As part of our December Social Studies unit, students
learned about how people celebrate special events throughout
the United States and around the World. For the Festival of
Lights Program, second graders learned how people in Sweden
celebrate St. Lucia Day with special songs, foods, dances,
stories, and other special activities. For this KidPix slide show project, students talked
with their families to chose a celebration which was
important to their whole family. Back at school students
then completed a planning web which contained elements of a
celebration - foods, clothing, decorations, people present,
and so on. Using their planning webs, students used pencils,
crayons, and colored pencils to make storyboards with
graphics and text to plan their slides. Last, students used the many tools in Kid Pix
Studio DeLuxe, a children's drawing and painting
program, to illustrate their family celebrations. Below you
can see that all the planning and attention to detail
resulted in wonderfully done KidPix slides showing the many
ways students' families celebrate the days which are very
special to them.
