WILLIAM FARR was born Abt. 1857, and died Abt. 1881 in Australia. He married SARAH ANNE JONES 9 August 1877 in St Marks Gladwick, Oldham, Lancashire, UK, daughter of THOMAS JONES. She was born Abt. 1853 in Oldham, Lancashire, and died 23 January 1929 in Gladwick, Oldham, Lancashire, UK.

Notes: William Farr travelled to Australia in the 1880's with the intention of setting up a new and better home. After writing to his wife Ann and son Thomas, it was reported that he went into the bush with a team of oxen and disappeared. Ann waited a number of years before marrying again to HENRY SPEAK. Ann appears in the 1881 census with RICHARD & HARRIETT REEVES and her son Thomas at 12 Flowery Bank. What actually happened to William is a mystery to this day. Australia was a very inhospitable country in those days, and William could well have been bitten by a snake, mugged, fallen into a pothole and broken his leg or died from heat exhaustion. Or he could have taken up a new name and lived out the remainder of his life in obscurity. The NSW and Victoria Death indexes give no clues.
