Date of incident: November 2003 Time of incident: 5:00 A.M. Location: Baltimore County, MD Details: This report was sent in by a person using the online form. After I received his report, his friend, the person who had the encounter sent in a message of his own pertaining to what he encountered.
My friend and I were deer hunting on a farm that we rent. Both of us hunt from tree stands and are located within about 500 yards of each other. We carry Talkabout radios to keep in contact with each other. My son and myself reached our treestand and situated ourself while my friend continued onto his stand. This would have been about 5 A.M. and still dark. About half an hour later my friend radioed me that he was in his stand and that "something" was walking around his stand. My friend is a lifetime hunter and country boy and has logged countless hours in the woods. My friend sounded a little shaken so I was curious what could have an effect on him in such a way. I asked him to clarify what he meant by "something". He said that is sounded large and on two feet and was walking just outside of the range of his small flashlight in a circle around the stand. He sounded so shaken that I was going to get out of my stand to see what was going on but I had my 11 year old son with me and did not want to scare or endanger him. My friend continued to radio me and said that it was making noises and that he was getting seriously scared. He held his radio up for me to hear the noises it was making but I could not hear very well on the radio. He said that the creature was making a strange kind of bark/grunt noise and it sounded like it was clacking its teeth together. After some time the creature moved off before it became light enough to see. My friend is a very level headed man who was born and raised in the country. For something to scare him so much that he said the .44 cal. blackpowder pistol he was hunting with "wasn't enough to make him feel safe" and the obvious fear he experienced made me wonder what this thing was. I tried to convince my friend that perhaps it was a bear but he insisted that it sounded like it was on two feet aside from the fact that there are no bears within hundreds of miles of where we hunt in Maryland. I suggested a raccoon or possum but he said it sounded much larger than that. He described the sound of it walking around the woods around his stand like the sound a human would make going through the undergrowth.

I cannot explain the sound it made because it was unlike anything I had ever heard before. Some details of the story left out for one is that this thing circled my tree stand for 30 min. It never at anytime was scared off by anything I did including banging loudly on my tree stand with my buck knife and yelling out at it. I could tell it was on two feet and weighed alot it never got with in flashlite range but was within 25 yards. It stood 15 min right in front of me. At all times it was there and every 3 min. it let out a very loud growl which then turn into a real high pitch whinney and at times i could hear it slaping its teeth together.
