never happening."
In a
rather matter of seconds, Jason had me against a tree. I winced some at the
impact of my back touching the tree's neck very hard. Jason had his body full
pressed against mine, as I was too tired from the lack of 'good' sleep the
night before. His hands roam over my...at the moment...clothed body and stopped
at the hem of my shirt to slide under it. His hands are freezing as he touch’s
my skin and I close my eyes and shiver some. "I promise...I won't hurt
you." He whispers against my neck and bites it lightly. I wince some and
moan as his hands caress my chest through my bra. As his hands move south to
undo my pants, I can't help but worry if we will be caught. I dare not say
anything because I won't deny it...I want this. I can feel them unzip and be
pulled down as he...ahem...mounts me. What I don't see is that Sam has stumbled
upon us and is hiding behind some bushes. As Jason moves within me, I can't
help but wince & moan...you'd never know but being fucked against a tree
<b>HURTS LIKE A BITCH IN HEAT</b>. Of course, collapsing is allowed
once we've reached climaxed....I fell onto him and slowly caught my breath.
Wincing as I curled to him, my face buried in his arms as he holds me close.
Sam had left to return to the penthouse; Jason walked me back to Wyndhmere and
then went back to the penthouse, not knowing Sam had caught us. I sunk myself
in the tub and curled under the bubbles of the bath, I was listening to
Westlife's <i>What I Want Is What I've Got</i>. When Jason entered
the penthouse, Sam was sitting on the couch. "Jase..." "Yeah
Sam?" "...In the park?!..." Jason snapped to attention.
"You...saw us?" "A-duh!" Sam walked over and slapped him,
then moved to leave. "..Bastard!" She said as she left, Jason put his
hand on his face, where she slapped him. I returned to the bed after my bath
and curled under the covers and laid back...still in slight pain. Jason went
and put some ice on the slap mark, as it stung and took some painkillers for
it. Sam went to rat Jason out to Sonny. Sonny was PISSED when he found out;
he'd take care of it himself...after he spoke to Jason. Sadly...Carly had
overheard...and was coming to warn me...but went to warn Jason first. I was
asleep when this was happening.

Chapter Five.</center>
I woke
up to the sound of loud knocking at my bedroom door, I climbed out of the bed
and walked towards the door and opened it. I blinked as I saw Carly standing
there. "Carly? What's...what time is it?" "Quarter of
three...am..." I rub my eyes and sigh. "What's the matter?"
"Sonny found out that you're not dead...Sam came by and told him that
Jason didn't pull the job." My jaw dropped, "I'm dead...give me a few
minutes, okay?" "Okay." Carly nodded and waited in the hallway
as I picked up my cellphone and called the safe house, my superiors weren't
very happy with me...but listened. "Send me Lycan." I said to them
and they did as I asked. Lycan wasn't a gun...Lycan was a large man...who would
stop Sonny if he tried to take me out. In thirty minutes, Lycan was at
Wyndhmere and left with me to go out. "Is Jason all right?" I asked
Carly as we walked. "Sam was pretty mad..." "And I care?...I
know I should but I won't." Carly looked at me, "I wouldn't think it
anything else from you." I smirk, "Thanks for the vote of..." My
words get caught off as I see Lycan signal us to get down behind something.
"Crap." I watch as Sonny comes into view...Lycan and him began to
have words. "Turn away Carly." Carly looks at me and I just give her
a stern look as she does what I said...I turned away somewhat from the
situation and closed my eyes. Lycan comes to retrieve us from our hiding spot,
"Mr. Corinthos will no longer be a threat Agent Huffinton."
"Agent?" Carly looks at me, I ignore her gaze for now. "Thanks
Lycan." Lycan leaves us and I turn to Carly. "That's right,
<i>Special Agent Marlena Huffinton</i> of the Central Intelligence
Agency in Washington, D.C." Carly blinked, "Wouldn't that make it
difficult...if you were with Jason?" "Eh? Um...no...because I am
allowed leniency...for whomever I date...they can't use it against me."
"Really?" "By-laws, section 4.5." Carly blinked at me, I
smiled. "Just can't tell anyone you know...well...Jason, Sonny, and Emily
already know. But that's it." "How dangerous is it?"
"Eh...well...dangerous enough that details...you don't usually tell."
"Is that a good thing or a bad thing?" "Depends on the case and
depends on the agent...know where I'm going with this?" Carly nods,
"Can I ask you something?" I blink, "Depends on the
questions." "Have you ever had...to tell..." I hold my index
finger up, "One time...there was a case...a year ago...and I wasn't
working it...but the agents who were...were close friends...they had received
word that the youngest child had been killed...and the bureau didn't know how
to tell the parents that their baby was dead...so...we held a funeral for the
baby...even paid for it...but the parents didn't find that good enough...and
they wanted the two agents fired..." "Were they?"
"Yes...only to be re-instated this year." "Are you
serious?" "Yeah, but to desks...they don't work the field..."
I moved
to walk away from her, heading down a path through the park. Carly frowned and
followed me, "Are you okay?" "Not really...I think I'm going to
call my superiors and have them place me on voluntary paid leave for a
while...which is about sixth months..." "Are you serious?"
"Yeah." "I should get back to Wyndhmere...and pack...please
don't tell Jason..." "He's going to ask...what am I supposed to
say?" I shrugged and continued to walk away, silent as I left the
park...running my hand through my hair as I returned to Wyndhmere. I packed my
things and set my bags on the bed and moved to leave quietly. Lucky was resting
in his room and Emily was at work, I left a note on my room door and took my
car that I had come back with....back to New Jersey. I returned to New Jersey
and called my superiors from the house, they gave me voluntary paid leave and I
unpacked my things. Around seven or eight is when my phone began to ring and I
looked at the caller ID. "..Fuck.." It was Carly and I picked it up,
"Hello?" "Marlena? Emily gave me your number...and she wanted me
to tell you..." "Tell me what?" My brows furrowed together as I
set my glass of soda down and sat on the sofa. "...She told Jason...and
he's coming out.." "Oh <b>THIS</b> will be good." I
sigh and sit back, my hand on my forehead. “I need to hang up now…” “Why?”
“Work calls.” I hang up and rub my temples as I move towards the loud stereo
system and pop in a CD. Over the system speakers played Gavin DeGraw’s “Just
Friends”. Moving up the stairs, I toss my jacket off onto the large bed and sit
in the recliner across from the window. Langley, which is one of the CIA bases
in Virginia, sends out a couple of men to help me move things around. “Thanks
guys.” I say as I escort them out and slump down against the front door.
Soon, my
cell begins to ring and I answer it. “Hello?” “Hey Marlena.” “Oh, hey Emily…”
“Something wrong?” “I’m not sure.” “Wanna talk about it?” “Uh…not really.”
Getting up, I move away from the door and wince as I hear tires halt to a
screech outside the house. I keep walking away…towards the backroom and shut
the door behind me. “I reconsider that.” “Why?” “Jason just arrived.” “How do
you know it’s him?” I cringe as the front door creaks open. “It’s him, Sam, or
Sonny….and either way…that could be very dangerous for me…” Kicking open a
large metal case, I bend down in front of it to remove a .44 from the case and
shut it. Stuffing the .44 into the back of my pants, I return to sitting down and
watch the door. “What are you going to do if it is Sam or Sonny?” “Well…if it’s
Sam…I have an emergency action button…” “What’s that?” “It contacts my
superiors in Washington and agents in the neighborhood come and take her
away….same goes for Sonny…” “Is that your only choice?” “Uh…well…no.” “You have
another?” “Well…it’s a bit more hazardous…” “…” “It’d be self-defense if they
attacked me…in a manner…” I groan as the door opens, “Never mind…I have to hang
up now.” Just by staring at the floor…I already know that it is Jason. “Okay,
well…call me tomorrow…all right?” “I will. Bye.” Hanging up, I lean back
against the bay window pillows. “Comfortable?” Jason asks while moving towards
the window, after shutting the door behind him of course. “In a sense…why?” I
shift to stuff the .44 under the pillows behind me. Adjusting his jacket, he
sits down across from me. “I was just asking.” “Sorry…about my…seemingly
<i>here and back again</i> attitude.” “It’s to be expected…” I
chuckle and shake my head. “How long are you staying?” “A week.” “Ah, well…it
would be best to either select the guest house…or guestroom…”
“You
have a guest house?” “Yes, I do…my grounds-keeper cleans it three times a
month…just incase.” “I think I’ll stay in the guest house.” “Good choice.”
Getting up, I lead him through the backyard towards the matching guest house.
“Here’s the keys…local market is 2 and ¾ miles from here incase you need
anything. Everything works…since…I get paid enough to pay all the
bills…anyway…your bag is still in the house so…” He looks at me…then
blinks…”What’s that button for?” “That? Well…due to advance knowledge and
such…the CIA built an awning that goes from here to the back door…when it
rains. It’s steel-framed, so it’s never coming down.” I smile and walk off, returning
with his bag and then going back inside to clean up for a while. That night it
began to rain, I watched from the dark shadows in my room as the awning sprung
up & out to connect to the back door of the main house. Moving away, I
climb into bed and sit back against the pillows. I don’t turn anything on…since
it’s a thunderstorm and I curl under the bedcovers, facing my door. He left to
go to the local market…it stays open late for tourists and such. I’m
half-asleep/half-awake when he returns, curling against one of the throw
pillows I try and fall back asleep…but something is very very wrong…and I wish
I knew what…

<i>
Hail to the light that my baby watches me
In
the darkness of the window
I can
hardly get to sleep
Wish
for the hour that
The
nighttime soon shall pass
And
the morning dew will bring us
To a
day our souls can last
Love
has a reason
There’s
a meaning to the world
We’re
giving love…</i>
Marlena
moved around her bedroom after changing into a pair of black jeans, green
tanktop, and boots. She was drying her hair when there was a knock on her door;
her hazel-brown eyes looked up and wrapped the towel around her still damp
hair. “Hang on a second…” Walking towards the door, I carefully open it and
chuckle. “Yes Jason?” “I need…your help with something. Can you come to the
guest house?” “Sure. Give me a minute?” “Yeah, I’ll be downstairs.” “’kay.” I
shut the door and go back to drying my hair, then walk down the stairs towards
the foyer. “Wha…?” I blink as I look around the area, nearly three dozen rose
petals…red, pink and white. “A-shee.” I mumble and follow them outside, walking
under the awning towards the guest house and blinked. “Jase…?” Slowly opening
the already ajar door and continue to follow the rose petals towards the
kitchen and blink. “I see a table set for two…dinner cooking…near
done…candles…what am I missing…?” “Me?” I blink at his voice and stumble as I
turn around, “…uh…” <i>Yes, that’s a yes!</i> “..debatable…” I
mumble for some reason. “Something wrong?” He walks…no no
no…correction!...<i>brushes by</i> me and I meep. Last time
I felt this nervous I had locked myself in a room until he was out of sight.
Great. “No, nothing. Why?” “Just asking.” He eyes me cautiously as I move
towards the large window and lean against it, that’s while he’s putting dinner
on the table. “Red or White?” “Depends on what you made. Fish is white, pasta
is red.” “How’d you know that?” I chuckled, “My grandmother was born in
Italy…Italians know these things.” “Dinner’s ready.” He says and pulls my chair
out for me.
Later
that week, I’m with a friend of mine in the nearby park. “So…what’s he like?”
“He? He who?” “Ahem, Marlena…you suck at lying. Ever since you came back from
Port Charles…you’ve been different.” “Ah, well…that can be explained Savannah.”
“Then talk!” “Right, remember how I told you who I grew up next to?” “Yes, the Quatermaines…why?”
I just raise a brow at her as we walk towards the center of the park. “Oh jeez,
it’s him?” Didn’t you tell me that he had someone?” “I did…and know I don’t
know where I’m stuck.” “Creepy.” “More like <i>complicated</i>
is the answer.” I move and sit against an empty bench, watching the children
play on the jungle gym. Savannah sits next to me and leans back, “Well…do you
have any idea what you’re gonna do?” “No, but there’s next to almost gone
history between us…” “You’re not thinking of sending him back…are you?” “Not
just that, Savannah…sending him back…to Sam…to the life he knows…” “Are you
mad!?” “Yes, I am…madly in love…but he’s got someone…and that’s dangerous…”
“Why?” “Because he’s a hit man.” “Shit.” “Yeah…so…I’m safer away from that if I
stay behind.” “It’s not up for discussion…is it?” I just eye her carefully and
shake my head. “Figured as much…how do you think he’ll take it?” “Oh bother…”
“I have a something to say…just listen okay, Marlena?” “Listening.” “All right,
if you where in terrible way…who would you go running to for help you?” I look
at her quickly. “Another thing as well…who’ll hold you when you cry? Because it
won’t be me…” I blink as she gets up. “I’ll see you later, Marlena.” “Bye
Savannah.” <i>She has a point…but what do I know!? I spent most of my
teenage years AVOIDING JASON.</i> I rub my temples as I get up and
move to leave, stopping short in my tracks as I see Emily, Sam, and Carly
coming my way. “Fuck…”
“There
she is.” Emily points towards me as they get closer. “Yeah.” Sam says as she
walks in between the two. “Emily, Sam, Carly…what are you three doing here? Or
should I say <i>What brings you three to New Jersey?</i>…whichever
comes first…” I raise a brow. “Jason left the penthouse and we can’t get a hold
of him.” “Huh…why come looking here?” “Sam had a feeling that he came to see
you.” “Strange, why would he do that?” I continue walking towards the gate as
the three follow me. “Why wouldn’t he?” “Good question Sam, answer that for me
Emily and/or Carly. Why would Jason come to see me of all people if his boss
wanted me dead and my supervisors had taken care of that? So please…! Enlighten
me! All of you!” I look at them all separately and continue walking. “..It’s
not that we don’t believe you –“ I put my hand up to silence Carly. “Three more
blocks and we will be where I live…house number 77…go into the back yard using
the gate on the left side of the house…there’s a guest house….find out for
yourselves…” I shook my head as they walked past me towards my house and I
followed; going straight into the main house then up the stairs. “…This is SUCH
a disaster!...” I groan and sit in my large black chair. In the backyard; Sam,
Carly, and Emily are approaching the guest house. “I’ll knock..” Sam says and
knocks on the door, Jason calls out. “Coming..!” Sam waits as Jason approaches
the door, I happen to be watching from my upstairs window with a cigarette in
my mouth. “..Ye—Sam, Carly, Emily….what are you three doing here?”
“We
could ask you the same question, Jason…” Sam says as her arms cross her chest
and I wince while moving away from the window. “I better go out for a while…” I
move towards the stairs and press a button on my way down to open the garage.
The rumbling makes the four all look towards the garage as a black Chevy
Avalanche pulls out and disappears down the road. I can only not try and imagine the
conversation they’re having as I am gone. I went to my friend Kaynnah’s house
for a while…she is Savannah’s twin sister. “Just hoping they’ll be gone by the
time you get back?” Kaynnah puts the tea mug in my hands and sits beside me,
sipping her’s. “Well, not just the girls on that...him as well.” I sip my tea
and lean back. Kaynnah blinks and looks to me, a stunned look on her face.
“Dare I ask why?” “Little thing called ‘<i>not wanting to live in the
past</i>…which is what is happening.” “Oh…” “Yeah… ‘Oh’ is right.” I
set my mug down and stand up to walk around the living room, just then Savannah
walks in. “Hey Marlena…what are you doing here…?” I fill her in on what has
happened and she pats me on the back.
“Oh
bubba…” Savannah says with a long sigh as she sits down across from me. “What
are you going to do?” “Good question…I have no idea.” I settle back against the
couch, arms outstretched over the back of it. Kaynnah then speaks up, “I’ll
drive over and see if they’re still around…at the same time make dinner for you
to go home to…If they still are…I’ll call you before I leave. Okay?” “Works for
me.” I toss Kaynnah the keys to my house and watch her leave. “Come on.”
Savannah leads me towards the parlor to relax in as we watch some TV. Before
you know it, Kaynnah has returned and I head back on home to eat dinner. A few
hours later, my phone rings as I am watching some MTV which I rarely ever do.
“Hello?” “Hey.” “Hey Emily, what time did you guys leave?” “Shortly after you
did…maybe like forty-five minutes after.” “What happened?” “Sam and Jason had a
fight…she left first and then Carly tried to get him to come back. He wouldn’t,
but after I spoke to him…he came home.” I sigh and lean back against my chair
as I listen. “This is not good. I think I should stay in New Jersey for a
while.” Emily sighs, “I’ll come and visit okay? Oh and good news! Sam and Jason
found Micheal…AJ had him…” She went on to explain what had happened…even the
thing with AJ’s death and all. “Dear Lord…that’s hell to put a nine year old
through…” I shake my head as I shut off the TV and move back into the kitchen.
After
hanging up with Emily, I head up the stairs to bed.
The End.
